"Busy restaurant and a disappointing start ending up at the worst table in the restaurant beside the hatch where all the dirty dishes are dumped. If booking I would suggest adding a note not to get this table for dinner. 2 steak meals were warm at best and despite being sent back only the plate came back with more heat. One other meal was good and enjoyable. Great server who was helpful and tried to negotiate an adjustment to the bill at the end of the meal which started off with an odd suggestion for a reduction to the overall cost but we got there in the end. No discussion with management, who didn't seem to want to deal with any difficult conversation, but the bill outcome and complimentary round of drinks helped with a disappointing visit. Staff serving tables were great and to be commended for taking on responsibility that would I would have suggested should have been handled by the duty manager."

"unfortunately we did not cost our meal here. the food was lukewarm, some were tasteful, but some were not. the waitress seemed to be a loss, what to say when we told her about eating. the owner came by to ask our opinion about eating, and even though he said he was sad that we did not enjoy our meal and would talk to the cook, he also went to great pain to defend it, even if we told him that we had also heard another table complaining about their meal and sending it back. in the night there was only another party in the restaurant, so the atmosphere was not great, but that was not her fault. everything said it wasn't a great experience."

"We came as a family for Sunday lunch, atmosphere was great, it was nice and busy which is always a good sign. We were sat in the bar area as the restaurant was full wasn’t an issue just a bit of a tight squeeze for 6 adults. Roast dinner was really tasty, the pork was great and so was the beef. The stuffing good, cauliflower cheese not cheesy at all! The only thing which was disappointing was the trio toast, not good value at all for with just one piece of each meat (you get two pieces on the normal roast) so not worth it in my opinion. The sticky toffee pudding was the absolutely delicious. I would definitely return."

"A lovely pub, with a great and friendly team. But over the last 12 18 months the room seems less busy and I suspect that has a lot to do with the food and drink. A short but nice wine list, the rest of the drinks list seems shorter and more limited. But it is the food menu that has changed drastically. The Crooked Well was a great 'gastro ' pub, with excellent food. It was not the cheapest but generally always very good. Now the menu reads like a slightly enthusiastic home cook has put it together, and the general quality is very average. Perhaps we were spoilt beforehand, but it seems like a huge step down. Still a nice place, but perhaps for a Sunday lunch or snack rather than a nice meal with friends."

"I love how accommodating and attentive staff were as it was my graduation meal so they really helped make it an even more memorable and enjoyable experience. We dined using the set menu priced at 37.50 GBP per person which was amazing value for money. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their food as it was flavoursome and beautifully presented. I wish I remembered the staff’s name but I got carried away with a few glasses of wine courtesy of the staff who even brought out a surprise desert to celebrate my academic achievement. They even brought out a second for photoshoot purposes!"

"Food was tasty even though menu was confusing. We were handed a Sunday lunch menu (set menu of up to 3 courses) and a separate lunch menu. We asked and were told that we could not 'mix and match ' between them.... but the table behind us were allowed to. We were also asked to order all 3 courses at the start of the meal... again, other tables were not forced to do this. The service was lacking both in substance and hospitality staff need to learn to smile! I had soup not overly hot and no bread to accompany, followed by turkey roast had to ask for cranberry sauce (which looked exactly the same as the 'jam ' used on my sisters starter and dessert). We were very underwhelmed as expected so much more from the beautiful surroundings and majestic building"

