"Frankfurt is the capital of Ăppelwoi which is the local dialect for Apfelwein which means apple wine i.e. cider. The Frankfurt-style cider has undergone full fermentation so it is not sparkling and it is much stronger tasting than many French cidres or British ciders. It...is usually served from a large jug, the Bembel and drunk either neat or as a spritzer. Like many good things in life this is an acquired taste but it is delicious. Until not even all that long ago, every traditional Ăppelwoi place (particularly on the south bank of the river Main) would produce its own cider on the premises. Today the Buchscheer is the last one remaining. And while many of the other places buy in decent cider from makers all around the land of Hesse, no one can beat the Schoppe (a glass of synonymous with a drink at the Buchscheer. The place is run by the owners, the Theobald family. Food is traditional Frankfurt fare (needless to say you can get a pair of frankfurters there), service is efficient, and the atmosphere is very relaxed many generations sit together on the long tables which are typical for this type of restaurant. The location is not central, but a tram-line stop is very near. A large garden area is in front of the restaurant, it is very busy during the summer months. The covered part of the garden is also open during wintertime. A unique and authentic place, I love it."
