"The most terrible experience I’ve had in Megeve. I checked in at 1:00 pm. The lady asked me to wait at the bar for a table . After 45 minutes, I went to her as I started seeing some tables available . She told me to wait for another 15 min for some guests to leave and to set the table . After 15 minutes, nothing happened … she completely disappeared . So, I went for a waiter for guidance , and he told me he couldn’t help me and that I needed to speak with the hostess. So I start searching for her …. And found her finally . I asked her whether my table was ready and she literally replied ‘ I cannot really help you now as we had an Electricity issue ‘. When I told her whether I could sit in one of the empty tables, she said ‘ do you want me to start fighting with you ‘. When she saw my frustration ‘ she said : ok you can sit and I will bring you the drink you want’. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I decided to sit down as I had no other choice (I was starving), she brought me my coke and again disappeared …. After 15 minutes waiting for a waiter to bring me the menu…, I went to one of the waiters and he literally started shouting at me telling me that he wasn’t waiting the section where my table was located …. I don’t know how I managed keeping my calm….And he asked me to go and speak with a waiter he showed me from afar …. I went to that guy and he almost ignored me saying that he was overloaded and asked me to wait. That is when I decided to leave this terrible place after 1.5 hours being shouted at at completely ignored . Do not ever go there …. And when I told some friends who regularly go there . They basically said that many of their acquaintances got sick after eating rare medium rare meat there ….. a place to avoid"

"An afternoon at the oldest mountain restaurant in France... Ascending the Mont d’Arbois télécabine on a lovely early Spring afternoon in Megève, we sailed over a wonderfully positioned mountain restaurant and decided it might make for a good late lunch stop. We were not wrong…...On descending the slope to the imposing wooden building, we were greeted by a friendly ski valet who took our skis for us. There was also a fiery red Rebellion Le Mans champion racecar there for good measure! We moved around to the front of the building and were greeted by glorious sunshine and a stunning view of the glistening Alps to the left and a bustling terrace complete with plenty of people watching opportunities, the aroma of lovely dishes being served by bronzed staff in moon boots and funky Ibiza chillout songs being played by a DJ and saxophonist from a booth at the far end of the terrace. It was safe to say we’d made a good choice! I indulged in a mouth-watering tartiflette which could easily have fed two, my companion chose steak tartare which he raved about and our neighbours were devouring Fine de Claire oysters* which they seemed very pleased with. At the top of the terrace there was also a sushi bar for those looking for a lighter choice and for those only interested in liquid refreshments then there are plenty of options too... the champagne was definitely flowing for the table of ladies enjoying a mid-afternoon boogie"

"We read this was under new management but decided to take our chances, since we enjoyed dining on the terrace on sunny days in past seasons. We arrived early without a reservation but they found us a table (best to reserve if you want to sit outside on a sunny afternoon). Service was a bit slow to get going but they were trying really hard. I think some of the staff are same as previous seasons but there seemed to be lots of discussions about who was doing what! No matter, we were enjoying New Year's Day drinks in the sunshine. The buffet lunch spread has gone but there is still a dessert buffet option. The menu is limited but appetising - lobster half and whole, steaks, fish stew of the day etc. Prices are quite steep, but it's a panoramic terrace so to be expected in megeve. The kids can choose between fish, chicken breast and burger (15 euros). And the best news ..... The food was surprisingly good! We tried the monk fish fish stew which came with potato gratin (very good) , half lobster which came with lovely potato purée and some whelks (not a fan, would have preferred more lobster). Kids plates were great - very nicely cooked fresh fillet of fish and frites and a fresh chicken breast with a creamy sauce with lardons which my son loved (welcome departure from the usual nuggets on nearly every Menu in town). It would have been considerate of the kitchen to remove the bones in the child's fish as there were many and I had to do that for my daughter. Also, I would rejoice to see a few vegetables on the children's plates. Main dishes are served with sides but I see there are extra vegetable portions and potato dishes that can be ordered. We were there early so saw a lot of food for other tables pass by and all looked very good - especially the steaks and starter sharing plate. Desserts were a very good deal and I hope they continue with the buffet idea and generous portions! You can buy singly but we chose 3 desserts st 19 Euris to share and they were delicious. So, all in all, this looks very promising and if they build on this, I think it could turn out better than the previous restaurant (I was never a fan of the previous overpriced savoury buffet anyway). We shall be back. Also, there is a separate burger van (monkey diner has migrated up the slopes) at the end of the terrace where you can sit at a few tables and deck chairs. Great idea and seemed to be busy.Interesting to see how this will develop over the season. Good luck! We asked for a card with the new details - there wasn't one?! Might be a good idea....!"
