"Wow. What an experience. We were really looking forward to a meal out and we’re staying in the hotel next door. We entered and it took around 5 minutes for someone to seat us despite it being quiet with lots of members of staff on. We waited a relatively long time for someone to take our order but we were fine with the wait. However, 30 minutes passed and we were still waiting. Our starters then arrived, calamari with no dip or garnish so we asked for some dressing. The garlic bread starter was noticeably burnt and we were still waiting for a dough balls. The dough balls arrived around 10 minutes later and were completely cold. I politely went to the counter with the burnt garlic bread and cold dough balls and asked if they could be redone. I was told to wait a minute. I then returned to the table and when a (this time undercooked) garlic bread arrived I asked for the manager as our drinks still hadn’t arrived. The manager came over and I explained why I was unhappy. The manager didn’t apologise, she simply said ‘what do you want me to do?’ to which I was quite honestly shocked. The manager then walks off claiming she was checking what time we ordered our drinks. She returned to the table with quite honestly an attitude and said ‘I have taken the drinks and starters off your bill, do you want your mains?’. Still no apology. I calmly said to the manager ‘do you even care about my complaint’ to which she responded ‘I am 8 months pregnant and you have scared me, I’m so intimidated and feel threatened by you swearing and shouting at me, I am shaking’ to which I simply did not do. My partner asked if she needed an ambulance quite rightly not needed but with the lack of respect we had been shown, we were clearly upset and I personally was extremely hurt and upset by her accusing of threatening behaviour which simply didn’t happen. The manager then snatched my drink from my hand and told me aggressively to ‘get out’. I am so devastated by my experience, I have personally recently had issues conceiving and was truly hurt by the ‘playing the victim’ card with the 8 months pregnant comment. Aside from this I would never ever threaten or intimidate anyone and I am so upset by the experience. We travel to London a lot for work and we would be a regular at the restaurant but I will never return to a pizza express again. I will be taking this further."

"After reading reviews online we thought would try here for lunch. There we 6 of us. First impressions were this looks nice, but then we were greeted by our waitress who seemed to be in a world of her own. Was slow, not very attentive and seemed quiet nervous. We ordered our food, my chef husband who has worked in many fine dining establishments from St mortiz to fowey Hall, ordered a steak, was asked how he would like it cooked he said as its a sirloin I'd like it rare. You would think that's a normal request would u not. Our food came out, and his steak was overcooked, came out medium well. He got hold of the waitress and sent it back asked for another. She then came back and said that's how they serve it, that is pink. We got told that it comes out pink or well done, due to the cut of the steak. Never in his 22 years in the industry has he ever heard that. Especially when they think medium well is pink. So he decided to go for a burger, which took 20 mins to come out. They weren't busy. By the time it had arrived, we had all finished, kids got extremely restless. The burger was a double which it didn't state on the menu. He ate it as was starving. When it came to paying the bill, he said he will happily pay for everyone else's and drinks but wanted his meal taken off as its not what he wanted and we came out for a family meal. Not for one person to be left to watch everyone else it. The lady I presume is the manager came out and was rude and unhelpful. Told him you ate it so your paying for it, it's that simple. No apology for the steak again got told its the way they serve that cut of meat. That there was nothing wrong with the steak it was pink. Told him to calm down, I said that we will be leaving a review. She said that as a chef he should know better than to leave a bad review. Its a shame as everyone else really enjoyed their food."

"This place has positive reviews, so I can only assume they struggle with the busier summer season and standards slip. Despite the places with lovely sea views offering vegan menus, we chose Gianni's, on a back street in town, due to the reviews. We tried to book ahead but the line was engaged (5 times), so we instead tried walking in for an early meal at 6pm. We were shown to a table and 3 menus were presented one showing specials, the other two a folder containing the main menu, a meat menu and the drinks menus. There was a line on the main menu stating that the vegan menu should be requested. The table next to us had new customers brought to it but despite being right next to us, we couldn't get the staff's attention to request the vegan menu. Eventually someone came over asking if we were ready to order and we were finally able to request the menu. One vegan menu was brought to us and we ordered cautiously, given that the table who came in after us already had their starter and it was huge. Depressingly, that menu stated that vegan wines were available, which is what I'd have preferred if we didn't have the beers we'd ordered in the apparent absence of vegan wines. We ordered the foccacia with olive oil and balsamic to share. Two plates were brought to us. They were dirty and greasy. We requested clean plates and the waiter brought two more plates that were also greasy. Clean plates were provided on the 3rd attempt. The olive oil and balsamic are presented in bottles. These are evidently not wiped between customers as both bottles were greasy. The foccacia arrived and was simply the worst I've had. It was dry and stodgy, perhaps made a couple of days before or perhaps even earlier and frozen. We left most of it. The pizza was huge but the toppings had amalgamated into an emulsion like slop, causing the thin base to taste like uncooked dough. The chips were fine, as was the basic side salad. We didn't order dessert after the meal we'd had. The staff are mainly very young people with no one directing them, so they spent most of the time standing in the doorways chatting. They knew to serve the food and clear the tables but they clearly have had little to no customer service training and were not checking the customers had what they needed and were happy. This place is inexpensive and the portions are large, but rather than authentic Italian food, we were left with a sense of quantity over quality."
