"After a wonderful day of shopping, we decided to relax with a drink and enjoy the view at lunchtime on August 21st. We had just enjoyed a delicious breakfast at the Cavendish Hotel in Baslow, where we stayed for our anniversary. The lady at the drinks and ice cream counter was lovely and very professional, serving us a small bottle of beer and a small bottle of perfectly chilled Pinot Grigio with the correct glasses, as well as a side of ice. The food that was served inside and outside looked plentiful and delicious, and it was delivered promptly. We were pleased to see that only guide and assistant dogs were allowed in the restaurant. "The service upon arrival was pleasant and efficient. However, we received double the amount of popadoms we had ordered, which seemed odd. After waiting for an hour without any indication of when our food would arrive, we noticed that a table which arrived after us had already been served. It turned out that they were served first because they did not receive popadoms like we did. When we questioned this, we were told that the table had been served first because they did not have popadoms. This was the final straw for us, as waiting for over an hour in a restaurant without any explanation was unacceptable. Despite the waiter trying to downplay our wait time, another diner confirmed that we had indeed been waiting for over an hour. In the end, we decided to leave, as other diners also voiced their complaints about the long wait."

"After many years of attending and consistently receiving an amazing welcome , I was delighted to find the recent national issues, had not impacted the response /welcome I was shown, from Paul and all his family/staff at the café. And to add to that delight, the cooking and food supplied by his wife, was exceptional, yet realistically priced. I look forward to many more years of attending this venue. And would strongly urge other travelers/tourists to this beautiful area, to seek out this café and indulge in what is a not to be missed experience!!"

"The menu is'nt enormous as you would find in most take aways but there's a decent choice. I ordered the crispy chicken in sweet and sour sauce. The sauce was far too spicy for my partners liking and she couldn't eat it all. I found it very hot too. I'd suggest that they put a warning on the intensity unless this dish came out different to what you would normally do. The beef, chicken and prawn fried rice could have done with the meat fried with the rice, it looked like they were cooked separately and just thrown in at the end. Prawn crackers were amazing, very nice and very fresh, the best I've ever had! The chips were delicious, nicely cooked and not the usual Chinese style chip. The curry sauce was also different to what I'm used to, a huge tray which I wasn't expecting but really tasty. I was quite disappointed with the special fried rice portion, roughly ¾ full and at the price £6.95, I would have expected a full tray. It was obvious that the place was busy with orders and there were mistakes, both in the waiting time for my food and the overcharging (I always rate my experiences on the food quality, not waiting which is lucky for you guys! Apologies were made and mistakes were quickly dealt with in a very honourable way. Considering this place is a bistro, they do a great job cooking Chinese cuisine, probably not what I'm use to but definitely worth a cruise through their menu and also other theme nights such as Mexican, Spanish tapas and pizza. I did read the reviews before I chose to order and really have to make it clear that these reviews are spot on! I cannot wait to visit again and try other dishes. This is a pet friendly bistro, I didn't know or else I'd have booked a table."

"After a lovely walk on the monsal trail, we found a quaint pub named the wheatsheaf. Met by Sahil, warm greeting and showed us to our seats. Lovely pint of Aspall, so decided to order food. Fish and chunky chips, steak and ale pie with lovely thick gravy. Great find, sorry no photos."

"Walked to Hartington from home fully intending to grab a bite to eat here. We arrived at 13.40pm and so had a good hour to dine then get the bus back. We had different meals: bacon, brie cranbury and hot crusty bread, and the second meal was a big breakfast but had 2 x eggs plus an oatcake, and a pot of tea for two. It was all absolutely fantastic, large, tasty and great value for money. A quick tub of raspberry ripple ice-cream finished it off perfectly. Apart from the great food the service and staff were absolutely wonderful....... Top notch. Lovely people that go above and beyond with a smile. I recommend 100% and we shall be regulars, but I think we'll drive there in future. A big thank you to everyone for everything!!!"

"I absolutely love cafe in the park. I’m happy every time I come in for a cuppa and a coke or lunch. Everyone who works there is amazing. Today though was the absolute best. I had the turkey, bacon, cheese and cranberry stack with pigs in blankets and it was (chefs kiss) perfect. My mother in law had the turkey and stuffing ciabatta, with pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and gravy and said the exact same thing. I know what I’m having for lunch next Wednesday."

"Just had possibly the best poached eggs on toast. So many times I've been disappointed that cafes and restaurants seem to have difficulty. These were done to perfection on a doorstep piece of toast. Beautiful flavours, I was in absolute heaven. Hubby had a full English and he is very fussy beautifully cooked and great ingredients. He loved it. Service was fast and efficient with a smile. The Place itself is lovely and modern and very inviting. I would definitely recommend a visit. We will be back. Forgot to take photos because it was all too delicious!"

