"What can I say, this is probably the best restaurant I've been to in Inverness. Booking was no hassle either online, through the phone or visiting beforehand. However it would be best to book in advance. The atmosphere of the restaurant is relaxed and inviting, almost a home feel. The wine cellar and Himalayan salt fridge for steaks are in full view. Starters were Duck with Alpine Slaw and Cajun prawns. Both were cooked perfectly and seasoned really well. Great quality seafood and meat. Good crisp vegetables. The prawns may be a little spicy for people not used to it. Mains were the Venison, Sirloin steak, Chicken and Vegetable Linguine. The venison was no doubt the best I've had in the region, perfectly cooked for me (really rare however they will accommodate people) fantastic seasoning and sides. Chicken equally good and the smoked butter was fantastic. The vegetable Linguine though plain looking on the menu, was great for our vegetarian in the party (extra parmesan and chilli flakes available) the steak however really shines, dry aged on site and accompanied with local vegetables and homemade chips. It was divine, however I'd miss out on the sirloin and ribeye to get the fillet as that one I've heard is extremely decadent. Desserts we had were 3 scoops of sorbet (cherry, strawberry and apple) and the Gin and Tonic cheesecake. The sorbets were light and refreshing, perfectly tart and the apple had a great cardamom twist. The cheesecake was light and delicate boasting fruity and botanic flavours. Beverage selection was good with a wide variety of wines and spirits. Overall the food was fantastic, the staff are friendly and efficient (service was great throughout the night however due to covid our desserts took a long time though we weren't in any rush) the location is great and pricing is reasonable (better with the new eat out to help out scheme too) I will definitely be coming here everytime I go to Inverness"

"Tried McBains due to reading good online reviews and their website informing they use all locally sourced ingredients but sadly found it to be no better than average. I tried the prawn cocktail to start hoping it would be something slightly different from the usual with a little bit of invention but it looked like it came straight from a 1980's Christmas dinner table. The prawns were the small watery ones you always see in supermarkets that come frozen and don't cost much and the Marie sauce tasted like it came from a jar. Coming in at just under a tenner for a basic prawn cocktail like that would be too expensive in somewhere like London, never mind Inverness. The Halibut main course had the potential to be excellent all the individual components that made up the dish were really tasty and it all went together well to make a really lovely main course but sadly the Halibut, the star of the dish was way overcooked and made the rest of the dish irrelevant. It too was very expensive at £26 but that could almost be forgiven had the fish been properly cooked. The staff were all really nice, the service was good and the presentation of the food was great too but unfortunately it was style over substance and for locally sourced ingredients why does it have to be so expensive? Surely local produce should be cheaper? But then again Inverness is a tourist town which sadly gives restaurants a licence to overcharge because regardless wether or not your food is excellent or average you're always going to get the trade"

"We were staying near Inverness on the banks of Loch Ness and looking for somewhere nearby for food. Inverness itself didn't seem to have much on offer having already checked Happy Cow. Our B&B hosts recommended this place as having some good veggie options. It's a quirky but old fashioned type restaurant with a gift shop attached as such much of the decor is comprised of things you can buy there, such as millions of mugs hanging from the ceiling and prints and paintings on the walls. the lighting is also very bright. The owner, Guy, seems quite eccentric and has a somewhat odd sense of humour however he was generally friendly and helpful. We were very pleased to find that the menu which was mostly non-vegetarian, had a front page which detailed where they sourced all their meat and other produce all local. The best bit of course was that they had some vegan and vegetarian options, which were very clearly labelled. The menu also stated clearly to mention if you were vegan so that the accompanying vegetables could be prepared without butter. The owners clearly understood about vegan and vegetarian diets! When we visited there were 4 vegetarian options on the menu and 3 of them were already vegan or could be made vegan easily such choice in the north of Scotland is hard to find! The restaurant is not licensed but you can bring your own and no corkage is charged. Also, you really need to drive to this place to make sure you have at least one designated driver. All in all we had a lovely time there and would definitely go back if we were in the area The food was good there were two veggie starters one of them vegan and both mushroom based, so we tried both of them and they were very tasty!"

"Very nice place would recommend! The food is good value for money and very enjoyable too, the staff were very friendly and attentive too! In the Rocpool we ordered: Tomato and Basil Risotto, Parma Ham Salad and Cream of Cauliflower Soup, (starters). Then we ordered Battered Fillet of Hake, Oriental Chicken Salad, Monkfish and Rice (main meal). For desert we had Coconut, Blueberry and Almond Cake, as well as the Creme Brule. Since there is a lot of food here I won't criticise them separately in paragraphs but I will give some important points on the dishes. Start of with the starters. I absolutely loved the starters they were are amazing and everyone enjoyed what they got. I had the tomato and basil risotto which was creamy and delicious and I could've eaten a huge bowl of this. The soup had a distinctive taste of truffle oil and felt very luxurious, it was tasty and silky and wasn't over seasoned. The salad was delicious. It tasted fresh and the pears were succulent yet still had a bite to them. The main meal was a slight disappointment, don't get me wrong they were delicious as separate dishes but together the dish just didn't seem to come together. The oriental chicken salad wasn't bad but wasn't great. To me it was too sweet and just didn't match well with the cashews. The crisp on the chicken was really nice though. The hake was delicious and we could not fault it. The monkfish and rice, like the oriental chicken, the separate components were very tasty but as a dish it didn't really come together. Despite this all three dishes were pretty great. The deserts really made the three course meal. The cake was fluffy, soft and nice but really I thought the creme brule was the best desert. It had a great crackle on the top and the custard just melted in my mouth. It was divine. Overall great place to come and eat. The staff are super kind but I would advise you too book online as it is quite busy. "Love this place. I were here 5 times and i completely love come here. It is a small restaurant, with not big tables and chairs with dim lighting. On every table stay fresh flowers. At the evening plus nice candle. Play eastern nice music. Attention! If you want come here, you need book table. All tables can be occupied. Were here tuesday evening, here were very noisy. So if you need more quiet and nice atmosphere, come here in a day. I managed to try several dishes and liked them all. All were vegetarian. I ordered: Halloumi casserole, halloumi and vegetable shish, babaganoush, aubergine shakshuka, camomile tea. All starters like babaganoush and aubergine shakshuka served with warm pitta bread. I choose from menu berry tea, but it is no more available so i have got camomile tea. Halloumi casserole served with fresh salad and couscous. Halloumi casserole a lit bit spicy but very tasty. Salad served with fresh piece of lemon. For me in salad too much vinegar. Couscous served with tasty herbs. If you order just drink and main dish, it is served without pitta bread. Bread you need order extra. Halloumi and vegetable shish served with bulgur pilav and fresh salad. Halloumi cheese were some burned, so it is a mines 1 star. Babaganoush and aubergine shakshuka were awesome. Very very tasty. Nice staff, delicious food and an overall pleasant atmosphere make this place one of the gems in this city. Thank you very much for this nice experience."
