"The cafe is located in the heart of Thirsk, near the World of James Herriot, in a cobbled market square. There is ample parking which is free after 1800 hrs. The restaurant had closed by the time we visited. However the chip and gravy supper take-away was really good. Chips were chunky and firm with light fluffy centers The beef gravy thick and gooey with a perfect stick to chip consistency, all served in a cardboard (eco friendly) box with lashings of salt and vinegar. Although a little on the expensive side (just) the quality was value for money. The other food items (fish, sausage etc) looked delicious. It should be noted that those with mobility issues may find access difficult due to the front steps."

This is one of our best three fish and chip shops. Probably the best out of the three. The others being in Pickering and Keswick.

We arrived too late for the cafe but had them sat outside in the car. Fish was really nice and tasty and the chips were chunky and well cooked. Lovely.

I went for the steak pie, it was of good quality, plenty of meat, no fat, nicely cooked chips and a pot of gravy on the side. I was lucky enough to get a window seat too, love vehicle watching on a busy high street, could have sat there hours.

Absolutely amazing food. It may be a fish and chip restaurant (also has a takeout) but they do sell other food and there are a couple of vegetarian options, worth noting that there isn't many of them though. I had the vegetable burger and it was quite nice but the lettuce was a little tasteless. Other than that, I loved coming here and the staff are very helpful and friendly. The chips are some of the best I've ever had and I've been to some of the most well known places for chips in the country (Trenchers Whitby etc).

Ordered 2 breakfasts (which according to the menu, is sausage, bacon, 2 fried eggs, mushrooms, black pudding and cooked tomato), we were asked if we wanted complimentary black pudding. Also ordered 1 tea 1 coffee to come with food. Drinks arrived shortly followed by breakfasts which were returned because tomatoes not cooked. 7 minutes later breakfasts arrived again with cold bacon. 3rd time lucky breakfasts arrived after 10 minutes everything is fine except no mushrooms which came within seconds. Unfortunately the drinks we ordered to come with food were long gone but we're taken off the bill.

"We arrived here for a 2 night stay for a wedding (Fri sat night). PROS: Lynsey the manageress she 100% makes it so fabulous. Lovely, welcoming, looked after us brilliantly. Due to some staff shortages, she was doing what seemed like 10 jobs at once! We ate on one of the nights food was delicious! Great service tasty food. Breakfast was also spot on set us up brilliantly for the day ahead on the Saturday! The Willow room which we stayed in was fab ideal size, lovely cosy too! The whole 2 night stay was extremely reasonably priced the place itself has a great feel about it like a big cosy house! CONS: If you like total darkness, take an eye mask for sleeping as the rooms can get really bright from the early hours. Also, depending on the room, it’s on quite a busy road so can be quite nosy it would be worth having earplugs if you like a quiet surrounding. Due to staffing, the bar doesn’t stay open that late, so be mindful of this, they will however put drinks in your room if you can’t make it back in time for the bar closing. Taxis there are no local taxis, so arranging transport to the wedding we were attending was a nightmare which we didn’t account for! Luckily after 6 different phone calls, we managed to get sorted. The only gripe I had was the confusion over the bill if you decide to charge things to your room, the bills aren’t itemised so it’s difficult to keep track of what has been charged. There was some confusion on checkout over what we should shouldn’t have been charged for, so definitely choose to pay for any extras outright to avoid any confusion or uncertainty before check out. Other than that, it was one of the nicest, most personal stays we’ve had out in a long long time. This was mainly down to the Manageress Lynsey who is fabulous at her job really does make it feel like home makes you feel super welcomed relaxed. Thank you lynsey for really making a stay a one to remember."
