"Me and my husband called into this quirky little bar/restaurant whilst away for the night in Howarth. We arrived at 6.30pm for drinks we sat in two comfy seats facing a fireplace. The food looked lovely so we decided to enquire about a table to be told they were taking no more table bookings or food orders. We were really confused as it was only 7pm there were tables available and we knew they were serving food until 9pm. However we decided to have one more drink and move on. As we were finishing our drinks a gentleman came in it was clear he was a local and well known to staff and to customers already eating. The gentleman was seated given the drinks menu and then asked if he was eating. We couldn't believe our ears he was then given a menu as he decided he was eating. It was clear that if you wasn't local you was treated very different. Being a business owner myself i don't want my restaurant to be booked out with locals all the time i welcome people from outside the area as well as our locals and always make sure they are treated like royalty. If i found out a member of my staff had turned somebody away when we one we have tables available and two it is only 7pm and we serve food until 9pm that member of staff would not have a job the next day. When we left the bar there was plenty of empty tables and feel we could have easily be accommodated. Unfortunately the staff were not for accommodating is but was very happy making sure the locals were ok. Sadly really disappointed as it is such a lovely place and the food did look amazing. "Extremely bad service, we booked a table for Valentine's Day, after arriving, we were waiting at the door for 5 mins before anyone even came to greet us. Then even though a table was booked, we were placed downstairs next to the toilet as a couple were waiting upstairs in the bar for a upstairs table. So don't expect a proper table even with a booking, walk in customers will come as priority (they charged a fee over the phone too after a booking was confirmed by the website . Being upset, we asked for an upstairs table, they said a couple was having desert so a table should be ready in 15 mins. Guess what, 45 mins later we were still downstairs. Finally when we moved up, so many tables were already empty! Not sure what they were doing or thinking. Now it's already 1 hour 15 mins after our original booking time, obviously we were starving. Instead of taking our orders straight away, they waited another good 15 mins while chasing the bill for our table next door and other things, after I specifically told them we were ready to order. Anyway, food finally came and then they forgot about our water... After complaining an Indian gentleman (manager? came and gave us water. In the end, I just felt that the waitress was giving us an attitude as our next door table was also hinting that the service was slow, she apologized to them but did not say anything to us. She did not bring our water the second time and again the Indian gentleman topped up the water for us. Food is OK, I was impressed by the 1st course but my second course was very disappointing, very small and with cold vegetables. Dessert was average. In the end, I was very tempted to ask to have the service charge removed, but thought it was too big a fuss. Then something hilarious happened. After we paid I was just typing on my phone, our waitress came back and gave us the Valentine's Day chocolate! Oh, I forgot to mention, every table got those chocolate when the bill came, only us didn't get them until after like 10 mins we pay. Very interesting to treat your customers differently like this!"
