"This wee place is a gem of a find when we were travelling home from a road trip on the east coast. After searching on trip advisor we thought we would give it try having not eat Chinese food for a while. Boy are we glad we did! Been here a few time now in the past year and are happy to drive up from Kilmarnock to do so. Admittedly it isn 't much to look at and is tired in terms of decor with worn seats and chipped crockery, staff aren 't the most chatty and sometimes you feel they don 't have time to see to your needs especially if your sat up on the mezzanine, that being said the food does all of its talking. We have the same every time and share a couple of dishes. And were supposed to meet another two but they had to cancel. Beef Curry were the meat is so tender it just melts in the mouth with just enough spice that builds with every mouthful. We usually have the Crispy Shredded Beef in Peking sauce but tried the Crispy Shredded Chicken in Peking sauce this time. For me it was DELISH and the Peking sauce is to die for, sweet and sticky, the Wife still prefers the Beef. We always have it with egg fried rice and prawn crackers which I find can be hit or miss in many places, with some being quite greasy, these are always just right. We also got a take away or the other couple since they couldn 't make it they had Dry Ribs starter which I 'm told were excellent and Chicken Noodle soup and I Quote "Best Chicken Noodle so every tasted. Crispy Shredded Beef in Peking Sauce which they both loved also. They are n just eat so take away is easily order. We only had a soft drink with ours and it all came in at less than 50quid which I feel is reasonable. Finally, this seems to be were all the Asian Kids go which I say speaks volumes for the quality of the food. I 've never been to any other Chinese Restaurant were its full of Asians just generally Caucasian families. It 's is very small so I 'd advise booking on peak nights/times to avoid disappointment. Will return again and again. thank you"

"last night for tee after football training. 4 of us enjoyed the court area while our little boy had to play on the park and football on the field and enjoy the sunshine. we wanted to eat outside, but the temperature dropped when our food was ready, so we asked ourselves to move, no problems. two of us had the fish finger sandwich (many big enough for tee! you had fish and chips and our son had the pizzabrot and was made with fries option instead of clobigen chips. have read some negative reviews, but don't let go, we had a pleasant evening here and would recommend it."

"Visited today with family for the first time but we had a poor experience. We were seated for 30 mins before someone came took our order. Once our order was took, we waited another 30 mins for our food, it was a little busy but not over run busy. I asked the staff about our order they didn’t know what I was on about, only later for them to apologise as they “didn’t have our order in” Once we received our order, we needed cutlery which they “Forgot about too” our food was cold cutlery was dirty. It was a very hectic experience Un relaxed. The waiter appeared untrained the staff in the kitchen seemed to be running around like headless chickens… overall, we had a poor experience which was disappointing."

"Ordered a vegan pad Thai for main meal… got a dish with egg in it! I double checked if it was vegan… server replied yes… then I started looking through it and could tell it definitely was egg! He took it away and it got remade but seriously.. do t advertise vegan dishes when you clearly don’t know what vegan means! Husband was happy with his at least!"

"This has been a go to place to take visiting family and friends for years because of the great range of foods to accommodate different tastes and dietary needs, interesting decor and views over the marina. After our most recent visit we will be...looking for somewhere new. We couldn't sit where we wanted staff said the upstairs was closed for a private function. We saw no evidence of one, and were there til after 10pm. There were plenty of staff at the bar but table service was badly understaffed, we waited ages for anyone to come to us and were told we had to order via app which wouldn't work on our phones. Then we were told that over half the menu was off, due to supply shortages, but the staff weren't clear what was and wasn't available. Eventually, from a very restricted range (mainly brunch items and this was late evening) we ended up with some miserable plates of food, including bacon butties that would have been disappointing if you'd been given them at a roadside burger van flabby bacon, stodgy baps. When it came to drinks, again we were told that our favourites weren't available because of ingredients that were out of stock. Service was very slow, terse and unfriendly. When we complained we had a rude and sarcastic response from the manager. Only giving it a second star because the location and decor are still great and the bar staff were friendly."

