"We 'd seen the vegan options online and decided to make a special visit. We arrived at Goathland by train and planned to take a walk. It was already 11am and we knew they finished breakfast at noon, but the menu said you can always ask . We walked up from the station to pop in and ask if they would do us 5 vegan breakfasts later in the day, after our walk. They said you should be fine and that it 's just because they sometimes get busy. I asked if it would be fine or not, because there were five of us and we 'd be heading back, and the lady said it would be. When we got back, we queued for a while. We tried to order, but were told they were too busy. They were quite rude, and offered us beans on toast instead. There was soup and jacket potato with beans on the menu, too, but none of it was particularly inspiring or appealing to our children. We ended up stumbling upon the Coach House at the Mallyan House hotel, which has loads of vegan options clearly marked including vegan cheese for sandwiches, soup, vegan hot chocolate, etc. They had very friendly service and were really helpful in stark contrast to the Goathland Tea Rooms. We 'd been looking forward to making a return visit at the end of the day for vegan scones, but didn 't really feel like it after our lunchtime experience."
