"my new man and I thought for a bite to eat on Thursday, 11 May, we had traveled from padstow and had stopped on a row of places that were looking for somewhere nice to midday, we had found places that were empty, places without atmosphere, and places that were closed. but when we went to miss feas cafe, we realized that we had found a brand new, wonderful jewel. the service was great, eating was delicious and a real tasty bite (I don't think I ever tasted a better egg mayonnaise baguette in my life, and the creamtee was for fresh bread, fresh eggs, fresh scene to die) and the decoration of the caffe was stunning. thank you for making what seemed like a never-ending hunting after a nice caffe, transforming into a journey of fate. we already look at the smugglers rest as we want to visit them, and mortehoe again very soon."

"We were there for 3 nights and were delighted with the house. Rooms nicely decorated. Beds comfortable. The kitchen is fully equipped and spacious. The living room was charming with a sofa bed which was very comfortable. It's autumn, so there wasn't much to explore, but it was a charming little town, so the walks were very pleasant. Close to shops. Parking 5 minutes from the apartment. A lovely Italian restaurant right next door which served us dinner in a nice Italian atmosphere. Great holiday with the family, so we recommend it."

"We had the best Sunday lunch visit to Martin and Lisa’s at Comyn Farm whilst on holiday in Devon. The food, service and setting were all amazing. We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived and Nelson was guarding our table! Had a great local beer on draught and the food was lovely and one of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had. Nice to hear where it was grown and I am glad I didn’t have breakfast as there was so much! It was clearly a family affair, with everyone involved, which it made it even more special and endearing. Had a final surprise when the bill came and I could believe what value for money the whole experience was. Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good traditional Sunday lunch in an amazing setting with a great family."

"I highly recommend this restaurant. My family and I visited twice during our week-long stay at The Cabin holiday home. The food is fresh, delicious, and of high quality. There is a wide variety of choices available. The prices are reasonable, and the couple who run the restaurant are delightful. Everyone in our family left satisfied with full bellies. The only drawback we noticed was that they often sell out before closing time due to their popularity. However, this is a testament to their success and well-deserved."

"We were staying locally for a week, and ended up eating here three times, once for lunch, once in the evening and finally breakfast. All three meals were very good. The “soft tacos” are effectively fajitas. Salsa, guacamole, spiced chicken with peppers and small-ish tortilla...wraps. They were good, as were the chicken wings good sized portion for the price served with a tasty side salad. The spicy nduja pizza was enjoyable, as was the stroganoff. And the breakfast was smashing good quality ingredients served hot. The key thing the Depot has achieved is to have recruited an enthusiastic, helpful and friendly crew. On each visit they were attentive and always asked if everything was okay. Which it was. It’s a dog friendly establishment, which suited us well as we have one and couldn’t leave him in our holiday accommodation. And I must mention the toilets. I can’t remember having done so in a review before, but they were a pleasure to use. Sparklingly clean. Well supplied. Couldn’t ask for more. I’ve given four stars not five because the menu is limited and it’s not fine dining. But the food and service was very good indeed and good value for money."

"This restaurant is incredible, as always. My family has been dining at The Rock for over 20 years. We made a reservation to celebrate our son's 21st birthday and received attentive service and hospitality with a smile. The portions were generous and the menu had an amazing variety. Thank you once again."

"Again an amazing visit. Right from the gentleman who welcomed us to completing our meal. The 2 ladies waiting on were so lovely not making us feel rushed or insignificant. They chatted freely and made us feel so welcome. The kitchen was a pleasure to..."

"The food selection is extremely limited, so if you have children, it's not worth going. We spent a lot of money and left feeling hungry. I'm sure tapas in London is cheaper than 8 pounds for such small dishes. If you're just looking to have a drink and an olive, then it's fine, but for a family meal, it's hard to find something that everyone will enjoy. Tapas is supposed to be Spanish street food, not priced like a fancy London restaurant. We won't be returning."

"Best restaurant in the village. I always book when my friends and I go surfing/drinking for the weekend. Food is always really good and normally have some very interesting specials. "We arrived at the restaurant to find it quite busy due to a party of 40 people, but we were still served promptly. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and courteous. The price per person ranged from £10-20. Overall, we rated the food, service, and atmosphere a 5 out of 5. Some recommended dishes include the olives, vegetable curry, and lasagna."

"The restaurant offers delicious food, friendly staff, and a cozy atmosphere. I will definitely return for another Sunday Roast. Parking is accessible and convenient. The price range is £10-20 per person. The food is top-notch, service is good, and the atmosphere is pleasant. Highly recommended dishes include the Sunday Roast and Gammon and Chips. There is no shortage of parking spaces available, with the added bonus of free parking."

