"My husband and I discovered the exceptional food here after a long coastal walk one recent day. We inquired about having our extended family pre Christmas lunch, and the chef/manager offered to set up the adjacent crafts room as our own private dining room, and even decorated the table for the holiday. The family were delighted at the idea of a different experience an invigorating coastal walk followed by a private lunch. The chef offered a set price, 3 course lunch, with four offerings each of starter/mains/dessert. Each person thought each course they had was excellent. Main courses options were turkey ham, chicken stack, beef, or fish, served with several vegetable dishes family style. I selected a mixed melon starter with minted ginger sauce. Perfect. My poached salmon main course was served with yummy veloute sauce. The fresh fruit pavlovas and lemon cheesecake were popular desserts. The staff were cheerful and efficent, snd attentive. This cafe has outstanding value for money, the food could not be better, and the chef/manager and the staff work to make your visit here a memorable experience. Try it!"

Frequently stop by when walking the dog for a scone or a cooked breakfast. Always excellent. Just wish it was open from 8am to 6pm!

Hi, Please can you list your opening hours. We would like to come for breakfast on Friday but cant see what time you open. Your phone number doesn't ring out either so may be a fault. Thanks

We stopped into the Woodlands Cafe after mountainbiking around Crawfordsburn Country Park. The coffee is fabulous and the scones and tray bakes... amazing. Lovely friendly staff... We'll be back soon.

Since new owner prices have gone up dramatically and quality reduced. New staff exhibit poor customer service. Used to be an enjoyable place. Now very poor value for money. Significant room for improvement.

We had a delicious lunch today, 3 adults and two children. Every meal was a treat and all quite different. Tasty beautifully presented fresh. And then amazing buns to take home after the children swam in the sea.

Had lunch here, went for the burger and my wife had the roast beef, both were delicious and our empty plates at the end were proof of that. Staff were very friendly and attentive and the cafe was very clean. Will be back

This cafe could be a so great, it has the most amazing situation in the middle of a country park. But sadly the first lasting impression we got was of an outside area strewn with litter and napkins etc. I understand this may happen...

"enjoyed our evening in james st it was the best culinary experience of our trip! we had been happy to see this evening as we had a few hit-N-seals in the course of our trip to belfast. we were not disappointed and had the fabulous evening. we were quickly welcomed and sitting. the place is beautiful and spacious. revitalized and environment. the bar is great and would like to come back, only for drinks at the bar sometime. we ordered cocktails immediately. an Irish gin negroni and a traditional old fashion. my neger was absolutely excellent. I think the old fashion could have been done with real sugar cubes and not sugar syrup, but it wasn't too bad. we were quick to choose our wein. we chose a beautiful juicy red, the cline, the old vine zinfandel, 2019. to begin we had the ham hock terrine with piccalilli champ bread and some scallops with boar bell. the hanging-hock court was the best ham-hock I had. the homemade piccalilli was something else. really nice crispy and sharp sharp to help cut through the hammock and the champbrot was delicious crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. the scallops and black bells were disappointing, as they lacked no salt or genuine aroma or texture between them. we still ate it and shared the rest of my hammock. we both decided to go for the co. tyrone 270g fillet steak with sides of champ and truffle parmesan chips. red wine and pfeffer sauce. they were fantastic steaks. Actually, I didn't think I would finish mine, but I did. I have met the right choice with the jus and the truffle chips. they went so well together, the dryness of the parmesan and sweet, slightly greasy of the jus. the steaks were perfectly cooked. a medium and my medium rare. fantastic aroma on the grilled outside of the steak and beautiful texture when they pierce. we both agreed that the champ was the best champ we ever cost. it was hot, soft, so well aromatized with hot butter on the top of the copper serving pot melt. it was really the most incredible champ. I was too full of dessert. but my sample ordered the sticky toffee pudding sundae. the team was friendly enough to make me an espresso martini that was both decaf and not a sugar syrup. it was brilliant. we both managed to work our way, although a surprisingly light sticky toast desserts on Sunday. the team was fantastic. very friendly and chatting to us. the bar team did not stop, I had the pleasure of standing and watching them make a great selection of drinks and cocktails. the waiting staff were also very friendly when they check in with us at comfortable places to ensure that we were in order. we felt very well looked around. the service was very good, we didn't feel any hurry, it felt like such a free time in this restaurant. when we come back to belfast, we will be back in absolute terms and we will definitely recommend others. Thank you."

"I'm an American. I was invited to work at the queen’s university in a global conference. my airline has moved my baggage, so I stopped in the barking dog to use her wlan to check the status of my baggage and have a drink and a snack with my associate who has unusual allergies. the menu had nothing to call us, so we have decided to finish and move only our drinks./ at no point has anyone informed that it is illegal to have only drinks, and our server ran our review without mentioning any legal requirements. After I paid, someone who I suspect, the manager, came to the table and checked our reception. exactly what I thought was what they said before they cheated on me how it is illegal to buy drinks in a restaurant without eating. I apologised and explained that I had no warning. I offered to buy food retroactive and they refused. then they repeated that I was in a restaurant and not in a pub and that my activities were illegal. they denied my multiple attempts to apologise me while I explained that I am not out of the opposite. this experience was very confusing for me, because the night before me had drinks in a restaurant without food and it was no problem. in any case I was told that there is no such law and that the ordering of drinks without eating in a restaurant is very common. I've never been treated so badly in a customer service dynamic and I'm not sure why this happened. I feel targeted and totally mistreated for what does not seem to be a good reason. To finish it, it was my birthday. complete error in the name of what this person was. I will say the rest of the staff was very pleasant and accommodating."
