"Things didn't get off to a great start when we arrived there was no one on reception. A member of staff then came to reception and faffed about a bit, ignoring us. That person went away and another came over looking a bit flustered. Then the maitre d arrived. We were a bit early (about 19 15 for a 19 30 booking) so I asked if this was ok, which it was, although it felt a bit like he was doing us a favour (the restaurant was about 35% full at that time). He showed us to our table (a bit out of the way, around a corner but fine). The menus gave a poor impression very tired looking with stains on them (ditto the food menu in the room). Not a good look at all. After allowing what would be a reasonable time for the waiter to come, I started the old hand half up and down, waving to try to attract attention to the waiters but to no avail. After another few minutes, I got up and went to the reception, where the maitre d was chatting to someone. As i stood there, he continued his conversation, finishing it off before acknowledging me and asking if I was ok. i said not really as we were being ignored and could we get some service please. Of course. Back to our table. Shortly after that, a waitress appeared and said in a clipped voice (verging on the aggressive) You want service . I said that yes, we did. What do you want . I resisted the temptation to walk out and politely defused the situation but the tone was set. I ordered a gin and tonic, which came in a surprisingly small glass given the current vogue for fishbowl type glasses. Felt quite disappointing. We ordered bread and olives and the scallops to start followed by the sharing steak and a bottle of Pomerol. Things were looking up as the scallops were excellent, the bread and olives weren't bad and the wine was excellent. The couple on the next table then complained about the length of time their dessert was taking to come."

"My disabled wife and I, oh yes and our cat, having been driving our motorhome for a few hours just happened across the lovely looking place, with a large flat car park. We pulled in on spec for a drink and as us motorhomers do, ask about staying overnight. We fully understand and respect either a yes or no. I opened the do of our van, for some unknown reason our cat decided she would jump out first, something she has never done before, and without hesitation headed straight into the bramble bushes next to where we had parked. This cat as any animal lover can understand is our soul mate. Straight away we tried to call, offer treats etc, but not a sound or sight. Anyway I wandered over to the bar area leaving my wife by the vehicle calling the cat. Firstly I bought two drinks, then asked the chap behind the bar about staying overnight. No came straight back, it's an insurance thing. Fair enough, oh but our cat has just gone missing so we may be here a while. Back to the van with the drinks, by now my tearful wife was getting more distressed. So I, we wandered back and forth, around this field area calling, shaking treats, still nothing. One or two walkers were very helpful in taking our number incase they saw her, suggested reporting it to the local vet as she is chipped, which we did. My wife's mantra had become we're not going anywhere without her. Good hour later, I went back into the bar to buy another drink. Different person said if it was up to them, we could stay, obviously them knowing the cat was still missing. Back to the van. So I began walking further afield, leaving my wife at the van. I was gone a good hour when my wife phoned to say the cat had returned. Overjoyed. Back to the van. Now here's the reason for the review. Whilst I'd been away, a person presumably the landlord had spoken to my wife and threatened that as we had been in the car park for more than 3 hours the pubs open all day) he would be calling the police and get us clamped unless we moved within the next half hour. My wife was in tears. I will say fortunately for him the cat returned, because otherwise he could have started ww3 so far as I'm concerned, but we we would have stayed put. Thank you The Sun ,Lydiard for your understanding and compassion. Whether or not this review puts any of your prospective new customers off, I don't care. WE WON'T BE BACK"

"I had been out for a lovely walk in the area and whilst staying over close by one of the locals when having a coffee recommended this little place to try . So as i like to try new places why not. And i can say i wasnt disappointed. From first seeing the place from the outside it was lovely and seemed very inviting. Lovely seating area . Walking in it was tastefully decorated and modern . Areas inside seemed warm and inviting. Found a lovely little corner with my friends and decided to have a drink first while scouring the menu. Bar staff very friendly and chatty on arrival which made it seem like a very friendly place. Seemed very knowledgeable about the area and advised of other places to try . So decided on a drink and a scour of the menu. They didnt disappoint . Seemed to have a good menu choice and catered for all of our party including veggie options. Once meal arrived the food looked well presented and inviting. Smelt and tasted delicious. Staff checking if everything was ok was a nice touch too. No problems with out meal. I myself decided on Katsu Curry and it was delicious. Great portion sizes and not one complaint between us . Defo a winner in my book. Bar Manager seemed very friendly and approachable when passing asking if everything was ok. On leaving we had nothing but good reports about the place. Next day we again went back for the Sunday lunch and again not disappointed. Very friendly staff again, delicious sunday roast and a lovely cozy atmosphere to boot. This is defo going to be a new place to frequent on visits to Boweness. SO big massive shout out to this place and the team fab job ! one happy customer and i will be spreading the words to other colleagues of mine who work within the hospital and mention what a hidden gem this place is. Thanks Again Charli"
