"My partner made a reservation at this restaurant before we went to see Christmas lights at the local garden center and wanted to have dinner beforehand. The restaurant appeared to be cozy and inviting, but unfortunately, the service was very disappointing. We were seated and asked for our drink order right away, which is standard, but then, within 3 minutes, a waitress approached us to see if we were ready to order food. With a 1-year-old child in tow, it took us some time to get settled and look at the menu. I requested 5 more minutes to decide, but the waitress passed by our table 3 times without coming back to take our order. After waiting for 25 minutes (and with a tight schedule due to the Christmas lights booking), I had to get up to find someone to take our order. When our food finally arrived, it was underwhelming and didn't justify the high prices on the menu. I ordered the curry, which was overly spicy and the chicken seemed to be frozen. My partner's steak, ordered medium rare, was closer to rare and didn't meet expectations given the high price. The only redeeming factor was the decent chips. I'm not from the area, but I wouldn't consider revisiting if we attend the Christmas lights again next year. Food: 2 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3"

"Moved to Holmbridge 3 years ago from Essex but have stayed at the Foxglove over the past 10+ years when visiting our daughter who went to Huddersfield University and is now teaching music at Holmfirth High School. If anyone visiting Huddersfield or the surrounding areas we would recommend not only the Foxglove as somewhere to stay overnight at in their great accommodation rooms but also to eat at in the evenings. Service is top class and very friendly. Food cannot be faulted which is why we always give a good tip at the end of our meal. Very good value for money and we love the open fire at this time of year (Oct) and forwards through into the New Year. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed and you will be back for more."

"I visited the Calverley Arms for Sunday lunch with a friend. I've dined here several times before and noticed a noticeable improvement in the quality of the dishes this time. As usual for a Sunday, the restaurant was quite busy, so I recommend making a reservation. Our waitress was attentive and patient, and we both enjoyed a main course and dessert, along with two bottles of wine. The total bill came to just over £70. Despite the busy atmosphere, the staff never made us feel rushed to leave, which is often the case in other places. I will definitely continue to return to the Calverley Arms."

"the sirloin steak ordered in the opposite to the rump, as the ribeye was not available. the meal came, well presented, but I think the steak was rump, it was hard like old boots also with a steak knife. my wife had the surf and turf, and the sirloin was in the ground unthinkable, my dog had to fight. the waitress got the manager to give us a free coffee, but at £16.99 for the meat it was a token gesture. trip advisor gave him Rave reports for their food however. once again, if they want a good steak, they go into a steakhouse"

"A fantastic stop between Loughborough and Nottingham! I opted for the A roads instead of the motorway and, feeling a bit hungry, I decided to pop into The Otter on a whim. "The Boat Inn is a lovely venue even on a cold wet December evening in the week before christmas and looked promising when we arrived at 7:30 pm the time I had chosen when making a booking through this web site the evening before. I was surprised that I needed to register my car but this process and the fact you need to do it was clear and straight forward. We were greated in a warm and friendly way and were expected, the place was busy but not packed, we had quite a small table where staff or other quests had to squeze past making it a bit uncomfortable especially when a biger table not in the throughfare remined empty through out our stay. It soon became apparent however that all was not well when other guests were asking where their meals or drinks were. We also had to remind the 2 serving staff that we had not received our drinks 20 minutes after placing the order. Our food did take quite a while to come, especialy the main course but apart from luke warm onion rings it was most enjoyable. This seems such a shame for such a great venue as when you look at comments on this web site from 12 months ago the problems appear to be the same even down to the cold onion rings ! I would go back to the Boat Inn especially in the summer but I would hope not to experiance the same problems again."

"Service severely lacking! Popped in yesterday Saturday afternoon around 2.30ish) so not overly busy had no issues at being told bar only area, really not a problem. As ordering at the bar not an issue. Ordered food, drinks, starters arrived, mackerel pate was fine, lamb kofta, husband said was ok but cold... hadn't really finished when mains arrived, oh I said that's quick.. response was, oh forgot you had starters.... asked for vinger not a hard request) still waiting !!!!!! No check back, nothing. Not even when I went to get more drinks literally sitting in front of the bar. So just shy of £100. For 2. Plates were still sitting there when we left, after having finished our meal a good 40 mins earlier. Food was ok. But service seriously lacking. Won't rush back... Shame used to be. better"

I would go back to the boat inn especially in the summer, but I would hope not to experience the same problems again."

"1st time there but my friend has been a few times. We got the Xmas feast 3 courses and weren't disappointed though parsnips could be cooked a little longer . The Turkey which I don't usually have was so moist it melted in your mouth. Try the Scallops and Prawn the jus was so tasty especially when I pinched 1 of my friend's finger toast . The Xmas pudding and sauce was perfect to finish off and they gave enough time to let you digest each course. Teresa our server was so friendly and funny. It made my experience even better. I bought 2 extra Turkey dinners to take away and the recipients said they really liked them. So well done to the Chef and team. I live too far away now.but next time I'm up visiting my friend we'll be back. Sorry no photo of the scallops and prawns or mushrooms."

