"My boyfriend and I stopped into this pub on our way back from a country walk. We bought some drinks and were having a nice relaxing chat at a table by the bar, when the landlord stormed out of the kitchen and started shouting at...us about the “mess” we had made at our table. He stormed off and then returned a few minutes later, shouting again and gesturing at our boots which he claimed were dirty, even though we had taken great pains to wipe them clean before we entered the pub, shouting “would you treat your lounge like this?!” and shouting at us repeatedly and very loudly in front of a full pub. He completely lost it at us, and we felt really humiliated and taken aback. It was especially shocking because it came completely out of nowhere. The landlord made us feel totally unwelcome, and we would never consider coming back to the pub even though we live locally. A shame because the bar staff were friendly and accommodating, but their manager seems to have an anger problem. I’ve never written a trip advisor review before but this experience shocked me so much that I feel I need to warn people about this."

"Recently, my companions and I took a trip to Bath for the day. Well, maybe calling it a day trip is a bit of an exaggeration - we simply enjoyed some food, wandered around a few shops, grabbed a coffee, bought some cheese, and then headed back home. It was pretty much the usual routine for my so-called "day trips". The main reason for our visit to Bath was to try out Chris Staines's restaurant, Allium Brasserie. Staines previously worked at Foliage in the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, where he earned a Michelin star for seven years before Heston's Dinner took over. Foliage was fantastic, so it's no surprise that Allium is too. Staines has a knack for creating visually stunning dishes that blend classic techniques with unique ingredients. Plus, the lunch and early evening menus are priced reasonably. Situated in the Abbey Hotel in the heart of town, Allium's dining room has the potential to be quite charming."

"below is my original, 2 not so good review after having a few months ago a not so good experience, I received an apology a very nice gift from them! here today 29/11/15 to my daughter's birthday, all had on Sunday roasts of 1, the lasagne all very enjoyed! Actually it was one of the best Sunday dinners I had! service was wonderful will come back! many thanks: here has last number 28/7/15 brunette to start, more like mousse very bland! for the main had mixed grill small amount of meat that was cold complained. meat in the microshaft came bk with cold grain! fortunate it has for £9.99 in the offer, would not be able to pay £16.99 original price! cottage pie was made from very cheap mince, tasted like cured bark! children didn't eat it! other meals were in order, they think it's a bit hit with eating here! heard local say the cook could burn salat! the conversation of burning, the whole place was filled with smoke from the kitchen! we had to go to the other end of the pub, because we couldn't breathe! no windows open! overall, quite disappointed :"

"I recently discovered a fantastic restaurant in Bath. The service was top-notch and the food was absolutely delicious. Some standout dishes for me were the Summer Rolls, sticky pork ribs, and the amazing chicken curry. Be sure to make a reservation in advance as it can get quite busy. Overall, I give this place a perfect score for food, service, and atmosphere. Highly recommended dishes include the Chicken Curry, Beef Pho, and Prawn Summer Rolls. Price per person typically ranges from £30–40 for dinner."

"Can’t recommend this pub enough for anyone visiting Bath. We were staying in Broad Street Townhouse next door and had one evening meal to enjoy whilst we were up in Bath and we were so glad we chose it to be here. The atmosphere and decor is lovely with friendly staff who want to make sure you have a great experience. We visited on Monday 28th August and due to a busy weekend they were out of a few dishes but you know the food is fantastic at a place when you get your third choice of dish and it still blows you away. I had the whitebait starter and the vegan burger and my partner had the pork and calamari and everything was delicious. One of the nicest pub meals and vegan burgers I’ve had and would definitely come back here if I am in Bath again. We’d be going regularly if we could bring it back home."

"Our first time at the Royal hotel Bath. We were delighted to have booked the restaurant for our dinner. The choice, presentation and flavour served by friendly attentive staff was a great experience..we chose wisely. We both chose sirloin steak. It was cooked to our taste and was perfect. We also used same room and staff for our breakfast. The table of goods, the cooked English and the salmon and scrambled eggs all cooked individually were perfect in every way. "Only in Bath for one night, couldn’t decide where to eat but Eight drew us in by the smell, look, and menu. We had been shopping and were in casual clothes, it was 6:50pm and we mother and daughter) were greeted by Valentina who was incredibly welcoming. Hadn’t been before so Valentina explained normally as the dishes were small plates customers order 2 each, we weren’t that hungry but couldn’t decide between five ! we had 1 ravioli out of this world between us, then two fish dishes and as it was so delicious we ordered two more steak and Guinea fowl. Just perfection. Food, ambience, service, wine, concept loved it. Thank you so very much for helping us choose sensational plates of the finest cuisine. You all helped make our one night stay in Bath very memorable."

"Very disappointed that the previous excellent menu had changed so drastically. of the pasta/meat/fish and starters contained chilli and harissa in large amounts no subtle flavours there. The salmon and king prawn skewer was excellent but at was the last one. Everything...was served with tasteless French fries as no jacket potatoes were available. One starter was missed, despite the waitress double checking the order. The service was good, but the menu unimpressive. Will not be returning."

