"as table of 11 for a birthday meal. initially the waiting staff was amazing that amd could not blame that she tried to do everything she could to make the experience. sadly, management was just rude. the manager himself- Debbie, decided to go a long break as soon as she heard of the waitress we wanted to complain. then to meet someone who every time I try to get involved with something in the bar and ignored me. so first on Sunday they don't offer a Sunday menu as the website suggests, but they can only order roasts, that's good we did that. only what they call a homemade roast is 3 frozen small pre-baked bratkartoffels and the smallest tasteless cuts of roast beef and a stone-hard yorkshire and a few cheesy the child's meal is the same size only a less kartoffel. I asked the courtesy of the waitress who apologized and said she would talk to the kitchen that she then returned and said they would cook now. So I started eating my tasteless roast. she then returned and said they had run out of kartoffel, so I asked if a manager could come and talk to us. that was at 5 o'clock. then she can come back to tell me that the manager would come and talk to us. it has 6 clock and no sign of manager. we just wanted to get on this stage. So I went up to the bar, and the man said he had climbed when the manager had taken a break. he has made us responsible for the fact that the roast is as we arrived at 4 o'clock. (they serve until 8.30 o'clock) apparently cook it on the morning and then heat it again, if necessary explained a lot! then he said they had stopped serving food and ran out of potatoes (they still have eating and eating a few) and to top that from my neffen went back to the pub after we had the dead and the manager had suddenly got up again! I then also came to be aware of a contribution to there Facebook page later this evening for others and they answered with a very rude answer. please do not eat them in this pub and if they are warned about the rudeness and lies out of the administration and the tasteless other expensive food."

"Been going here for 13 years and it has generally been fairly good but in the past 3 years or so the standards have slipped significantly. In particular we ordered salt and pepper king prawns which were completely inedible pre cooked prawns re heated and dry and way over salty. Have given them the benefit of the doubt too many times now. Great shame that they don’t seem to care any more."

"Visited today with my husband and pooch for Sunday lunch, it was amazing, my husband had the beef, which melted in the mouth and all the veg was cooked perfectly. I had the ploughman’s with a side of the chips (which were the crispiest chips I’ve ever had! The cheese was sooo good and plentiful, the salad was really well dressed and the accompanying pickles and chutney were yum, it also came with a big hunk of artisan bread and butter. There was a really lovely buzz and we can’t wait to go back!"

"My son had a day off from school so we decided to walk along the River Otter and finish at Otterton Mill for Brunch. It was a nice day so we sat in the outdoor area. After locating a nice table by the stream I went inside to place our order. It stated on the menu that breakfast was served til 11. However 2 items (including a tomato bruschetta that we were hoping to have) said they were available until 11.30am. A quick check of my watch and it was 11.33 but I thought maybe they would be able to accommodate this request as it was a quiet Friday morning. The young lady said straight away “No breakfast stops at 11.” No apology or “Really sorry but….” So I pointed to the menu and said “These 2 items say they are available til 11.30 though? It’s only an extra 3 mins past?” To which I got a very flat “No the kitchen literally stops breakfast at 11” I wanted to leave and eat elsewhere as it was just a really sucky attitude but my son was hungry so we ended up ordering the soup of the day (which at 11.30 felt a little odd) which was quite nice and the bread is lovely but the overall staff attitude somewhat soured the taste of it. Unfortunately I won’t be returning. As I said to my son it doesn’t matter how good the food is if the service is poor."

"We had a family lunch, eight of us, plus a two year old, on August Bank Holiday Monday. Having only booked it at breakfast time having eyed the lunchtime special menu, we considered ourselves lucky to get in there even more so having actually sampled the quality of the food served. At £12.95 for a two course, £15.95 for three, in such beautiful surroundings, one tends not to expect too much of the service or food, here that is an entirely erronious assumption. The menu is English, perhaps with a more generous choice than you would expect, in our party the roast pork and scampi proved particularly popular, both proving to be best of breed in terms of presentation, flavour and value. Some of us had starters, some sweets, all portions were generous and we did not have a dud dish between us eight entirely satisfied diners is good going, especially when, including a few (mostly non alcoholic) drinks the total bill came to less than £140.In keeping with the surroundings and food was the service, professional, friendly and at the same time unobtrusive, all in all this proved to be a fantastic eating out experience."

