"I used to rave about how brilliant Garbutts was. I'm really disappointed to say I won't be going again. I can only assume they have a new chef, because it was honestly the blandest food I've ever tasted. I cannot fathom the effort it would take to remove so much flavour from a meal; we had four different dishes and all four tasted of absolutely nothing. On top of this, it's far too bright in there to have an intimate meal, the music is far too loud and all chatter echoes so hard that you have to shout to hear each other speak. What on earth happened to this place? They still have lovely staff, which is the only thing that stops this being a one star review."

"So, I ordered a meal for one: beef with black bean sauce, extra broccoli, and a portion of noodles. The delivery distance was 1 and a half miles, and it came to a total of £15. Now, I don’t mind paying for good food; I’d even be willing to pay more if I genuinely enjoy it. But here’s the catch. When the delivery driver arrived, he asked for £17, and I handed him £20. However, he claimed not to have any change. I usually tip a minimum of a pound, but he didn’t have change for my £20, which left me feeling annoyed. Maybe I’m overreacting, but the meal essentially cost me £20, right? Now, let’s talk about the food. It looked amazing, and I couldn’t wait for the first bite. As I dug in, my optimism started to wane. I really wanted this food to be good, especially since I had just paid £20 for it. I gave it a fair chance, but the more I ate, the more I realized it was a complete waste of money. It lacked flavor, the broccoli had no crunch, and aside from the distinctive taste of the black beans, there wasn’t much going on. Overall, the meal was disappointing. As someone who’s passionate about food and truly appreciates a good meal, this experience was far from satisfying. I hope the owner takes note. All the best."

"Took over 2hours to deliver an order into the city centre, which should have taken a max of 20mins. I appreciate one of the bridges being closed, but still do not expect it to take this long. Extremely disappointed. Keeping people properly updated would help 1 phone call saying it would be another 30mins after already waiting hour is not good enough!. When the food finally arrived it was really good, hot and very filling."

"first! we have set ourselves next to humans, not very covided safe and most employees do not wear masks. when they are, it is not her face or the nase covered. we get table service and the women who served us had the worst. it was that someone could have, they looked like we ruined their day and they didn't want to work. she went around chewing gum and turned around unprofessional and not at all closer. the kind and wise how these women have set off our meals was ridiculous. Not asked who eats it, who it is, was simply whipped on the table and then we had to ask for cutlery after we waited for it! this place feels dirty, the unhygienic toilets do not explain that looked like they were not cleaned in days. no toilet roll, mark in the toilet and the dryer do not work without registration. hot eating was also cold, overall bad experience and will not come back. I'm afraid for my friend who is gluten-free and we're concerned with everything she could have gluten"

"first visit in this pub on recommended as we live in a village on the other side of hull. first impressions, a warm and welcoming mood here. the food came hot, which is great, as many pubs serve only warm. my steak was really nice and cooked, as I asked to cook it, also great. very nice steak also, not full of gristle and fat. overall very good eating to great trips. the drinks are also a good price. the Christmas decorations were up today, and they looked really stylish and tasteful. will definitely return to this pub"

"I have visited Chicken George a few times now and I must say that the food was delicious each time. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offer more than just chicken, such as beef burgers. The speed at which the food is served is impressive, and it arrives hot and stays hot while you eat. The portions are generous and reasonably priced. The wrap I had today was huge and very flavorful. Overall, a great dining experience."

"I have to say the food delivered used to be quite good but sometimes hit and miss. My last order was a so called mixed kebab and I say so called as it was just diced chicken and tons of onion. Worst kebab ever!!! how...you can call that a mixed kebab is beyond me.... One thing I find very strange and let’s the service down Is the fact they have a delivery driver that doesn’t actually deliver and must be the worst delivery person I have ever come across. You receive a call from this particular delivery driver to say that he’s here, so you open the door and he’s not there. Bizarrely he’s sat in his van waiting for you to come out of your house walk down the garden and onto the road side to his van to get your takeaway. Does this every time and it’s not that he’s being over cautious about COVID or anything as previous occasions has been the same well before COVID even existed, so totally bizarre. I have now stopped ordering from Asian kitchen and won’t be using them again."

"I went to this restaurant to grab a bite to eat. However, after looking at the menu, we were informed that the table we were sitting at was reserved. There was no sign indicating this, and we were not offered another table or alternative seating. Instead, we were basically told to leave without any courtesy. The staff even referred to me as "my darling," which was quite disrespectful considering I am older than them. As a result of this poor treatment, the restaurant missed out on a £60/£70 order. Overall, the customer service was terrible."