"Had a coffee and an empire biscuit looking forward to my coffee especially as there were about jars of coffee beans for sale at the counter what I got was not anywhere near a cup of coffee more brown liquid...in a cup POOR. And then my empire biscuit biscuit was hard and as I tried to cut it in half the entire piece of icing came off in one piece there was no jam inside only a dried bit of something that might have been jam ! Serving staff had annoying way of calling everyone my lovelies my darlings and my dears that really gets me annoyed !"

"I had booked a table a week in advance for 6 of us to celebrate my daughters birthday, when we arrived we were told out table wasn’t ready and to take a seat, we could see the staff trying to figure out where to put us, after almost 15 minutes they shuffled a few tables and we were finally seated. After another 15 minutes while we watched other people being served who came in after us even after I tried to get the staffs attention, we left and will not be back"

"Yes, went for carry out it's upstairs in the restaurant): there were two ladies in front of me ordering and a middle aged women came over and asked me my order which I began, when...lo! the phone rang whereupon I was ignored and the call answered. At least she then directed me to the other member of staff. I had made the actual effort to go to the premises but was promptly disrespected and ignored for persons unknown out in the wild. Smaller portions and increased price over what I normally pay in the town means the food is about double the cost £22.95 for one special curry with boiled rice and one beef curry with fried rice). It was served in good time and tasty."

"We were desperate looking for a place to eat because we had been quite late and it was full. We found this little place and decided to come in. The super friendly and helpful staff, immediately attended us. We ate the soup of the day (coliflor, lentils and spines, DELICIOSA) and two wrap. It was all right, they served us fast and we could get some coffee to take to continue the day. We certainly recommend it, ratio quality price very good considering it is next to Grassmarket (approx. 9-10 pounds per wrap, soup of the day about 7 prounds without I remember bad). Very advisable to bite something fast. Vegetarian and healthy options"

"I decided to bring my two adult children to this restaurant for a Christmas meal after having a great lunch here with my brother a few weeks ago. However, I was disappointed with the quality of the drinks, as my Cranberry and Soda water lacked cranberry flavor and the soda water was flat. The starters we ordered were not up to par either. The Meze was not as good as the one I had previously tried, with small portions and unappealing presentation. The Scotch egg and Lamb Koftas were undercooked and had to be sent back, and the main courses were not much better. My Schnitzel was overcooked and dry, while the roast chicken dish was mediocre. We decided to skip dessert after the disappointing meal. The evening took a turn for the worse when a drunk customer had a mishap outside the restaurant, causing a scene. Overall, this was not the special occasion we had hoped for, and I would recommend avoiding this restaurant for dinner. The staff were friendly and Dan remembered me, and the atmosphere was pleasant, but the food did not meet expectations. I was surprised that an ambulance was not called for the drunk customer, but apparently it was not needed."

"I used to frequent this restaurant when I was a student, as it was well-known for its quality food at a great price. However, when I recently visited, I was shocked to see that only about three tables were occupied and that a simple Americano coffee cost £3.30! This price is higher than what I have experienced in Liverpool, where the most expensive black coffee I have bought was in a hotel. What happened to the cheap and cheerful vibe this place used to have? There used to be a wide variety of sandwiches with delicious fillings like brie and cranberry, cottage cheese and pineapple, but now those options are no longer available. The restaurant is still friendly, but it is disappointing to see how it has changed. The prices for their regular dishes are now more in line with those of a proper restaurant, rather than the budget-friendly options that students used to enjoy. It is unfortunate that they seem to be targeting wealthier Southern and foreign students, while local customers who have supported Kimos since the 90s are being priced out."