"Have to agree with the critical reviews about this place: I got corrected by the woman at the till when I ordered a large Latte was told most people have a shot in theirs when checked if my drink was going to have Oatmilk in it as I 'd requested. The large Latte turned out to be a small a good inch from the top of the mug. Being asked for another 40p on top of the drinks price for an alternative milk is a really annoying, unfair tax: I 'm really allergic to cows milk, it isn 't a fad of mine. The 3 staff behind the counter were more preoccupied in squeezing the dregs out of the mulled wine warmer than serving anyone else.... Avoid!"

"Stopped for lunch on a very sunny day. We had our dog with us and were made to feel very welcome. Both outside tables were either reserved or taken, so went inside. There was just one other couple in, however soon filled up in the next half hour. The curry and rice and mushroom and leak pastry were ordered. I was informed the curry was very tasty and was duly dispatched. I had the mushrooms and leak pastry, they were delicious very creamy and moorish. There were plenty of chips I did have help eating them) and the salad, again was delicious. I finished the meal with a flat white and should have had another one. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Well worth the visit"

"Indeed, having had many oriental foods and cuisine from Chinese to Vietnamese passing by Suchi, in the UK but as much in Southern California for 11 years and Manhattan for 1 year, I know about price/quality within those cullinary sectors, take aways included. I am in awe of this place: brilliant service but more so, an extremely well priced menu with mega portions and a taste to die for! The Beef Chow Mein as well as the Honey and Ginger Chicken eben the Duchk Chow Mein noodles were THE BEST we have eaten in years! We know where to go when we need special golden minded TLC Oriental foods wise: this is the place. Mille mercis!"

"Arrived around 10:00 am for breakfast, and the main restaurant was about half full, but not too busy. After a long wait, our order was taken, and after an even longer wait (too long) our food arrived. The best item was the freshly squeezed orange juice, although the coffee was not too bad. My wife had ordered the poached eggs with toast and bacon which turned out to be cold with the toast missing butter and looking as if it was just stale bread. I had ordered the large breakfast and wished I had sent it back. Dried out baked beans, black pudding so dry, it could have been used in an ice hockey game, two thin tasteless sausages burnt on one side, bacon so dry and tough that it could be used to re-sole shoes. With that, every item was luke-warm or so cold that I could not finish the meal. The worst breakfast I have had for a long, long time. Could not wait to get out, so the farm shop has missed out on other sales. Not going back."

"During lockdown we ordered home delivery a few times and the food was superb, today we finally went in and had cream teas and ice creams with the kids, from the second we stepped in we were made to feel welcome by the friendly staff, they couldn't do enough for us and nothing was too much trouble, which is a godsend when you have with you hyper 3 and 6 year old kids. Delicious home made, crumbly and warm scones with plenty of cream and jam to go around. Will definitely be going back, we only live around the corner and its so often too easy to just go to Costa or Coffee #1 but if you look around you can find little gems like this."

"We were on holiday at Finlake and on two visits to Teignmouth we called into the Otter for a light lunch of a sandwich and beverage.Loved the Garden Centre, the layout, the plants and garden "products "for sale, and the whole range of other items displayed.Everthing was to our liking, the food, restuarnt and service provided, Very impressed with it all. However, on our second visit we both had tea which was two little tea pots, smallish cups and saucers and a larger pot of hot water to refill the little teapots with only one used tea bag in them.We asked for a second teabag and was curtly told it would be 50p each which we querid and again curtly told to let it stand longer and it was company policy.4 cups from one tea bag !!!!.The lady serving us was abrupt and in my view rude.To make matters worse,my wife is in a wheelchair so I had to leave the tray of beverage on the counter while pushing my wife to our table, set her in and then go back down to collect the tea tray.Needless to say we were not impressed. The sandwiches with crisps and salad were very good and the staff in the "upstairs "resturant were helpful and courtious. We enjoyed our visits but next time take our own teabag . 50 PENCE FOR A TEABAG IS OUTRAGIOUS"

