"I had booked a table here for me, my mam and my pregnant sister after reading the menu online and the reviews, which seemed generally positive. When we arrived we were seated and ordered a bottle of sparking water. We were giving the lunch time menu even though it was half five. They don 't start the evening menu until 7pm. I had not viewed the lunch time menu online and I can 't recall there actually being an option to view the lunch time menu? I may be wrong on this account but I can 't remember seeing it. Unfortunately nearly every item on the lunch time menus contained cheese which my sister is currently unable to eat. My sister asked if she could see the night time menu instead and the waitress answered 'no, it 's lunch menu until 7 ' immediately without checking with anyone. My mam then asked what was in the special pasta and the description we got was 'pasta with zucchini in it ' and we had to seek further clarification about what sauce it was in, if any other meat or fish or vegetables were in it etc etc. Not really the best description! We decided to pay for our water and leave as there was nothing suitable on the menu for my sister and no soft drinks besides the normal high sugar fizzy drinks and water were available. I would have liked to think a Winery may have got one or two non alcoholic wines in but alas, no! The waitress brought our bill and at this point the manager came over nd said that he had spoken with the chef and we could choose from the evening menu. Unfortunately this was too little, too late as we had already agreed to leave. If the waitress had said she would ask or check with the chef initially, then we would have probably stayed but as we were just immediately told no, we saw no point in staying. I can not comment on the quality of the food but I think the service definitely left something to be desired and the very limited lunch menu should have a few more dishes added without cheese and it should be made clear that evening service does not begin until after 7pm."

"I feel a bit bad about writing this, but for the first time ever there 's only 1 star and probably the longest comments I 've left. We arrived around 12:15 on a September Thursday after having a walk hungry, we fancied a pub lunch. Staff were pleasant if a bit rushed the young lady behind the bar was on her own and doing the best she could. Several things were off the menu, but we ordered a Curry of the day (Thai Green on this occasion) and sausage mash with gravy. Difficult things to screw up... After a reasonable wait, two small dishes appeared. The Thai Curry was tiny, containing a few small bits of grilled chicken in a fairly anaemic sauce, with a small amount of plain white rice on the side; the two sausages were quite small and on a small bed of mash surrounded by gravy. Both dishes were stone cold. We sent them back. Frankly, if we hadn 't paid in advance, I 'd have left at that point. A few minutes later they re appeared, along with a small dish of sweet chilli sauce and 3 small prawn crackers, two of which were not properly cooked (still solid in parts, i.e. not cooked hot or long enough). The sausages were now hot, the mash lukewarm and the gravy cloying and still pretty cold. Being fair, the very small sausages were quite tasty, but the mash was under/not seasoned and the gravy had little flavour, no onion or anything even vaguely interesting, and was still cold. The curry was a disgrace. The rice was flaccid and tasteless, the curry had almost no flavour and the chicken was watery, and pretty grim (tasteless too). Tiny portion as well. We left the curry. I did eat the sausage mash as I was really hungry, but in retrospect wished I hadn 't. I almost never leave food anywhere in the world, but I left that curry. I 'm not sure how dishes that bad could be let out of any kitchen. We complained to the waitress (who was doing her best) she asked us not to leave and a minute or two later refunded our main courses with an apology. I felt for her as she was doing her best as front of house when the kitchen was a shocker. Note that we didn 't ask for a refund or even hint, they just provided it. I 've never asked for a refund. It 's sad, as these days rural pubs need to do things right, but this wasn 't just small things; everything they could have done wrong with those two dishes they did wrong. Nothing cooked from fresh, nothing checked before leaving the kitchen, tasteless food, tiny portions, cold."

"A village pub is the beating heart of a traditional English village and The Somerset Wagon is a truly sublime example of that. Dan and James have transformed the pub in the 18 months they have been there, ably assisted by Zita and the ladies. The right mix of a drinkers pub and good quality home cooked food proves the key ingredients that make the place magical. Add in the Bingo, Quiz, weekly draws and good conversation it really does tick all the boxes. It is often full to bursting on a late weekday weekend evening with people eating and drinking and enjoying the merriment. That says it all! An extensive menu with a very large number of Gluten Free dishes makes it a great place for all to enjoy. Crystal clear award winning real ales as well as great larger and wines is the icing on top. Be sure to visit! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Sunday Roast, Steak, Florentine Fishcakes"

"Had my birthday meal here last night there was 9 of us, the food was outstanding, so fresh and tasty not 1 complaint from anyone, lots of empty plates from starters to main courses, food has been brilliant anytime we have came here, had a lovely strawberry daiquiri which I loved, only 1 issue and that was the length of time we had to wait on food coming and drinks, only 2 lovely boys working the floor/bar and we did have to wait a considerable amount of time for drinks, and quite some time from the kitchen from the time we had starter till main course, cannot fault the staff at all as they were doing their best but maybe a little more staff in as there was a good few tables full for meals. Still 5 tho as everything was lovely and yes the embarrassing bringing out of the birthday cake and singing to me as well happened. Xxx"

