"We arrived to our big family booking early so had some drinks in the bar area while we waited. The table itself was definitely ready, we could see it, it being the only 12-seater table. Despite this, and despite us arriving early, they still seated us half an hour late from our original booking time. The waitress for our table once we were sat down was rude, uninterested and unhelpful. We sat for a further half hour before we had to request we have our order taken as we’d been waiting for so long. A drinks menu was requested and also never arrived at the table. We had to get up and go to the bar to ask if we could have more drinks at the table, to which the bar staff were saying that our server should have asked us and sorted it. At this point the waitress came over to see what the commotion was and then after saying we wanted to order drinks she rudely told us that she’d already been round our table to take orders and why hadn’t we already asked then. Drinks, once ordered, took far too long to arrive with some being missed off the order completely. When we asked if we could pay the bill, the waitress was again rude and impatient through the whole process. When we had finished with the bill, we had about 20 minutes waiting for our taxis to arrive, so decided to have another drink while we waited. However, the bar staff took that long to even acknowledge us at the bar that we had to abandon the idea as we had already waited 15 minutes to be served and we wouldn’t have had time to drink them. One of our party had put their coat in the cloakroom however when they went to retrieve it with the cloakroom ticket, the attendant couldn’t find it. Our friend was understandably panicking and very upset as the taxis were there ready to take us and the restaurant were saying they’d lost the coat. Our friend went to get the original attendant who had put it in the cloakroom to find it for her and meanwhile I went to check myself for the coat. Within in ten seconds I had located the coat, which as exactly where it should have been, on the coat hanger that responded to our friend’s ticket number. So why the attendant couldn’t find the coat is an absolute mystery when I myself found it within ten seconds after insisting I enter the cloak room and have a look for it myself. Overall, terrible service, stressful and unenjoyable experience and I would not recommend to anyone. Their only redeeming feature which is why they have been given a 2-star rather than 1-star rating is that the food was very nice and very good quality. The price we paid for it was expensive but worth it. The service charge however, which was automatically added to the bill, was not worth it and had we not already had such an ordeal trying to get the bill paid, I’d have insisted that be discounted from the total."

"Disappointing. This pub used to be really good but our visit yesterday was not very good. Our party of 11 had a lot of niggles that added up to a very average/poor experience, mainly due to slow service slow but also meal quality was not as good compared to their usual standard. Pate starters were bland and tasteless this time, nowhere as good as I 've had before. The Christmas Dinner costs over £20 now and several of us found the turkey to be very dry. Comically we each had two cranberries dotted on the plate side, and a single sprout cut in half. There were other veggies of course, but my own green veg portion was cold. The portion size was fine and plenty of gravy but sadly cold plates meant a luke warm (definitely not piping hot) meal. Service was slow, and one person did not get their fish meal until other people had eaten half their main courses. I wanted to say something to the waitress but they did not check us...I later learned she checked a couple at the far end of the table but not everyone. They were understaffed and we had to order extra drinks at the bar ourselves, when usually we were frequently checked by staff if extra drinks are needed. The slowest service was for puddings, they took nearly 25 minutes and arrived well after the hot drinks that were supposed to come together. A staff member later said it says hot drink and pudding on the menu, does not say they come together . I thought he was joking but he clearly seemed unbothered by the delay. Minor things were niggling too, the waitress adamantly would not bring condiments until after all the meals were served. I had nearly finished my turkey when the cranberry sauce arrived. The puddings were the best part, the waffle mini pudding excellent. But my friend ordered the trifle and it was actually more like a chocolate mousse. We later were told only one member of staff made puddings hence the long delay. The total bill was £380 for 11 of us. Quite expensive given most of us had only two courses and drinks. In summary...used to be a good pub but standards have slipped."

"I booked a table for my family of 6 on bank holiday Monday at 4pm. I visit regularly with my children as it is a firm favourite of theirs in terms of dining out and the food was delicious, as always. The service, however, was disappointing to say the least. On ordering our food i was informed that there was no steak. I had already ordered a red wine but i would have ordered a white wine had i known that there was no steak available. The waitress returned 10 minutes later to take the order once again but i was then informed that there were also no chicken skewers available. I then asked if she could let me know what else was not available to avoid disappointment for a third time. I left our table to discuss the issues with the head waitress, who appeared to be front of house, but she was dismissive and rather rude. She stated that i did not 'need ' to drink my red wine if i was not enjoying it, to which i promptly replied that i was actually enjoying my wine, it is just that i would not have ordered a red wine had i known that a steak was not available. I suggested that it would be helpful to inform customers of any items not available as soon as they arrive but my comments were ignored. We needed another round of drinks before our food arrived but our waitress was no where to be found so i left our table again to queue at the bar for these. On returning to our table 20 minutes later the food had arrived but with no cutlery so i had to source some. I then had to chase side orders including bread and butter for the fish and chips and parmesan cheese for the spaghetti bolognese for the children, but even though i mentioned this these never arrived. We left feeling very disappointed with the service indeed. There was no thank you for our custom and no acknowledgement as we left whatsoever. When you spend over £100 as a family on a meal out as a rare treat i think you certainly have the right to expect more!"