"Lovely welcome, owner very accommodating, moving a table so we had easier access. All staff made sure that everything was satisfactory. The food was lovely. Lots of gluten free on the menu. Salad even had apples and grapes in it. Pasty, hot and lots of filling. Latte coffees were lovely. The hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows were almost like a meal in themselves. The cakes and pies for desserts were to die for. (Think I need to go on a diet now! All in all a fantastic place to go. We will definitely be back. Thank you. X"

"We visited the Sea Shanty Beach cafe three times this week while staying in Branscombe and had a great experience each time. The staff was friendly, the service was quick, and tables were promptly cleaned. Even during a busy midweek in late September, the atmosphere was pleasant. The food was delicious and reasonably priced - we particularly enjoyed the bacon, Brie, and cranberry ciabatta with crisps and salad, as well as the generous portion of fish and chips. The cafe is dog friendly and also offers high chairs and cutlery for children."

"Second time coming to South Beach and yet again it was lovely. Food was fast and delicious- you can see the chefs preparing the meals in the kitchen while you wait. Had a lovely young lady live singing today whilst we ate- lovely atmosphere, lovely waiting staff and manager who seated us with no problem even though we hadn’t booked. Seem a lovely team. Lovely and clean and tidy as well. Will be back next season as a regular I feel with friends and family. Well done South Beach, have a lovely break."

"A very warm welcome as soon as you walk in with smiling staff and eager to please the customers. The complete staff complement each other and have gelled together. A great pint of beer and the food well what can I say , very tasty well cooked and hot my wife and I will not eat anywhere else from now so when visiting Exmouth you should give Franklin's a try you won't be disappointed."

"Our experience at the Cranberry Inn last Sunday night for a family gathering was absolutely terrible. The hostess informed us that ten dishes on the menu were not available, which was very disappointing. When we ordered drinks, the waitress informed us that they didn't have what we wanted and brought us something else without asking. The food we ended up ordering was subpar, with my kofta being rubbery and the main course being tasteless and served cold. The overall dining experience was so poor that we decided to skip dessert. We have visited this pub before and had good experiences, but this time was exceptionally bad. It seems like there may have been a change in staff or chef, but regardless, it was a night with our extended family that was completely ruined. We will not be returning to eat there again."

"Really nice food. Great new owners who have are really friendly and accommodating. Some have said the food is pricey and whilst it is probably above average pricing, the ingredients are all top notch and where possible, locally sourced. You get what you pay for. We ate here about a dozen times over the summer, mainly with visitors from the SE. They all said what a brilliant place it was and wished it was their local! Well done for the turnaround and all the new innovations."

"excellent customer service and cozy atmosphere of roast was a great disappointment that remained with a full dish and empty bubble! we weren't charged for the meal, only soaked up to the team for that, but it wasn't exactly what. we had hoped. go home to make an omelette on a Sunday! beef should not be gray and spuds felt as if they were left last Sundays! granular! I assume that was because they are kept warm in a very dirty looking hot teller for far longer than necessary the gravure!? .. bizarre! Thickness, irritation and quite tasteless! give them not inferior tasty thick crispy chemically based gravure it will, but certainly not for me! I'm a discombobulatory, how people roar about the quality, because it was simply extremely unsatisfactory. real shame, I don't expect this bad quality at this price! maybe at the hare and hounds. queue angry answer from the extremely unprofessional manager. this will only be his business going on hills when customers read by peters reply. it will be a fleeting and personal dig as the rest of its rebüts. never! oh, and clean her loos wee stinks if not cleaned"