"My husband, son and 2 daughters and I came for dinner at The Granary on July 17th. My son had really wanted to try Haggis and our Airbnb was just minutes away. We liked the atmosphere and the location and the menu had lots of options. Service was a little inconsistent we were given menus by one person; the orders were taken by a server; and the food was brought by other servers . I ordered a non alcoholic Menebrea Italian beer (0.0% from one waiter and was brought a 4.8% Menebrea (by a different person who did not take the order . Glad I checked! He took the beer away and brought the correct non alcoholic Menebrea. We ordered lots of items off the menu (Soup, Haggis Bon Bons, Haggis Neeps and Tatties, Pretzel Chicken Club, Granary Burger and fries, Caesar Salad with Chicken, Harissa Cauliflower. My husband had two Innis and Gunn IPA's, and we also ordered Short Mill Bay Chardonnay and Ginger Beer. I mentioned to the server clearing that it was all very good except that my Burger and Fries were very lukewarm when they were brought to the table. That part was disappointing but I just didn't want to delay things by asking for it to be rectified."

"We had left Dolly's Tea Rooms across the road as we were very disappointed in them (see review that I left! We only noticed Zest Café Lounge as we were driving away, and decided to call in. How lovely! Very attentive waitresses and good snack type menu choices. The table was cleaned as soon as we sat down although we were told it had been cleaned already. Didn't have to wait long for our drinks and food. Everything was very fresh, and really tasty. Thoroughly enjoyed eating at this friendly little cafe. Well definitely be back!"

"If you find yourself in Monmouth, make sure to check out Salt and Pepper. Not only do they have a fantastic selection of kitchenware, but they also have a charming dog-friendly café. The staff is friendly, they offer gluten-free cake, and their coffee cream tea is delicious. Show your support for amazing independent businesses like this one if you can."

"There is a lot of love in the food at this restaurant! The dishes are always delicious every time we visit. It reminds me of my home in Lithuania, as the flavors are quite similar. I highly recommend it for its reasonable prices and the new employees who are very passionate and enthusiastic. It is a lovely place and I will definitely be returning!"

"Overall, we had a disappointing family meal at the local restaurant. We booked for a table of 12 for my mum's birthday. We were the only table when we arrived. Another table of 2 arrived during our main course. There was a friendly informal server when we arrived though I got the impression he was not a formal waiter as he did not know much about the menu. He also disappeared after a short time. After this time, we were served by one of the kitchen staff. Obviously, this led to inadequate and slow service. The meals were served very slowly. We had no option to order more drinks throughout the meal. Our main course plates were not taken away after we finished and after waiting for a while we decided just to leave and get deserts at home. Some comments about the food. We were told when we first arrived that there were no steaks. That reduced our options considerably. However, what surprised us was one of the diners at the other table was served a steak! We were told that they do not have tomato sauce. This is highly unusual for a restaurant that serves steak, burgers and chicken tenders with chips. One of our party member nipped down the road to a local shop and bought a bottle ketchup for the table. The food was okay but we felt it was very one dimensional. A lot of the dishes were served in a similar manner with the same dressings and toppings. The chips were a little greasy. I would have wished that our experience was better but unfortunately it wasn't so. I understand how difficult it must be for the restaurant trade just now and we try and support local businesses. However, we would still expecting decent service and food. I tried to message the restaurant in the first instance for a response but have not received any reply."

"What an experience, I don't recommend anyone to go there, the restaurant itself was lovely, the owner had some unbelievable faults in him, he doesn't know how to work at all, while we were talking to him he was walking away from us, he came to She ordered us while we were telling her what we wanted, he went to the kitchen, we asked for 2 beers, we were not told which beer it was, he brought it without telling her that I wanted Peroni, I don't like the one, and he also had others for sure, and let's not talk about the price, for 4 people we paid £150, 2 chips, 1 cold plate for 2 people with zacusca, string beans and eggplant salad, and 1 mix grill for 2 people, 4 desserts, 3 beers and 2 waters, mix grill £45 : !! 2 small 2 heads, 2 pieces of lamb, and a small piece of beef!! The food is mostly good but not too much!! The owner's nausea and vomiting leave much to be desired!"

"I usually don't have time to write online reviews, but The Craighaar Hotel Restaurant definitely deserves one. The staff was friendly and attentive, the food portions were generous, and the menu catered to our dietary needs. The meals were delicious and the restaurant had a lovely interior. Despite some older parts of the hotel, we enjoyed a quiet drink in the cozy lounge bar after dinner. We will definitely be returning!"