"I struggle to understand how this place is the 4th best rated restaurant in the Barnstaple area, as based on my visit it is mediocre at best. My feelings are coloured partly by the service which was outwardly friendly but overall fairly average and also by some oddly long wait times. As to the food, it was certainly acceptable , but the pricing is at a level that could best be described as grasping relative to what is offered. Perhaps the Castle Inn will argue their burgers are made in house, but their overly minced texture is far more representative of mass produced or frozen patties. At £16.50 the value of that is questionable despite an abundance of (relatively over cooked) chips. The fish and chips were so-so, the Mac Cheese the relative stand out. And then there is the white bait... five individual white bait on a few undressed salad leaves for £7.75 is a value proposition I would struggle with in a pub paying London rents, let alone out here. Perhaps there are limited options in this area hence the high rating ... but I have a doubt that is the case. Overall I would visit again to sup a pint in the gorgeous public bar, but I couldn 't recommend eating here."
"We left absolutely full, and very happy. My daughter had the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup...they were HUGE, 3 massive pancakes with 2 rashers of bacon, butter and a jug of syrup. She couldn't finish it, although it was so tasty. I had the chicken salad, again a big bowl full generous with the chicken and a nice mixed salad with plenty of tomatoes and peppers etc in it too. Also, an Oreo milkshake and a coffee . The only disappointment was the coffee which I found to be slightly bitter for my taste, but others may be fine with it, just a personal taste/preference thing. Service was quick, and staff friendly. I hope it is busy for them, it's a bit tucked away up in the High Street for a lot of the tourist trade who seem to stay down by the Quay, it's well worthwhile going up to the High Street to visit this place."

"Very disappointed with a visit here for my 60th Birthday. We have been coming to the restaurant for the past 20 years and we have always had great food great service good value. I'm not sure if it is under new ownership but the menu has changed which in itself is fine. The menus on the table were plastic and sticky not a good start. We were sat next to the toilet even though we booked the first server was surly to say the least. Considering our table was for 5.30 surely there was no need to seat us there. The choice of food was disappointing there used to be a banquet meal which was great value but that has gone now. All in all not what i expected for what was a significant birthday treat. I could have spent that £100 and enjoyed the food elsewhere"

"This was the first time that we have dined at The Rock Restaurant, although we have stayed in Woolacombe on many occasions. It was everything that we expected and more. The attentive staff ensured that we had a great evening out. The service was excellent as was the quality of the food and the presentation. We had the Beetroot and Celeriac and Haddock Risotto as starters and both were full of flavour and faultless. For our main courses we had the Venison and Stone Bass and again they could not have been improved, the flavours and accompaniments were perfect. The Viognier that we selected from the decent wine list was a great choice. For desserts we had the Strawberry Trifle and Lemon Curd Cheesecake both of which were delicious. Although it was a wet evening it was great sitting with those views over Combesgate Beach and out to sea. That was the icing on the cake after the superb food, lovely wine and great service."

"Don’t let the proximity to its sister Soft Play venue fool you, this place is epic. Do you remember when coffee shops used to take pride in the presentation and taste of their drinks? Well this place is a hark back to those times, and includes their food too. Not to mention a chilled environment and friendly staff too. Highly recommended on a bike ride as parking can be a pain, though the Tesco car park is a short walk away."

"Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant was disappointing. Despite there being only three other tables occupied and several staff members, it took an hour from the time we sat down at 4:45 to receive our food. The wait between ordering drinks and food was about 30 minutes. Initially, we were told that a topping for my burger was not available and would be substituted, but then we were informed that there were no frickles either. It was frustrating to hear that they had run out of these items when they have access to suppliers and supermarkets nearby. When our burgers finally arrived, my plate was excessively greasy with fingerprints all over it. The burgers were dry and overcooked, to the point where even the kids couldn't eat their cheeseburgers as they were too tough. However, our dogs seemed to enjoy them when we brought them home. It is a real shame, as we were hoping to discover a great burger restaurant in North Devon. I mentioned my disappointment to the waitress as we left, and she agreed that the wait was unacceptable. Despite the issues with the food, the staff were friendly. It seems that a high volume of deliveries from services like Deliveroo and Uber Eats may have been keeping them occupied."

"Visited here with family a couple of weeks ago. We stopped by a few times for drinks during our holiday but only once for food. Had great service and nice friendly atmosphere but unfortunately the visit when we ate was somewhat spoiled. My mother in law has gluten intolerance and asked for the gluten free menu. She ordered the ham egg and chips from the GF menu but unfortunately after the meal she experienced the negative effects of eating gluten and her stomach was upset for several days."

"The Commodore Hotel, Instow, EX39 4JN is situated in an outstanding position in the village of Instow overlooking the coast and Appledore. The Commodore opened originally in 1968 by Bruce Patricia Woolaway, Gary’s parents and later their son Gary became the entrepreneur with the help of his family. Walking up to the Commodore through the grounds is enchanting with views across the beach. On entering the Commodore, Gary stands by the door with a welcoming friendly smile assisting a person to the table or room inside the hotel or outside, nothing is too much trouble for him. Gary is very friendly, good humoured and a Gold Star and such an excellent host with impeccable manners. Inside the Commodore you can feel the ambiance, friendliness and the warmth no other establishment in Instow can match this atmosphere that provides this welcoming feeling. The service is impeccable, all the staff are so friendly and jovial with Gary, the guests, in the restaurant or outside eating – It is such a pleasure to walk through the doors – it is like home. Hence the Commodore is our favourite place in Instow to sit and relax during the week with a lovely cup of fresh tea and whatever is on offer on the menu for that day, Jacket potato, sandwiches, soup, cake, teacake, cream tea, etc. Enjoying the atmosphere, the garden and the lovely scenery or chatting or just pleasantly sitting passing away the time in such an enjoyable charming venue. And on Sunday a person can enjoy the succulent lovely roast lunch. Fabulous place to visit, Gary and his staff will look forward to seeing you, the Commodore is highly recommended you won’t be disappointed."