"I visit Meadgate Farm Shop and cafe whenever possible when I’m back home visiting family, and have only ever had great experiences. Staff are welcoming and friendly, food is fresh and delicious and the atmosphere is perfect for a relaxing afternoon. There’s a great range of lunch options and sweet treats the milkshakes are a personal favourite! "Yesterday, I treated my parents to lunch at this restaurant for the first time. The entrance was simple yet elegant, and we were seated promptly. The menu offered a great selection, including options for vegetarians. Both the appetizers and main dishes were delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. "Stayed for 3 nights so ate dinner in the main restaurant and afternoon tea the subsequent day and then in the lounge area on other days. The food is expensive, we had a main of chicken with vegetables which was £24, however the meal was faultless. The chicken was so moist and each flavour complimented each other. You could see the time and care that had been taken to cook and plate the meal. We also had the gnocchi as a starter which I would really really recommend £12). The deserts again were good, we had a chocolate pot which was a good portion with homemade honeycomb and fig tart. I was impressed that when we asked our waitress which dessert wine would complement the fig she could discuss the different wines and what they offered. Certainly recommend for dinner despite it being a little pricey due to the high quality and great flavour. The only thing to add would be the wait staff were spread quite thin so it wasn’t easy trying to get someone’s attention for drinks and the room was so big which was lovely but lacking a little in atmosphere. However we were eating on a Monday night. On a separate day we had afternoon tea, again lovely and really good value."

"There were two customers ahead of us when we arrived. It seemed to be a few minutes later we were leaving with our order. My wife had sweet and sour chicken Hong Kong style. The sample I had was exactly that, sweet with enough sour. The portion was generous and very tasty the onions great. I had the duck with oyster sauce. Very generous amount of very tasty duck the bamboo crisp, the sauce great. We shared the mushroom fried rice which was very tasty, the portion we had was too large for us sadly. We enjoyed our meal, as we always do, and will definitely be back"

"We decided to stop by this restaurant on a whim on Saturday, December 2nd, the last day of the Bath Christmas Market. It was a very cold night and we couldn't find a table anywhere else. There was a lovely 3-piece jazz band playing. We asked for a quiet table as one of our group is sensitive to noise and another has difficulty hearing. Initially, there were no quiet tables available as the restaurant was very busy. However, the staff were very accommodating and offered us quieter tables until we were seated in the 'Library', which was a beautiful and perfect spot for us. The serving staff were attentive and considerate, making our dining experience even better. We ordered steak, ribs, a truffle burger, and a vegetarian pasta dish, all of which were cooked perfectly. They also had some good Bath beers available. Overall, it was a great evening and dinner thanks to the Saturday evening staff. Thank you for your excellent service!"

"We were a table of two for dinner mid week. We were shown upstairs where there was already a couple but they were only drinking, we were the only people eating during our visit. We shared a starter which was okay and ordered beef and...ale pies for mains. The food looked good on arrival but the meat within the pie was not good. Lots of gristle which I couldn't eat but my husband made a valiant attempt. We did say that the meat was not good enough and were thanked for our remarks but no allowance was made on our bill for a disappointing meal. We were told they had recently changed butchers and that the pies were made by the pub. Why then did the chef not see that the meat was of such a poor quality? We are always told to complain at the time rather than put out a bad review but in this instant a review was definitely needed to warn others. We won't be back!!!!!"

"Day out in Bath today. Called in the Lamb and Lion for lunch (beef sub with fries and a pint) . Food was top rate, staff were polite, friendly and very helpful (they carried my drink out for me as I use a walking stick). "Stayed in Bath for a couple of nights over the weekend and came across this gem. Great bar staff and a wonderful selection of local beers and spirits. My favourite was the Spiced Rum with Hot Ginger Beer. My wife loved the vodka and light Tonic. The mixers were by approval of HRH Prince of Wales!! Food menu looked good but on this occasion we didn't partake. Another time. Give it a go as the atmosphere was really relaxing"

"We went into the Westgate pub for lunch and found it to be quite a lovely old pub in the centre of Bath. The food was reasonably priced and of good quality and quantity. We must give a shout to Sam the barman who put up with my jokes and also served excellent beer with good humour. Must go there again on our next visit to Bath."

"4 people, 2 had the lunch menu and 2 a la carte. The quality and quantity is the same making the lunch menu spectacular value if there's something on it for you. The quality of the cooking and attention to detail is Michelin Star level. The food is faultless and the flavours are wow! The tables and chairs are not the most comfortable, everything is a bit of a tight squeeze. None of us are fat, but both blokes were over 6ft, with 2 svelte chicks. The food is so good, I'd like a more comfortable chair and a slighter bigger table. I don't think they realise how good their food is. Decor is very nice though and the service is always very attentive and friendly. Went because we always love the food and were celebrating a big event so I ordered a £60 bottle of Bordeaux, which was truly abysmal unfortunately. It wasn't corked either. Fantastic food, great service, incredible value (food)."

"It was a Monday morning before 10am. As you ascend the stairs at the top there is a large sign asking you to 'wait here to be seated '. My wife and I waited. There 3 people behind the counter, 2 wearing aprons. Two of them looked over at us but with no acknowledgement. We waited. Again the male member of staff this time looked at us, no acknowledgement that we were there. There were only 2 tables occupied so we didn 't wait any longer and went in and sat at a table ourselves. Within a few minutes the male server came over with 2 menus that were thrust onto the table without a word. Then a female server came with note pad and was very polite and attentive. Our order was taken and a table was also booked for later in the week. Whilst waiting a customer came in with a dog on a lead and went straight to where the cakes are displayed and promptly poo 'd on the mat, that is the dog not the owner. The owner cleaned it up seen by the male server. The owner and the dog then went and sat at a table within the cafe not out on the patio. Having been a dog owner most of my life I do not mind dog friendly cafes but I do feel that they should have a segregated area for such customers with dogs. The outside patio area seems suited for this purpose. It was not raining this day and is mostly covered anyway. I did not see any staff member go to that area where the dog had poo 'd to inspect it or spray any disinfectant over the mat or put a cleaning sign up temporarily. We finished our food and drink and left. By the time we left the cafe was getting busier and nothing was said by us to the staff, however it is not my job to tell the staff their job."
