"The food at the restaurant was mediocre and it seemed like there was a lack of communication among the staff. Despite booking a cream tea for 2.30pm on the 30th, I had to remind them about it and was told there was no booking. The cream tea I received was underwhelming with a plain scone, dry jam, butter, and half-frozen cream. When I ordered the Thai Green Chicken curry for dinner on both nights, it was not what I expected. I raised this issue with the restaurant manager, who apologized and admitted that the chef should change the menu daily. Additionally, the Eton mess we ordered lacked meringue and consisted only of cream and frozen fruit. Overall, the food quality was disappointing compared to our previous stays at the hotel."

"The food was not to the standard we expected, we had to wait for over an hour and when it turned up 2 out of the 3 dishes was terrible with things missing as per menu. The service was terrible as we could tell that they were avoiding us and even when we called the waiters they took long to come! We had a 25% discount without asking and we chose not to pay for the voluntary service charge of 12.5% I would not be recommending this place"

"The experience at this restaurant was disappointing. The staff, who seemed overwhelmed, cleared tables around us while we were still eating our meal that we had ordered by 8:45pm on a Saturday night. Our drinks were brought to us late and the restaurant was still being cleaned. The salads we ordered were full of lettuce but lacked any dressing. Surprisingly, there were no pizzas on the menu despite it being a big part of the restaurant's offering. Overall, it was a regrettable dining experience. We would have been better off grabbing a quick snack at a nearby convenience store."

"We discovered this bistro by chance and we are so happy that we did! The outdoor seating with a view of the river was lovely, with ample space between tables. The menu had plenty of options to choose from, but we ultimately decided on the mussels, which were excellent. The staff was very attentive and the service was very prompt. We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend this restaurant. Service: Dine-in."

"This restaurant is always bustling, but we were fortunate to find a table. We thoroughly enjoyed our brunch here. The Eggs Florentine were exceptional, with perfectly cooked yolks and a generous helping of hollandaise sauce atop a muffin. The sourdough bread, coffee, and service were all top-notch. Our overall rating for service, food, and atmosphere is a solid 5. We highly recommend trying the Belta Brekkie. The price range is between £10-£20 per person."

"a venerable service, avoid. long waiting times and poor service. I had a terrible experience during the covid with ridiculously long wait for every service and it repeated on Sunday. it took 30 minutes to get any drinks, with slow, unenchanted service and an hour in our table we had no food on the table including the breadboard starter! unfortunately we decided to cancel our order and go and finally cook ourselves a roast home. there were a series of employees who were just talking around, while many tables were waiting for an obvious sign of worse training! we were a table of 6, which would have come to a healthy bill at the end. the waiter did not seem to be worried that we decided to go, and not even come to the table to apologize for our experience. I am incredibly disappointed that this pub has failed to conquer any type of service or training for its employees, and it is a real shame as it could be a beautiful land pub with good eating. sad I will not return to this pub again. for the money they charge, it should be at least decent service. very disappointed and a waste of my Sunday afternoon afternoon."

"Very central so ideally placed for most of the attractions. A spot of loose tiling and some early signs of mould in the bathroom slightly take away from the overall impression but all in all it was reasonably decent. Read reviews about food being mediocre but it was actually pretty good and the breakfast in particular was notable. Staff were warm and friendly. I'd have no issues staying there again."

"I booked a late lunch for my husband’s birthday using Open Table. Beforehand I notified the restaurant or the occasion and asked if there was anything special that could be done. Upon arrival we had the most wonderful window table and a little sign saying ’happy birthday’ once we sat a complimentary beer was handed to my husband which was very kind. The food was incredible. My seafood chowder was delicious immense and honestly the most delicious dish I have eaten in any restaurant. My husband has fish and chips which was huge, fresh and delicious too. Whilst we are we watched a seal play in the harbour sharing a very nice bottle of wine. Once we finished our food, the staff played happy birthday and brought out some cake for my husband. The Lookout definitely went over and above to make the occasion extra special and we both feel incredibly blessed for the service and kindness from the staff. Plus the meal itself left us in a very happy food comatose state for the rest of the day. Thank you so much The Lookout, we can’t wait to return and you definitely ‘made’ my husband’s birthday."

"inside is dark and a bit dated. outside has a wonderful view of the river. the service was not very good with the staff a bit glued on! we were a party of 6 with a small child and had a table when 5. the staff was a bit unpleasant to tell us that we booked for 5 and now need 6 chairs! could offer us a high chair without the fuss! we have expressed the desire to sit outside, as they cannot book a table there to say very rude that there are no tables! total was eating moderate, but the service was not great, so will not be visited again.. many places around the river to explore"

"We had a delightful festive experience, enhanced by the visit from Santa, which was wonderful for our little girl. The meal was enjoyable, and the staff were friendly with a good variety of menu options. However, the only downside was that the tables were quite small and we felt very cramped, especially as we were seated near large groups. The waitress had a bit of trouble serving us comfortably, and accessing the restroom felt challenging. My husband, who is 6 feet 5 inches tall, felt quite uncomfortable as the table was low, making it difficult for him to fit his legs underneath. Despite these issues, I understand it was an exceptionally busy Sunday due to Santa's appearance, and we still had a lovely time overall."

"We booked Sunday lunch on the way to Yorkshire. Unfortunately we were shown to a room that was freezing cold and remained that way. Other's arrived and kept coats on and were as cold as we were as no heating was on. The meal was tasty but basic and soon went cold which rendered it unappetising before long. Some plates were delivered steaming hot but ours was not! Shame about this on a sunny warm day but the lack of heating made us feel unwelcome."

"We arrived for our reservation on time, but ended up waiting at the door for 20 minutes. Eventually, we were seated at our table (3 adults and 1 child) and waited an extended period to place our order. When we tried to order roast dinners (since it was a Sunday), we were informed that they had already sold out by 3pm. We attempted to order off the main menu, but my desired option was also sold out. It was clear that the restaurant staff were overwhelmed and it seemed that there were deficiencies in management, as there was a lack of communication with customers, insufficient staff, and limited food availability."

"beautiful decoration, very poor and super slow service. there is a separate vegan menu that is great. I chose the vegan burger. it was a small part of what tasted like falafel. it should be roasted aubergine, spinach and harissa burger served in a rustic roll with red pfeffer cumin purée, carburized earlylings onions, red chili and a kale flower charcoal cousin salat the rustic roll was too small and crusty. this burger is not served with chips as the fleischburgers are. after much ado I could order a side of sweet potatoes. the desserts were a disappointment. one was disguised from the menu and the pecan I had ordered had to be returned as it came with ice cream instead of sorbet as a menu. When it came back, I needed two hands on my spoon to break in it!"
