"The Commodore Hotel, Instow, EX39 4JN is situated in an outstanding position in the village of Instow overlooking the coast and Appledore. The Commodore opened originally in 1968 by Bruce Patricia Woolaway, Gary’s parents and later their son Gary became the entrepreneur with the help of his family. Walking up to the Commodore through the grounds is enchanting with views across the beach. On entering the Commodore, Gary stands by the door with a welcoming friendly smile assisting a person to the table or room inside the hotel or outside, nothing is too much trouble for him. Gary is very friendly, good humoured and a Gold Star and such an excellent host with impeccable manners. Inside the Commodore you can feel the ambiance, friendliness and the warmth no other establishment in Instow can match this atmosphere that provides this welcoming feeling. The service is impeccable, all the staff are so friendly and jovial with Gary, the guests, in the restaurant or outside eating – It is such a pleasure to walk through the doors – it is like home. Hence the Commodore is our favourite place in Instow to sit and relax during the week with a lovely cup of fresh tea and whatever is on offer on the menu for that day, Jacket potato, sandwiches, soup, cake, teacake, cream tea, etc. Enjoying the atmosphere, the garden and the lovely scenery or chatting or just pleasantly sitting passing away the time in such an enjoyable charming venue. And on Sunday a person can enjoy the succulent lovely roast lunch. Fabulous place to visit, Gary and his staff will look forward to seeing you, the Commodore is highly recommended you won’t be disappointed."

"This used to be my favourite place to eat out. Went there for my birthday there, thinking it was the same, only to be hugely disappointed. New owners now, and the food was not enjoyable. Under cooked chips, burnt burger bun and cheap frozen burgers. Used to be all homemade dishes and amazing there. I miss the old owners!!! Come back."

"After having soggy fish chips a couple of weeks ago, tonight I thought we would give them a 2nd chance and we asked for the fish to be wrapped up separately from the chips, we live less than 5 mins from the shop and tonight they were absolutely disgusting, the chips were all stuck together and full of grease and the fish batter was soggy full of grease. We won’t be going there anymore. Parking: Nothing Service: Take out Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £10–20 Food: 1 Service: 2 Parking options: Free parking lot"

"This ia nice pub in a pleasant village setting and with good car parking, Hopes were high when the new proprietors took over this establishment 12 months ago. The beer was well kept and a new menu with Asian bias was intriguing. The Malaysian chef was keen to make his presence felt, certainly knew his stuff and seemed keen to please. We looked forward to continuing great hospitality at the Ebby A year later, there's been an unfortunate decline. The chef seems to have departed since he has not put in an appearance lately and the standard of food has certainly dropped off although the cost hasn't. Lets hope the proprietor recovers his mojo soon and gets things moving along once again but currently the pub is not great."

"Popped in on the off chance of a table for Sunday lunch and friendly staff advised they could accommodate us later in the day. Lovely cosy pop and very traditional with good selection of drinks available. We decided to eat outside as weather was good and opted for roast chicken and roast pork dinners. Both served piping hot and looked and smelt amazing. Great choice of roasted veg (parsnips and carrot) with lots of crispy roast potoroos and home made Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Both dinners were absolutely delicious. Bar staff, landlord and waiting staff were all very friendly and welcoming. This is a lovely place just outside of town but easily accessible with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. 10/10 and we will certainly recommend to others visiting this lovely town. Didn’t get chance to say thanks to landlord/manager when we left so thanks very much for a lovely meal."

"We booked for my sons birthday and paid a deposit to secure the table. We asked that the a la carte menu would be available as it was a Sunday and were told that it was. Turns out it wasn’t. The manager was extremely rude, and unaccommodating for a diabetic who cannot eat heavy Sunday roasts. The food was a satisfactory roast but nothing to write home about. The mussels were just warm served with stale bread, no butter or fries. In my view highly over rated, we shall not be returning!"

"We had a lovely meal and red wine at SQ. We chose from the specials menu which is always changing and great value. We both had the prawn and monkfish skewer for starters and followed by the fish of the day which was a whole place, lovely see photos . It should be a quiet Wednesday night in the village but the reputation of SQ being so good means that there is always a lovely bustling atmosphere, especially as we like to sit near the immaculate open kitchen. The owners of SQ do not ever serve low quality wine, and they regularly check that the best wine is available but not at a rip off price which is admirable: We are so lucky to have to have SQ in the village and looking forward to the summer, up on the open terrace"
"Love everything here and always served with a smile. Had lovely lockdown takeaways and a half price brekkie today. Our little boy loves your chicken noodle soup, lunch boards and brownies. Great for bringing family to when visiting for an evening meal too. Thanks for our fab brekkie today and sorry for our mistake with the bill lol ???????????????????????????? Donuts ????. It turned out to be so cheap in the end because of the eat out to help out that i then thought we owed you money ???????????? Absolutely yummy thank you.???????????????????? "We only stayed for one night but we absolutely loved this place! Rachel (I hope I got her name right) was incredibly welcoming and friendly. Her customer service was excellent. Amanda is not only a fantastic host but also a talented cook! She is very friendly and takes the time to chat with guests. The dinner we had was freshly prepared and delicious. For breakfast, we had a selection of fruits, cereals, and a cooked breakfast made to order, all of which were delicious. Our room was fantastic - spotlessly clean, with an extremely comfortable bed, and a luxurious shower. Overall, I highly recommend this place for anyone who is looking for a genuine, friendly pub experience. This place is a gem for anyone who appreciates a traditional, down to earth atmosphere."

