"We’ve been to The Mill several times and always had reasonably good food there, so took a friend there for dinner on Sat night. There were two issues this visit. Firstly on arrival we could barely get through the door it was rammed around the entrance part of the bar with young drinkers. Apparently a younger crowd who have allegedly been barred from three other pubs in Haslemere are now descending on the Mill at weekends to drink. We thought we’d walked into a private party. No effort seemed to be made to get these groups away from the door. We couldn’t check in at the bar like usual and we’re left hanging around like spare parts until we got someone’s attention. The noise in the main dining room was not conducive to a pleasant meal and conversation. After asking we were moved to the room around the corner. The Mill really needs to tackle this quickly otherwise they are going to lose diners. Secondly food not up to scratch and portion size, specifically of the mussels, was very mean. Some of our food was lukewarm when it turned up. And you are going to sell mussels on the menu as a main course you really need to be serving more than 11 of them I counted. Go back to offering smaller starter and larger main portions £10.95/£17.95 respectively) or move the mussels to starter menu to avoid disappointment. On a positive note, the pie was excellent and the waitress was lovely and did her very best to improve our experience. Hence the two stars. I’m not sure we’ll be back for dinner again, lunch time might be a safer bet."

"Myself and some friends decided to stop here for Sunday lunch on our way home from a weekend away. We were greated by a staff member at the door who was quite abrupt with us that we hadn't made a reservation to have lunch. After looking at various things she then took us to dining area. And seated us I asked my friends at that point if they would like to go somewhere else as we weren't made to feel welcome and it felt like because we just turned up to see if they had availability this was an inconvenience. We were left with the menus and we all ordered our drinks and our meals about 10 minutes later the staff member returned and told us we had to wait to be called up for the carvery. There was a couple of people getting food and that was all the carvery chef was stood behind the carvery and we sat there for a while before asking could we come up as we didn't understand what we were actually waiting for we were served our meals and when we sat down the chef and a waitress were picking at the meat with there hands the waitress that seated us was continually starring at our table and makeing us feel uncomfortable. Another waitress sat a table next to us and explained that when they were ready they could go and get there meal. Myself and one of my group went outside to have a vape and and we were littrelly watched outside untill we come back in like we were going to do a runner bearing in mind that two of our friends were still sat at the table with all our stuff we went back in paid for our food and left. We were left really disappointed at how we felt we had been treated and that we were made to feel un trustworthy and a nuisance there was four of us at the table with ages between 36-65 we definitely will not be returning to this location when we come back to selsey in the future."

"For the attention of Rob Goodier, Upham Inns. We stayed at the White Hart on 5 November in one of your double rooms for a special occasion on our way to a family celebration. When we arrived we were informed that you were having 'issues ' with the boiler. An electric heater had been put in our room and we were advised there should be some hot water. The heater was fine and warmed the room but there was absolutely no hot water. We had dinner in the pub that evening and were told that there would be some hot water for a shower in the morning. We got up early in the morning and ran and ran the hot water but it was stone cold so we could not shower as it was freezing cold. We complained at breakfast about no hot water and were only then told that the reason for this was that they had run out of heating oil for the boiler as it had not been ordered from the supplier. So the tale about having boiler issues was completely untrue and the actual reason was due to the failure of management to order a supply of oil in good time and before it had totally run out. We were angry as had we known the true situation when we arrived, we would have stayed somewhere else that night. In fact, we should have been informed before we arrived and given the option to stay or make alternative arrangements. The whole experience spoilt two days of what was supposed to be a special break away. In future, have respect for your customers and do not lie. Tell the truth if there is an issue so your customers can make an informed decision as to what they want to do. You tell people if you have run out of roast beef for dinner so why did you not tell us about running out of heating oil and that was the real reason the boiler wasn 't working?"
