"As a group we 've drank here for over a decade without there ever being an issue until last night (we 're all 45+ . The landlord appeared at closing time and started shouting the odds at us and became aggressive towards us as we left. I don 't think he like cyclists it 's not wise to pretend to phone the police about your clientele as they are leaving peacefully claiming that they are too drunk to stand and threatening the staff, especially when you have CCTV. Demanding that we leave immediately then threaten to lock us in the courtyard if we didn 't was somewhat counterproductive. The lion always had 3 top notch guest ales on until recently, now they usually have one half decent guest, and one dire one along with the trio of Weetwood house ales. I 've never eaten here, only consumed the beer, so I won 't comment on the food, but with an attitude like that it 's probably better that the landlord who is also the head chef stays in the kitchen for his and others safety. Whilst the pub is charming and beers can be good (they are certainly well kept the landlords attitude certainly marrs the experience. Edit. I feel I need to add more to this. When we left, I had a laugh and joke with the young barmaid about me falling down the stairs several months earlier, her response was, oh, so, you 're stair man! With that in mind, I really can 't imagine that she was scared of us at all.. I 'm not going to deny that I told him I 'd C U Next Tuesday as locking our bikes in was an unwarranted and unnecessary threat. At 1135 two of us nipped to the gents as we were leaving, nobody asked us to leave up to this point and the landlord charged into the gents and hurled a tirade of abuse at us, he then stormed outside and threatened to lock our bikes in (he told the police that he offered to keep them safe! , we left and then, he charged out of the open front door (after I spoke to the barmaid at the open front door stating that the landlord is a bit lively issuing threats to myself whilst allegedly on the phone to the police. If the pub was as closed as he said, why were people still leaving via the front door? The police reviewed the footage and sided with us. Just so you know folks, the landlord here banned the entire Nantwich Cycle Group from this pub too, why? Because he doesn 't like cyclists. Ladies and gentlemen, vote with your wallets, there are plenty of pubs in this town that are welcoming, sadly, the landlord of this one is not. In the 48 years I 've been alive, I 've never been treated like this in any establishment. Vote with you wallets people and Pick a welcoming establishment, I 've posted this publicly with my profile, so, I have nothing to hide. The landlord is hiding behind his business. I wish him the best...."

"Stayed here last night in room 10 after visiting the Magical Woodland at Blakemere Village. Check in to check out was as smooth as could possibly wish for No messing round spoke to a nice girl at the bar who showed us to our room after giving our name, breakfast order sheets given to us with plenty to choose from (Full English was delicious! . Room didn't look anything like the hotels website but this is not a bad thing the room was lovely and had a refurb by the looks of things. Plenty of room for 2 people, lots of lighting and a modern bathroom most of all it was very clean! Have been on a little roadtrip lately staying at a few different hotels (Including Ruthin and Peckforton Castle but this bed was hands down the comfiest we have stayed in, I went out like a light and even debated skipping breakfast as I was so comfy (Glad I didn't, the Scran was amazing and set us up for the day . Check out was simple gave the keys to the housekeeper and said our goodbyes to two ladies. Overall at £60 for a Saturday night with Brekkie and lovely hospitality then i can assure you this place is absolute value for money. If we are ever in the area again then this will be our go to. Side note: was talking to Liz and Ange when we was leaving and happened to mention we have just had a new back garden bar built we were then gifted some glasses/runners and an amazing Sign Board to take home! It's the small things that make amazing memories Honestly book this place and you won't be dissapointed!"

"We arrived to our big family booking early so had some drinks in the bar area while we waited. The table itself was definitely ready, we could see it, it being the only 12-seater table. Despite this, and despite us arriving early, they still seated us half an hour late from our original booking time. The waitress for our table once we were sat down was rude, uninterested and unhelpful. We sat for a further half hour before we had to request we have our order taken as we’d been waiting for so long. A drinks menu was requested and also never arrived at the table. We had to get up and go to the bar to ask if we could have more drinks at the table, to which the bar staff were saying that our server should have asked us and sorted it. At this point the waitress came over to see what the commotion was and then after saying we wanted to order drinks she rudely told us that she’d already been round our table to take orders and why hadn’t we already asked then. Drinks, once ordered, took far too long to arrive with some being missed off the order completely. When we asked if we could pay the bill, the waitress was again rude and impatient through the whole process. When we had finished with the bill, we had about 20 minutes waiting for our taxis to arrive, so decided to have another drink while we waited. However, the bar staff took that long to even acknowledge us at the bar that we had to abandon the idea as we had already waited 15 minutes to be served and we wouldn’t have had time to drink them. One of our party had put their coat in the cloakroom however when they went to retrieve it with the cloakroom ticket, the attendant couldn’t find it. Our friend was understandably panicking and very upset as the taxis were there ready to take us and the restaurant were saying they’d lost the coat. Our friend went to get the original attendant who had put it in the cloakroom to find it for her and meanwhile I went to check myself for the coat. Within in ten seconds I had located the coat, which as exactly where it should have been, on the coat hanger that responded to our friend’s ticket number. So why the attendant couldn’t find the coat is an absolute mystery when I myself found it within ten seconds after insisting I enter the cloak room and have a look for it myself. Overall, terrible service, stressful and unenjoyable experience and I would not recommend to anyone. Their only redeeming feature which is why they have been given a 2-star rather than 1-star rating is that the food was very nice and very good quality. The price we paid for it was expensive but worth it. The service charge however, which was automatically added to the bill, was not worth it and had we not already had such an ordeal trying to get the bill paid, I’d have insisted that be discounted from the total."
