"A gem of a bar in Windermere! My husband and i visited this bar on the last night of our long weekend away. We had a gorgeous Italian sharing platter and cocktails and ended up staying until late and getting more food for dinner! The quality of food and drink is excellent and the relaxed atmosphere and friendly service made our visit all the more enjoyable. It was lovely to sit and enjoy our time there without feeling rushed, hence why we decided to stay for most of oir evening : Would also recommend happy hour from 4:30-6pm. "The restaurant excels in putting a creative spin on traditional Austrian dishes, with high-quality food and drinks. The steaks were cooked perfectly and full of flavor. "We visited Luck Kuh based on a recommendation and were not disappointed. This quirky pub is the smallest in the Lake District and offers many vegan options. We tried the Craftys three cheese garlic dazzle with vegan cheese for £9.00, which was clearly marked as a vegan option. Although we had to wait a long time, it was definitely worth it. The portion was filling, so be warned that you might not need dinner afterwards. The dish was presented on a platter with coleslaw, crispy root vegetables, and a pear, all of which were very tasty. They also serve Whitley Neill gin, which is all vegan (except the rhubarb flavor according to their website, so be sure to check before ordering). The atmosphere and music were great as well! "We wandered here as we didn't know most of the restaurants shut on a Wednesday. What a blessing in disguise, thankfully we popped in early. Staff offered us a table despite us not having a reservation. Whilst throughout the evening, they were turning customers away. There were only two staff members working and the female staff was so polite and friendly. We ordered the salmon, mussels and scallops for our starters. For our main, we ordered the mushroom pasta from the specials menu, the pork dish and the turbot fish dish. Everything exceeded our expectations. The only reason why I held back one star was, my main was on the tiny portion side and tables were compacted and right next to one another. We absolutely loved the complimentary starter and chocolate truffles at the end. The mussels cooked with curry and coconut was very flavoursome too. Scallops didn't seem too fresh, salmon starter was pretty but nothing too special. Would definitely return again one day to try their dessert, we were too stuffed for much else. Any reason for not a full set of stars is, I believe its not a step free access restaurant as there were stairs leading up to the restaurant. "Great experience here. The food was 5 out of 5. Different and contemporary food, the meat was tender and juicy, food presentation was worth what I paid for. The choice of sauce was unique yet tasty. Service 5 out of 5. Very attentive and professional servers I was early for my appointment but they accommodate us without much fuss. Atmosphere was nice and airy, they didn't try to squeeze you in so there is plenty of spaces around you which is nice. Online booking is a huge bonus."

"The food was delicious! I had a quiche Lorraine, while my wife enjoyed a creamy cauliflower cheese soup served with a slice of white bloomer bread. My Earl Grey tea came with a tea strainer and extra hot water, which was a nice touch that I often have to ask for elsewhere. My wife was pleasantly surprised to be offered a free glass of filtered water. Overall, the service was excellent, and the food was delightful. The salad came with a balsamic-style dressing, which was also tasty. We had a great time today, and while the view is nice, it might be even better on a different day. We're definitely planning to return!"

"We have come to expect better in this price range. When asked for the reason for our visit, we mentioned it was for a birthday. A small gesture would have been appreciated. On previous visits, they used to offer handmade chocolates, which was a highlight. The farewell gift of herbal salt was a nice touch. Despite the long journey of over 40 km, we will have to reconsider returning next time."

"The meal we had here for my husband’s 50th birthday was truly outstanding in every way. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel special and both Jonathan and Caroline were extremely welcoming, friendly and attentive. We chose the Potted Shrimp and Smoked Haddock Mousseline as starters, the Rump of Lamb and Pork Fillet for mains and the Chocolate Fondant and “Cheesecake” for dessert all enjoyed with a super Rosé. The food was outstanding and such good value. Highly recommend this fabulous restaurant for any occasion; you will not be disappointed."

"Banilla Bakery offers a great selection of vegan cakes, cookies, bread, scones, savouries and fantastic coffee and tea. The choice of cakes is huge so it's difficult to choose but are all homemade by owner Laura. We've had lime drizzle cake, biscoff cookies, cinnamon rolls, peanut butter cookies, carrot pecan muffin, Mac n cheese, homemade focaccia sandwich with roast vegetables, pesto cheese. All absolutely delicious. A visit to the Lakes wouldn't be the same without a visit to Banilla Bakery. Highly recommended. Updated from previous review on 2021-11-10"

"The food and service at this restaurant were both mediocre. We ordered a fillet steak cooked medium rare, but it was served well done. When we brought this to the attention of the staff, we received a dismissive apology and no offer to fix the mistake or refund the uneaten dish. We also had items missing from another main course we ordered. To make matters worse, we were contacted by the staff on our way home claiming we had underpaid, even though we had already paid the full amount of £115 as shown on the receipt. Despite a message sent via the app apologizing for the billing error and promising to relay our feedback to management, we have not heard anything further after over 24 hours. Overall, the meal was overpriced and the experience was disappointing. We recommend diners to avoid this place."

"Have tried to visit Homeground before but been unable to get a seat, but managed to sit outside today for lunch. The festive vegan option was 'buttermilk ' biscuit with wild mushrooms, sage onion stuffing, fried sage leaves, Jerusalem artichoke puree. They had run out of the biscuit so served it with sourdough made by local bakery More Artisan at Staveley.. It was a magnificent dish, I could not fault it, it was a shame to finish it, totally scrumptious. Revisited for breakfast and had creamed baked oats with pretzel crumb and maple syrup. The most decadent porridge I 've ever eaten it was faultless. Now I know why there is always a queue and why its been so hard to get a seat. Highly recommended. "We are a family of three and spent the summer at Hillthwaite, where we had dinner several times. Our stay, the meals, and the service were all excellent. Since then, we've purchased a holiday home in Windermere, but we will continue to visit the restaurant for dinner because the food and service are simply exceptional. The reception and restaurant staff remembered our first visit and were very warm and welcoming. I would definitely recommend it for a stay, dinner, or both!"

"The five-course meal for £58 at Gilpin Lodge was good value, with perfectly cooked seabass, delicious canapes and lovely little amuse-bouches and palate cleansers. However, on arrival, we were left for an hour before being taken to our table, with no explanation until we made a fuss. It seemed they had no table for us and as we weren't hotel guests, we weren't a priority. We were then offered nothing by way of compensation for the wait. Luckily the food saved the night from being ruined."