"I have refrained from writing a review until now in hopes that there would be improvement, but it seems unlikely. My family and friends have been regular patrons at South 16, and we all share the same sentiment - the owners seem to have given up. The food is subpar and poorly prepared in comparison to their competitors, and the inexperienced young girls working at the front of the shop often make mistakes. The prices on the website do not match those in the shop, and after speaking to others who have dined here, the feedback is not positive. Unfortunately, I will also be taking my business elsewhere. If the management is reading this, please reconsider the way you treat your customers. It is unacceptable to be rude and dismissive towards them, especially when mistakes are made with their orders. I was met with aggression and hostility when I raised a concern, and I was the only customer at the time. I will end my review here."

"I visited this evening with some friends for a long overdue catch up. Staff were very welcoming, lovely atmosphere. Very friendly locals. The food was really good, 8 guys all ate well and everyone enjoyed their meals. Clearly, thought has been given to using local suppliers and the menu offered a good selection so everyone was happy. Good selection of beers on tap including the local ale brewed in Ilfracombe Beach Blond. I was offered a sample and over the evening enjoyed a few. So pleased not to be the designated driver. Will definitely be returning soon and happy to recommend to all."

"We only visited to eat, not stay. Food was excellent, the menu was interesting and good value. The only disappointment was being seated in the room furthest from the bar and nearest the kitchen. It meant the ambience was lacking. In addition, it was obvious that my sister has mobility issues as she had crutches,so taking us to a table furthest from the door was not helpful. There were plenty of empty tables elsewhere. Despite the above comment we would still visit the Stag Head Inn again. Service: 5 Location: 5 Hotel highlights: Quiet"

"Lovely cafe close to the beach in the centre of Coombe Martin, right next door to the butchers. Visiting in mid-January we were not expecting anything to be open, maybe a pub and a village shop or two, but not alot else so to find the Harbour Deli Coffee shop being open was a pleasant surprise. A nice cafe serving hot cold meals and snacks, tea, coffee and hot chocolate as well as cold drinks. Sandwiches freshly made whilst you wait. Friendly staff, impeccably clean and nicely spaced out seating and tables, certainly not cramped. Dogs welcome as well, so we sat on a table looking out onto the street. Prices were very reasonable it was certainly very popular too ."

"If you want brilliant service come to Rising Sun. You first go in as customers and leave as friends. The staff can’t do enough for you, make you feel welcome, accommodate the requests of a toddler and engage in conversation they are genuine lovely people. We had delicious Sunday Roasts, then went back everyday since! Ambience is very cosy and warm with good music in the background. Thanks for making our stay so memorable."

"We’ve been coming down to Lynton and Lynmouth for years, eaten in most places and have always wanted to try this lovely tea room and cafe in Lynton, The Picnic Box. Our family of 6 enjoyed their wonderful Traditional Ploughman’s lunch with a selection of meats, local cheese and a slice of homemade quiche (which was delicious , lots of sandwiches and homemade soups catered to the whole family’s taste. Their cakes on the counter kept tempting us throughout lunch, so we had to order a few slices to try out. All homemade and absolutely delicious. We had a freshly made slice of Caramel Shortbread, a cream tea (the scones were so fluffy and light! and a slice of Chocolate Orange cake Mary Berry would be proud of! We will definitely be back, it’s a must stop for lunch in Lynton!"

"Located in the heart of South Molton, this fish and chip shop offers both a takeaway service and indoor dining options. The staff take their culinary responsibilities seriously, as I learned from one employee who shared extensive knowledge on how to select and cook the perfect potatoes for chips. The fish is sourced directly from Plymouth, ensuring freshness with every bite. The batter is just right, not too heavy or greasy, providing the perfect amount of crispness. While they offer a wider menu, I was there for the fish and chips, which were delicious and a delightful find. I will definitely be returning for more."

"What a surprise to find such good quality food in a pub in Braunton at last and even more for such a reasonable price. The menu is fairly short but beautifully balanced. a choice of several starters, five mains and a few sweets. Only the two of us and we both had the chicken chorizo which was exquisite. The chef, Dan, knows how to cook. Other things which we hope to see when next in Braunton are the arancini which we saw and also heard lovely comments about from the next table and the sticky pork. A nice selection of wines, beer straight from the barrel in perfect condition and the prompt service by the landlord, Grant, was friendly, funny and most welcoming. What a gem to find which we are going to visit again when next in the area."