"Terrible about summarises a meal at Humber Dock bar grill Saturday night, pub atmosphere, loud music and busy with drinkers. Tables should all be separate if they are serious about serving food. They did eventually move us round the corner after originally saying noFood arrived very separately, the first plate to arrive was mostly eaten by the time the 4th meal was served When the bowl of dirty fries was stone called, so we sent back, the same bowl arrived back moments later after a quick blast in the microwave No steak knives for 2 steaks served on the black rocksWhite wine was also not chilledThe pulled pork BBQ beans we ordered, and paid for, was just a bowl of what I can only assume of tinned baked beans but by this time querying it seemed more bother than it was worth, so carried on Iv eaten in lots of places good and bad and never had a TripAdvisor account, but this experience was bad enough for me to sign up and warn other people of my bad experience I enjoy popping in for a quick drink, but I will not be eating here again"

"Had a fantastic night at The Avenue last night. Came with friends for Christmas drinks and ended up having food while here too. Tapas menu is excellent pub grub, definitely recommend the chicken quesadilla and lamb kofta skewers. Service was good, friendly staff despite how busy it was and the atmosphere is amazing at Xmas. Better than spoons."

"I had booked a table online for Valentine's Day and showed the confirmation email to the waitress when we arrived, only to be told that there was no table reserved for us. Despite showing her the confirmation email, the waitress seemed unsure of what to do next. She suggested speaking to the manager, who informed us that they had stopped taking online bookings two weeks prior and were unable to accommodate us. There was no offer of compensation or even a formal apology from the manager, which left us feeling disappointed. This was a highly disappointing experience from a restaurant that is otherwise well-regarded. Thank you for ruining our evening."

"great place and fantastic idea. Finally, somewhere I can go with my man and we both can enjoy it. my man had the apple and cinnamon stew and he thought it was delicious. I had a decaf platter and it was great, better than anything she got from a chain coffee shop. it is however more than the fantastic products that J-Jays lounge 5stars get. the personal is very friendly and responsive. my family and I will definitely go back and I will recommend it to everyone who will listen."

"After trekking a couple of miles to find a fish and chip shop which didn't meet our requirements, my best buddy Tom and I decided to settle with coming here instead for a quick bite to eat before hitting the road. The meal wasn't groundbreaking, hence the 3 stars. The service was very good and waiters really friendly charming, in fact. The food of course is typical of an Italian chain I have travelled Italy extensively so I'm somewhat of a critic when it comes to authentic Italian food. So I was shocked to see they were selling inauthentic pizzas and pasta dishes for over £15. In Italia, you can get a delicious margherita for 6 euro. Anyway, I digress. Despite being slightly overpriced, the pasta I chose was nice, if a little forgettable. Tom enjoyed his calzone and salad, which included green tomatoes."

And it 's attempting silver tea service silverware, when an ordinary Urn would be quicker, cheaper, more appropriate for speedy Patrons oppressed by having seen too mush Art far too concentrated! We had Quiches which were adequate, had they been half the price! Rocket Salad de riguer but rather flavourless. Good chips. Laboured table service, despite our being the only Customers! Could Hull City Council perhaps meet with Item No.1 on its Agenda : Who is the Ferens Restaurant there to serve how can that service be more welcoming, more efficient in the outcome?"

"I was actually looking for the chocolate string sticks, but didn't get them but purchased a gluten free salted caramel chocolate brownie and a gluten free cheesecake.. Oh boy! Totally amazing! I did not read any reviews before purchasing, but so pleased I treated myself. Just enough of a slight crispness on top to beautiful soft gooey middle. "The scene was set when the waitress tipped a full glass of wine over me because of how she held the tray. She literally just stood there and had to ask That she got me a cloth as the napkins were useless. She did apologise. Came for Mother’s Day lunch. Only two other tables full when we arrived. Despite this it took over an hour for food to come which was mostly awful. The meat on the Sunday dinner was full of fat. The dogs will like it though. The veg was barely cooked and was hard to cut up. Soggy roast potatoes. We were told there was a vegan Sunday dinner option of a nut roast. Then we were told there was none left so asked for a Normal roast with the meat on the side. Instead an anemic huge lump of soy arrived which wasn’t even cooked properly. No questions by staff about any allergies nor did they know it was not a nut roast. So my mum only had cauliflower peas and broccoli for her dinner. No potatoes. Complained about this and was offered some chips which arrived undercooked. No vegan dessert available. The waitresses are very young but in urgent need of training and couldn’t answer any questions about the food. No idea if the gravy was vegan or not so it wasn’t eaten. Used to come quite regularly a while ago but this was a totally different experience. The tables were crammed in with little room. We were also all cold. We won’t be back."

"I have visited here on a number of occasions and always sang it’s praise, but I visited recently to catch up with my friend and had a disappointing meal! I never thought I’d be saying this as the food has always been exceptional. I ordered the gyros, and when it arrived I was actually surprised that it left the kitchen! A heap of olives had been dropped on the plate, the chips were thin and scrappy looking, the cubes chicken appeared to have been dumped on the plate and some of it was dry, and there was nothing inside the bread except for shredded iceberg lettuce that had been rammed in. The staff serving were extremely young and because I was out with a friend I foolishly did not complain. It was not value for money (quite expensive) and I did not eat all of my meal. I won’t be returning again. I spent over £16 and that was for a large Diet Coke and he gyros!!!"