"Been to Christchurch today with my father who’s disabled. Walked into cafe at 3:15 and floors already being cleaned. I asked if they were closing and was told no, but the free tables had chairs stacked up so we couldn’t sit down and we weren’t offered a table despite standing there keen to sit down. At 4:03 I walked back in the cafe to grab a takeaway coffee, to overhear a staff member say to the girl who was still cleaning ‘tell her we’re closed now’… I said that I was hoping for a takeaway drink and they said no, we’re closed. I just found this strange as online the cafe is advertised as being open until 4:30pm. This is the second time I’ve received really poor service at this cafe and I’ll never go back. It really felt like the staff couldn’t wait to get out of there and the customer service deserves a zero rating. It’s a shame as they sell Bad Hand coffee!"

"I ordered this meal through UberEats and it arrived on time and looked good. However, the food itself was extremely disappointing. It lacked any flavor and was very bland. The dishes all tasted the same, with no distinct flavors coming through. I love food, but this restaurant is not one I would recommend. I even called the restaurant to offer to return the food so they could taste it themselves, but they were unable to send a driver and I was not willing to pay extra to return it. If you enjoy tasting your food, this is not the place for you. It makes me question how they ever received an award, unless they had a different chef at the time. I suggest you try elsewhere if you value your money."

"Delighted to give a full hearted and positive review on this take away. We were referred by the Keltiebridge caravan site to sample this restaurant and we were not disappointed by the food and service. The food was really good and the portions were generous to say the least. We were a party of four and no one had anything to say against the quality of the meal. Excellent service and great food. Would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys great Chinese food. Enjoy your meal as we did."

"With the second largest ethnic population in Malaysia being Chinese, I found my way to a few Chinese Malaysian restaurants as well. Malaysia Kopitiam I ate at Kopitiam very soon after I first arrived in London as it was the only place that I knew that made pan mee' 板面. I wasn't too impressed but I absolutely loved the sambal carrot cake. The extra touch of sambal gave it that more-ish kick! I came back another time when a friend of mine, Ms Chocoholic wanted to eat there and I ordered something else that I've never tried before which is the Hokkien Noodles. They were tasty but did not leave a lasting impression. Will I recommend: Yes Will I come back: Yes Have I had better: Yes...read more"

"little samsi, now renamed 'japan' since a few weeks, is a beautiful little hidden shade right outside of withington village, over the road from the red lion. it has only seats for about 20 25 people at any time, and so fills quite quickly, but if they carefully select their timings, then it is not too difficult to get a place. the first time for me was usually around 9 o'clock, but at any time outside the usual munching hours (like 12 13.30 o'clock, and 6 7.30ish it seems easy to get a place and eat some of their delicious food. in consideration of the pint size of the nature of this device, its selection is quite extensive, including its evil cool o Bento boxes, which can be chosen by each element of them, so it comes exactly as they want it massive golden stars for those of this restless eater! they can choose the meat / vegetables option (of which there are two! hoorah,! the sose and there are two types of brilliant!? they also have five types of rammen that I just worship (I decided to ram with nice gyoza a very reasonable £5.50, sushi come out of their ears (they can buy a chef's 32 pieces especially when they're super hungry! , curry rice and curry noodle dishes, as well as fusion sandwiches like the yakisoba sandwich, which is a chicken noodle sandwich. a little bit for everyone and every methinks! They have a small shop area where I kindly taste the sweet tasty hello panda a charming panda shaped tocuity taste-proof. I love her. but they also have noodles, sauces, spices and other essentials make it to home ingredients at a reasonable price. Although there are of course not the same bargains that can be found in the Chinese super markets like wing yip, but it is less than ten minutes to foot from my house and I am lazy enough to be ready to pay for the convenience! the service there has always been provided with a smile and a chat without being in such an intimate environment intrusive, and the smells that drive through the sitting area from the nearby kitchen get these tastes before they even get their food. yum yum! it is worth noting that they have no alcohol for sale in the restaurant, but they informed us kindly that we were welcome to just bump on the off license over the street and bring any alcohol we want. and I did not see any cork fee on the bill, which was great! if they are not over a wee tipple with their scran, though, they have a very choice all in all this is a beautiful change from the usual places I go for eating in withington, and I would definitely be more than happy to entertain friends or family in this picturesque little eastern shade."
