"We'd rented a nearby cottage for a week's stay in Bath and had walked by this place several times before deciding one night to give it a try. We'd had a long day of walking all over town and just hoped that we'd be able to find a good place for a meal nearby and, based on the great experience we had there, we considered ourselves lucky to have stumbled in. The place was semi busy the evening we were there, but we were seated in a good sized dining area past the bar and up a small staircase (low ceiling watch your head! and given menus to review (after ordering two pints of Guinness to nurse while we were making up our minds . The first thing we'd noticed was this was not your typical pub menu. It seems that the chef there was a bit of a Francophile, so when I saw that they were offering a bowl of fish soup as a starter with cheesy croutons and a garlic aioli I knew that I had to give that a try. My wife skipped her starter and ordered a serving of cod and prawn paella, while I chose the coq au vin (we agreed at that point to share our mains and we both waited patiently for the food to arrive (it wasn't slow service, but we were very eager to get our food! . Soon after, my fish soupe arrived and it was a nice sized bowl of thick, pureed deliciousness, just the right amount of saffron and garlic yum. It was sad to see it go. Our mains arrived and they were both perfectly prepared. The coq au vin was particularly good, with a sauce that just begged for bread to sop it all up (which we did with relish . We decided to finish things off with an English cheese board that included samples of local bleu, cheddar and the Bath white cheese that they're rightly proud of. A couple of nice chutneys and jams rounded things out and provided the perfect way to finish off this meal. Service was very prompt and friendly, the atmosphere quite homey and, if we lived there, this would be on our list of places we'd visit regularly. Definitely worth a trip if you're in town."

Best meal we ate the whole time we were in bath. Simple menu, non pretentious, very tasty and reasonably priced. Nice homely environment. Well done

Sunday lunch why serve frozen potatoes, Yorkshire puds etc. £120 for 3 sub standard Sunday roasts and 2 rounds of drinks for 3. Never usually put a review: however so disappointing! The waitress was fab !

Lovely inn. I came here for two nights to attend a conference and had planned to experience some of the restaurants in Bath but ended up eating here both nights as the food and atmosphere was lovely. Nice selection of craft ales and very friendly and attentive staff. The single room was nice, comfortable and clean. Highly recommended!

Great hidden gem and lovely to get away from the busy streets of bath, I'm so glad I found this beautiful pub. Very friendly and welcoming staff and a great variety of food and drink on offer. I found the pub by mistake while wandering unknowingly away from shops but so glad I did as it was much quieter than the city itself and was just the break I needed in my day. It's actually only a few minutes walk from the centre but so peaceful. View menu

A pre theatre meal at The Griffin, first time visit .The pub gas been made really attractive and the booking system is efficient,Service is prompt and a small but well chosen wine list plus decent range of beers at the bar. The fish soup is excellent and a first class chicken salad with free range chicken .Efficient service from friendly staff. Roger Payne, the owner has recently opened a third restaurant in Bath so off to try that next time

I went to The Griffin on Thursday, December 7th and Friday, December 8th, for two Christmas meals with different groups of friends. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with our experience. The restaurant lacked any festive atmosphere, there were no crackers on the table, and the full Christmas menu was not available - no sprouts, no carrots, etc. Despite our complaints, the waitress only brought a candle to our table, but there was nothing to light it with. Overall, The Griffin did not meet our expectations and was not prepared for the holiday season.

I absolutely loved the atmosphere of the restaurant and thought the food was amazing. However, I was disappointed with the service when it came to the food. We were overcharged for our meals, as the prices on the menu did not match what was charged. The staff did not apologize when we brought it to their attention. It was also quite quiet during our visit, and the staff forgot to bring cutlery to several tables, including ours. We had to ask for cutlery ourselves. At one point, a table next to us had to go to the bar to ask for a spoon after they had already received their desserts. View menu

We love sampling new restaurants and booked The Griffin Inn as we saw they do a roast on a Sunday. However upon arrival, it became clear that the only roast available was Beef. The menu is pretty extensive however I've never been anywhere that only offers one type of roast on a Sunday. We spoke to the chap behind the bar who was very helpful and did us a vegan burger with one of the roasts we ordered. The food however took a long time to come and when it did appear, it was very average. I've had much nicer meals out in Bath. The ambience in there is calming and the decor is lovely but I don't think we'll be returning.

I 'll admit to a slight conflict of interest here I 'm a local and this pub is definitely my local , even though I live about a mile away and there 's loads of pubs between home and here. But I thought I 'd leave a review as it 's fairly recently (April 2023 changed hands and it 's had time to settle down. Firstly, great pub for beers, lagers, Guinness, wine, spirits cocktails. Selection is superb I 've never had a bad pint here. Secondly, now it 's doing food, the food is excellent. I 've eaten here twice the selection is wide different from other pubs, something for everyone. But most of all, it 's the staff that make this place. Always friendly to everyone, including dogs, attentive servi...
