"We had a wonderful lunch at Zio Gigi. The staff was welcoming and attentive, and Gigi himself came out to great all the guests. I told him we had eaten at his restaurant 4 years ago and it remains top of our lists of favorite places to enjoy authentic Italian cuisine. Most of the patrons were locals, which made the meal even more enjoyable. For us, it's a must do in Florence. The servings are plentiful and the prices right. Lunch is now a fixed price at €12, and you choose a primo and a secondo course, plus a side. Our table of three picked 1) lasagna, Florentine rabbit and potatoes w/broccoli ; 2) Emmer salad, Florentine rabbit and peas Florentine style; and 3) pasta w/ Sicilian pesto and salmon steak with new potatoes. The secondo and sides were generous portions, and the primo plates were overflowing. Everything was top-notch, but we voted the lasagna our overall favorite. We only eat one meal-a-day when we travel, and this lunch easily held us the rest of the day. You will not go wrong here!"

Service was quick and attentive. It was very busy yet they were able to bring food and drinks on timely manner. Lentil soup was good and chicken leg with roasted potatoes... tasty! View menu

praticamente vicino alla cattedrale, accoglienza straordinaria, il proprietario di una simpatia più unica che rara e ciò che è più importante è la qualità del cibo! pappardelle al cinghiale e taglio di manzo e filetto straordinariamente oca e tenera! Ho ancora l'acqua in bocca!

Decided to have dinner after reading good reviews. We have been in Italy for two weeks and this was our first mistake. Menu offers risotto but dish is made with rice. And pretty sure the shrimp served with it were not fresh. But if you are looking for a budget meal, this is your place.

View menu

We were disappointed, especially after so many positive reviews. This is no gem, but very average restaurant. Don't order Spaghetti Alla Carbonara you will Get mashed eggs with pasta rather then the creamy sauce that the cook should create from the egg and cheese. The lady was trying really much to create nice and welcoming atmosphere, but it didn't compensate for the kitchen quality.

Normally when we travel we try a few different restaurants for the sake of variety. But when we had dinner at Zio Gigi we felt so at home that we knew this was the place we wanted to come back to again and again. Everything was so fresh, made with top quality ingredients and cooked lovingly in an authentic home style. Tucked away in a quiet side street although just a couple of minutes from the Duomo, Zio Gigi was obviously popular with local customers. The head waiter sang popular classic Italian songs while we tucked into a huge and succulent Florentine steak, ribollita, pici with polpettini, tagliata di manzo, rustic pizza, tomato and mozzarella caprese, Florentine tripe, tiramisu and spl...