"was already at many places on this place and eating is always great. the service on Sunday was bad. 3 of us asked for the trio roast (turkey, rinderpork) to say that the truthahn was sold out (on Sunday at 3:30 o'clock). we asked for lamb or something else to replace it, but you said the whole dish was from the menu and we were not allowed 2 meats or a substitute. So two of us ordered bark, I ordered the lamb. the size of the lamb in comparison to the bark was actually funny my 2 friends laughing about the size of the meat part special (the rest, veg, kartoffeln etc were good). When we called the waitress, she went to the manager. the manager turned to the table and grabbed her cheeks, I said I should come here? she could not be less interested in this fiasko and had no interest in understanding the situation. essentially what it is. we ate what we had and wore. it's a shame. the atmosphere quality of eating was great. the service was quite poor. if I had let the people come back before, I would not have done it now."

"The waitress was AMAZING. I think her name was Lucy as that was what was on the receipt. She was a short young lady with a nose ring and a badge that said In Training. she was super helpful letting us know about vegan alternatives, discount options in the app, and even suggesting food to try. Please clone her and have her in all of your restaurants. the only think i would say is the layout of the restaurant isn't great. i would prefer it if the tables were a little more private. maybe had some highbacked booths on offer or something like that. Other than that i would deffo go back again even just to thank Lucy for her excellent smily, warm service."

"What an amazing change. Not just the recent refurbishment which has made the whole place look bright and modern but the food was most excellent. We had not visited The Vine for a very long time and our last visits had not been good. So when looking for a place to take my elder mother in law for lunch we decided to give it another try. We went for the set lunch menus and the portions were not only more than ample but the food, including fish and chips alongside a chicken dish were excellent. Good portions, very hot, just cooked and really tasty. Thick pieces of fish and crunchy batter. My chicken breast was a good size and in a really tasty sauce. We followed it with mini puds and a hot drink. Lovely. We had the mini crumbles and custard. They were certainly not mini but they were the tastiest crumbles we had had for a good while. We loved that you could taste the sharpness of the fruit against the crumbly mixture. Joy. Can I also say I observed other customers food coming through and it all looked really ample in portion and of a very positive quality. So much so it made us say we will certainly visit again very soon. All of the staff we had contact with were pleasant and friendly. We could find no fault Strongly recommend"

"Our dining experience at this restaurant was not great. The place was cold when we arrived, and we had to wait a long time for our starters. My nachos were cold and the tortillas were all broken. "First of all, there was only one poor girl front of house, Lianne, serving drinks, making coffee, taking food orders and serving table, and she did it brilliantly. We had booked a table, and ordered drinks, but still had a fair wait for food. I ordered the gammon and eggs, and a mountain of peas, and apart from a small ramekin of chips it was good. My wife ordered the Chicken Penang curry, which consisted of five strips of chicken, a solid fusion of rice, and lots of beans. As a side she ordered a ramekin of chips at £2.95. What a rip off!!! Our daughter ordered the Steak, chips and bearnaise sauce £20.20p. to be cooked medium rare which, was cold and over cooked. It was subsequently sent back. By the time the replacement steak had arrived my wife and I had nearly finished our meals and our daughter had lost her appetite!! In conclusion I would suggest that this establishment needs a good shake up, the food is definitely overpriced for a pub meal, and I would recommend anyone considering a meal in this pub to give it a wide berth."

"I met up with two friends at the restaurant and had a wonderful time catching up over food and drinks. Everything surpassed our expectations. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and the excellent service provided by the staff. The restaurant even offers a free salad bar if you order a main course, although the portions are already quite generous. "We arrived at the restaurant as a group of 4, but 2 people had to leave before ordering. Despite this, the staff were attentive and allowed us to stay at our original table. I tried the vegan chilli and found it very enjoyable, even though I'm not a vegan - I just wanted something different. My mother ordered the gammon and liked it, but felt there was a bit too much fat on it. It would have been nice to have a lasagne option on the menu. The salad bar and having the staff serve you was a great touch. It allowed me to be more selective in choosing what I wanted and I didn't overfill my bowl, so there was no waste. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff were attentive but not pushy, even though it was busy with families on the last day of half term. The restaurant seemed to excel in customer service and making guests feel comfortable. The lack of menu options won't stop us from returning for our next visit. Can't wait! ????"

"We came here today for the first time and loved it! It's a hot day and the place was rammed when we arrived. We ordered food and were advised it would be 45 minutes and it was .. but it was worth the wait! Lobster and Prawn cocktail followed by Chicken Caesar salad and a freshly made southern fried chicken salad. The staff are non stop and under pressure yet still smiling! Dog friendly just made it perfect. Thanks"
