"We lived in Treorchy for 3 years, always walking past this place and hearing great things, but never actually going in. When visiting recently we decided to finally give it a go. We booked a table for 2 for 7pm and were informed that they had a couple of large groups in at the same time, so there may be a bit of a delay. We didn 't mind. The waiter (who I believe is the owner? chatted to us and asked if we needed recommendations but we knew almost instantly what we were having. My husband went with the sizzling duck and I for the veggie thai green curry. We got a couple of fried rices to go with our dishes you definitely need one each but they are the perfect amount. We also had a mixed starter between us and 2 massive bottles of Heineken. All in all the prices were very reasonable, the food was tasty and fresh and very filling, and the service was friendly and polite. Despite the big groups the restaurant had an intimate, quiet feel and we didn 't actually have to wait long for our food at all. Oh and as a vegetarian, I was really happy to see that pretty much all the dishes had a veggie option! Only 2 small issues: 1, that the menu is quite basic. There 's nothing new or particularly exciting to try on repeat visits, just the 'classics '. But because we are in Treorchy and not in a city, and because the classics are done so well, this is not really an issue. And 2, you can 't pay by card. We weren 't aware of this so my husband had to leave me and run to the cash machine after our meal. Again, this is just a minor complaint to what was a lovely evening."

"My wife and I booked a table at the Cinnamon Tree on Tuesday for the Sunday early evening to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I checked their web site first before booking as the actual date was on the Monday. Finding out that they did not...open on Mondays we opted for the Sunday. I telephoned the restaurant and made the booking. the person on the other end of the telephone repeated my details and time date ect. We turned up at the restaurant to fined it was closed with a sign on the door stating that they did not open on Sundays and Mondays. We got back in the car and went to turn around at the back of the restaurant and I saw a door at the back of the restaurant open. I stopped the car and went to the door and found someone in the kitchen. I told them that I had booked a table for that night and he confirmed what we had found out with the notes on the door. He then telephoned the owners of the restaurant and he put me on the telephone and I spoke to the owners partner and she said they have not been open for several weeks owing to staff shortages. I asked the lady why the booking had been taken as the staff must be aware of when the restaurant is closed or open and I had gone by their web site. She replied we haven't bothered to up date our web site and will not be doing so and have not bothered to blank out Sundays on the book were the reservations are written in and just blamed the person that took the booking in the first place. Her attitude was I couldn't care less. At this point I was boiling as I have used the Cinnamon Tree for many years and have always had a good meal there. But after this episode they can go to hell I will never go there again."

Cafe Cafe

"This is our first visit to Treorchy and we were amazed by the choice of independant shops on the high street (Bute Street) which included the gift shops Sparkilicious and Wonder stuff, Emily Kate boutique, Elegance the clothes shop and CJ Morris the butcher's. Bute...Street is about a mile long with breathtaking views of the mountains and we were lucky enough to park on the high street As well as independent shops there are also the high street favourites such as Boots, Sheppards Pharmacy and Gregg's, as well as lots of cafes and restaurants. We randomly selected Cafe Cafe and we were amazed by the welcome we received. On arrival we provided our contact details for the track and trace system and were shown to our table which was cleaned before we sat down. I ordered the jacket potatoe with beans, my partner had chilli and rice and the baby had chicken nuggets and chips. The service was prompt, the portion sizes were large and the food was delicious and cooked to order. This cafe offers excellent value for money and the coffees are simply stunning (probably the best I have ever tasted). We will definitely be returning to both Cafe Cafe and Treorchy. After eating lunch we continued with our shopping and visited a local park before popping to Dunnings Chip Shop in Pentre for our tea (sausage in batter with chips and gravy which were also excellent value for money and really tasry)."