"Me and my boyfriend went for our 5th year anniversary meal. They messed our booking up as we had to cancel our first booking but they were under different email addresses and we were told they had sorted it. We arrived to a woman who eventually gave us a table after we had tried to explain they had cancelled the wrong booking even though I had emailed from a different email address and they had confirmed the previous one has been cancelled the day before we made the second booking, she still told us it wasn’t the restaurant fault and we weren’t bothered as accidents happen… The food was average at best, nothing special what so ever, I got the fish and chips and the fish was extremely greasy and I found some black plastic in my fish, however I did not complain as I have good manners and didn’t want to cause an issue as we were there for a celebration. My boyfriend has allergies and could not eat coleslaw so we asked for it to be removed…his burger arrived with coleslaw inside!!! Luckily I had realised and warned him before something serious happened and we asked for a replacement which took 15 minutes! I had almost finished my meal by that point. I ordered a sticky toffee pudding and it was completely dry inside, I was struggling to get my spoon through it and we did not finish it. The cocktail and beer was average and overpriced. Paid for a coke, came in a small glass with more ice than anything and wasn’t even half a can. The most strange thing was that when we asked for the service charge of £8 to be removed…a very old woman with short hair and large glasses and clearly a temper issue came over and spoke to us horribly and questioned why we had asked for it to be removed. I told her the fish I got was very greasy and the cake was very dry, she did not like my honest reply and started to raise her voice which was very unprofessional, I was so shocked with her tone of voice and then she of all people asked us to leave when we refused to pay the service charge and I told her it was discretionary as it said on the menu. Disgusting treatment from what I’m assuming is the manager and I’ve seen other reviews now that have complained about the same woman. Honestly so disappointing as we went for a celebration and someone had to ruin a nice day for us, hope she gets some help with herself or finds a job more suited to her hopefully away from members of the public. "I was curious to eat here as I read all the good reviews. Our table was for 4 and booked for 4 a.m. on Sunday, which I thought was after a busy lunch service. We were 10 minutes late, but there were many empty tables. Told ur table was not ready so we had a drink at the bar, something strange as it is a pub, so was not disturbed. After sitting at the table, you had to wait 10 minutes or so, no one came by and had to ask for menus. 3 different roasts ordered, unfortunately, had to wait an hour if no longer for food. We noticed that the couple got their lamb in front of us in the vicinity, although they were arrived and ordered after us. When the food arrived 2 dishes served first and then the waiter was in the middle of the over the last dish, but stopped to serve another customer a drink At no point has anyone explaining or apologising for the long waiting period and when I asked why the optional service fee was automatically entered into the card machine without asking me first, I got a somewhat bumpy answer to my explanation why I didn't want to pay it. I would have thought that would have been the opportunity to apologize and explain the delay. The food itself was quite average given the price."

"Why is this place so quiet? We visited on a Friday night and, despite a few people at the bar, we were the only ones dining! The restaurant is stunning and contemporary, and the food and service were excellent. It was a bit challenging to locate the restaurant (especially in the dark and rain), but considering the high quality of food at such reasonable prices, this place should be bustling. We would definitely return when it's busier."

"Absolutely shocking such a shame on my daughter’s birthday. Half the things on the menu weren’t available; we had to wait over 35 minutes for our food, even though the restaurant wasn’t even quarter full; and the food that came was stale (kettle chips from a packet! , disgusting (pizzetta and blue cheese sauce or very disappointing (ice creams . The only nice thing was the burger. Even with the things that were awful taken off, the bill was still £120 for four and they had the cheek to add a service charge, even though the service was dreadful. Don’t waste your time or money going here."

"We were here for a delightful Christmas dinner and were seated promptly. The meal was festive and delicious but the service a little less than attentive. Other tables seated after U.S. We're served more quickly, water was not refilled nor additional drinks offered. We were treated a bit like invisible diners. But we enjoyed our coffee and after dinner mince minis in a lovely lounge and overall the place is just visually gorgeous and lowkey elegant with wonderful art. Food very, very good. Would likely go again. Especially for tea in the public rooms or cocktails in the bar! Great easy location, too"

"I booked this restaurant for our 1st wedding anniversary after carefully searching restaurants in our area for reviews, it looked absolutely perfect BUT it couldn't have been more wrong, in fact the only good thing I have to say about this place is the young girl that welcomed us and did absolutely everything and I mean everything. she welcomed us, served our drinks, took our orders, served our food, cleared our table, everything. the first red flag came as soon as we sat down and were presented with a menu printed on a piece of A4 paper with not a very wide selection of things to eat maybe 5 of each, starters, main course and desert then to be told a couple of those were actually not on because ingredients had not been delivered. well we thought small menu so the food must be really good, this couldn't have been further from the truth. we both ordered brucheta to start, when it came we were presented with a piece of sliced bread probably from the co op from over the road with a mush on top that didn't look very appetizing, not fresh tomatoes and so on and so forth. then came the main I ordered chicken kiev and the wife got a pizza. the wife ate 3 pieces of her pizza because she was hungry. what was presented in front of me is another story, i paid £11 for a tennis ball size and shape of processed meat, just like you get from the supermarket on a bed of to be honest i still dont know what it was, no flavour to any of it and to cap it all of it was burnt. we didn't complain at he time because we are not the sort to do that, we dont like making a scene but this experience absolutely ruined what should have been a perfect day for us our first wedding anniversary. now i dont know whether we caught them on a bad day or what, i read all the reviews before and i have read them all again since and it doesn't make any sense, all i can say is i certainly will not be returning or recommending this place to any of my friends."

"The closure of Antico leaves a huge hole in Bermondsey Street. Great food, atmosphere and staff. This restaurant was everything that an eatery should be, and almost never is. If there is no place in London for an Antico, then it can only be because monetary greed has triumphed over culinary need. All of those responsible for the demise of this fine place should hang their heads in shame."