"I reserved a table for my husband and myself, as i was celebrating my birthday on the past 29th.December 2023. I wanted to eat somwhere special where i thought the food would be good. My husband and i had been previously invited by my cousin and her husband to the Wheatsheaf for lunch last September 2023. It was a saturday and the Wheatsheaf was packed. I think it might have been a bank holiday weekend. We could not get a table, but were told we might get some seats close to the bar, and we would have to order the food ourselves, which we did. We were amazed at how quickly we got our food and it was excellent !!! My husband is difficult to cater for as he has food allergies. I had a ribeye steak cooked to perfection medium rare and my husband had sirloin steak cooked to perfection very well done . My husband even congratulated the chef. I was really looking forward to my birthday evening meal, but to my dismay, it wasn't to be. We were taken to a table with no lighting, so i could not read the menu properly. We were quickly moved to a better table after asking. Another two couples came in after us and both got served quickly and they left before us. We were still waiting for an hour to be served, and it wasn't even busy !!! When it finally came, my meal was almost cold sirloin steak with king prawns in batter . I admit the prawns were nice as they were hot.I had to send the steak and chips back to be warmed up, but when it came back the sirloin steak was chewy and i did not enjoy it at all. I was not even asked how i would like my steak. We both noticed that the floor was dirty with spilt food and a table that had not been cleared up. Waiters just walked over it and ignored the table. My birthday was marred by this experience. Before all this, i was even thinking about coming back again to try something else on the menu, but i don't think i will be doing now. We were given a 20% discount as an apology for the wait, but it did not make up for the bad service and the quality of my meal."

"I went to this restaurant for a light lunch and decided to order two starters instead of main dishes. I got the vegetable soup in a large bowl with a selection of warm bread, which was very tasty and piping hot. The meatballs were served in a delicious tomato sauce with mozzarella and also came with warm bread for dipping. Both dishes were generously portioned and extremely flavorful. The service was friendly and quick, creating a welcoming atmosphere. I couldn't find any faults with the meals."

"Perfect little tea cottage, in the heart of the Chatsworth Estate at Edensor, which is a beautiful and very special little village. The staff could not have been more welcoming, we arrived early and they welcomed us in, out from the cold. Opens at 9.30am. We were shown to our table where we could wait in the warm whilst the team set up. Beautiful quirky building, with lots of character with some old traditional features. Lovely friendly staff, the food and service was fabulous. We couldn't fault a thing. I had one of the vegan options, and it was delicious, the rest of the party were just as thrilled with their choices and the service. I noticed some 1 star reviews and these are all mainly due to waiting at busy times, so really not deserved in my opinion! Faultless 10 out of 10 for a perfect service. Thank you to all the staff at Edensor, it was our first visit and we would highly recommend, and return if we were in the area."

"I went there with my boyfriend for dinner (both foreigners and on a holiday in the area). Not only have they mistreated us while taking our Personal details (Covid), but they ignored us for over half an hour by not acknowledging us and serving other costumer around our table. We saw other tables getting their drinks (all locals, white, mostly male and cisgender) and when we tried to get the waitress’s attention we got ignored.I came across the bar to talk to the waitress again so we could place the order (at this point we just wanted to get some food and a pint as it was 20:30 already and were quite hungry) but we were told to wait at the table and she would be with us in a minute.She finally came to the table and took our order (finally! We were happy we were actually having food) but two minutes later she came back telling us that kitchen was closed even though we were never been told the kitchen was about to close Upon arrival.We tried to explain to her that we’ve been waiting for 30 minutes, and that every other restaurant and pub in town was closed, that we didn’t care what they would serve us, we just wanted to eat something. She then replied without making eye contact and a very bad attitude “can’t you see how busy I am? We’re not serving food” and then just walked away from us. Bare in mind that she had just taken a good order from a table across from us 5 minutes ago.This is very sad and concerning that something like this still happens in a contra like the UK. Someone had recommended us this place and to our surprise it was demoralising to go somewhere and be treated like that. Poor management and mediocre service"

"Mainly used for Wedding Parties meetings but the have a very lovely cafe restaurant. This building is full of history charm and character. If visiting the centre and the adjoining park remember there is a small charge to park. At the bottom of the park visit the railway station used for visitor trips. Very quaint with a glimpse of the past, steam trains charging through, signals and signal box. The park is good for children be careful, deep lake and pond close. The centre is run by volunteers and donations. Please support if visiting."

"A very wet monday night for 2 campers and a dog! We were so grateful for a lovely welcome. It was full of customers. We sat in the pergola area which was beautiful whilst the rain continued to pour down. I had the most interesting and delicious salad that I have ever been offered and added delicious cauliflower pekora. My partner had sea trout which he greatly enjoyed followed by a beautiful sweet which included mango pomegranate, In the middle of the night we were rained out of our tent, packed up and went home! The Ashford Arms was a wonderful haven which we highly recommend. Deidre and Mike"

"Where to start … we stumbled across this place when looking for breakfast on our first morning. Thrilled to find that it was also dog friendly in the lounge and bar area we had a really nice breakfast fruit juice, tea, cooked breakfast etc. That was lovely. Staff very attentive, brought our dog a water bowl and offered to get him some treats. The hotel seems to have been recently refurbished judging by the pictures on Trip Advisor which aren’t of the current decor it is done to a beautiful standard now. We enjoyed our breakfast so much we ate breakfast there three out of the four mornings we were in Bakewell. We also returned one evening for dinner. We had some lovely drinks in the lounge area to start the barman makes a lovely pornstar martini which is my favourite. Our dog was welcome in the bar area and there was a good atmosphere in the room and it was entertaining watching all the cocktails being made. We had some lovely food including seared tuna, ham hock, burger and lemon posset to finish (I would have happily eaten almost all of the puddings! . Overall this place was great. You really aren’t spoilt for choice on great places to eat in Bakewell, certainly not to this standard. If I was having my time again I’d of booked for dinner here at least another time. Thoroughly recommend it. Thank you."

"We like to try different pubs in the Peak District for Sunday lunch and I have to say that The George came pretty high up the list today. I can quite honestly say that although we've eaten in many places in Tideswell, we've never tried...The George, but seeing good reviews on TA, we thought we'd try it. I had the Turkey roast and the OH had the chicken, leek and bacon pie. There were 5 veg, plus mash and a superb Yorkshire pudding that must have just come out of the oven. We shared a crumble, which, again, was excellent (made with brown sugar and butter! It was all very reasonable and the staff were attentive. However, just one point to mention, we were cold, as were other people please next time we come, have the heating on and light the fires it makes such a difference!!"

"While traveling from Stockport to Lincoln through the Peak District, we stopped at a café for a cup of tea and a bacon roll to fuel us for the journey ahead. The café appeared cozy and inviting, but we were shocked to find that the tea cost £2.50 each. We ordered two bacon sandwiches at £4.95 each, but the service was disappointingly slow. Despite ordering two teas, only one pot was brought to our table. After 35 minutes of waiting, we found out that our order had not even been placed with the kitchen. Frustrated and pressed for time, we requested a refund and left the café, feeling hangry. Thankfully, we found a much more pleasant experience at the Spire View Cafe just 5 miles down the road, where we enjoyed friendly service and delicious food at a reasonable price. Overall, we would not recommend Cafe 19 due to its slow service and unprofessional staff."

"this was are first visit under the new ownership .we the only 3 people in the service was vey slow and poor we orderd dough ball for starters these took over half an hour and where vert chewy the pizzas took a further hour to arrive and the crusts where burnt also they where large pizza? but as big as my hand .having visited many times under the old owners we where very disapointed .if it ever gets busy ie more than you be there for a week to get your order .we are now going to the coop for more pizzas as we are still hungry please come back the old owner"

"We popped here for a quick sandwich and a coffee after a day out. Although we felt the prices were expensive, we could live with paying £5.50 for a bacon sandwich as we believed it would be of good quality. The bread was stale and the bacon was like paper but this was not the worst part. Our partners both ordered a cheese and onion sandwich respectively, the cheese tasted funky and I would argue it had gone off and the onion was mouldy. There was actual parts of mould in our sandwich which for my partner who is 37 weeks pregnant, this was not one of her cravings. Overpriced and underwhelmed to say the least. Will not be returning here unfortunately"

"We were visiting a few churches in the area with a group of 10 friends and we had booked into The Gate for lunch. What a warm welcome we received. The fire was burning brightly in the grate, the brasses were gleaming and the tables were all invitingly laid out ready for our meal. The menu had lots of choice but most of us were enticed by the pie menu, steak Stilton being the most popular with game pie and chicken leek also chosen. The servings were so generous that only a few of us had room for afters but these also looked delicious . A good selection of real ales too. Excellent service and ambiance. Would thoroughly recommend. Thank you for memorable visit."
