"Faulty Towers at its' best bless them. The food was lovely and having been there many times years before I had no preceeding worries. However, when we arrived the waiters in an effort to be attentive I assume stood next to us and would not leave us be. The staff take it in turns to stand exceptionally close to us at the table waiting for our order. We had only just arrived. Once we had poppadoms they kept on trying to take them away in order to put down the main meal. We were happy to keep the Papadoms alongside the main meal. The manager then came over and said they normally take the plates away to the Papadoms to them being the main meal but his staff told him we wanted to keep them as had nlt finished them. We looked at one another at the table quite puzzled as to why this was unusual. When ordering the mains we needed some time to look at the menu and discuss it between us but they refused to leave the table. I think they were trying to be over attentive but the result was a very awkward and an uneasy experience. We even ask them to give us a few moments and they said yes and continued to stand up against the table waiting for the order. We asked to take the food home that was left and they readily agreed and we thought they would take the food away and bring it back packaged. However, they arrived with carrier bags and boxes without lids and handed them out to us so we on our night out had to then dispense dinners into boxes and lids were requested. All in all it was a rather bizarre experience and not a patch on what it used to be years ago. I'm sure they're just trying to be attentive perhaps but it really was a Faulty Towers experience and exceptionally awkward and bizarre."

"Been to this pub many times as the Indian food is usually great but unfortunately last night could be our last night!! They have introduced a new menu which started last night and none of the staff seem to know what’s going on! They were actually printing off A4 copies of the menu as customers asked to see a menu! The evening started with me asking the barman for a pint of Kingfisher (Indian beer) and he asked if I wanted a single or a double!! After clarifying that I wanted a pint of beer not a spirit, I then asked him for a pint of coke and a half pint of lager. This little teaser had him totally flummoxed! He asked if I meant half pint coke and a half pint of lager? NO says I, I want a pint of coke with ice and a half pint of lager! It took him a good 30 seconds to figure out it was two separate drinks and he was thinking where could he find a big enough glass to mix a pint of coke with half of lager .The evening continued along the same vein when we tried to order food. The order was written down three times before he got it right. The food turned up after 30 minutes but was immediately sent back as it was all cold .When the meals arrived the second time, they were all hot and very tasty. This was surprising given the Fawlty Towers experience we’d just had at the bar.So the management have clearly screwed up with the introduction of their new menu. There has obviously been no planning and no staff training. We saw several customers complaining directly to the manager. We will wait a few months for this place to either settle down or go out of business before we would consider trying it again."

"My partner and I visited here on a date night tonight. Situated within the Great Western Hotel by St David's train station. I have eaten in many Indian restaurants over the years, in both Exeter and the West Midlands where I am originally from. Being a Chef myself, I love to make my own curries both at home and as specials in the place I work. Because of this, I can be hard to please when it comes to dining out for a curry. Sadly, a lot of places in Exeter don't live up to what I had hoped for, compared to so many of the amazing Indian restaurants in the Midlands, but Karma is not only an exception, but an absolute gem! Fantastic service and the flavours, spices and aromas from the food are simply divine! I had the Lamb Karahi Gosht with Mushroom Rice, my partner had the Chicken Dhansak with Garlic Rice and we shared Garlic and Coriander Naan breads. Sometimes I have had Lamb curries where the Lamb has either been undercooked and chewy or overcooked and dry. I am pleased to say the Lamb here is cooked to perfection! My partner said her Chicken was also cooked perfectly. Both dishes were labelled as medium and were just that. As a fan of Indian food for many years, I have to say if you are in Exeter (I'm lucky, I live here) and you are looking for top notch Indian cuisine then you need to visit this place. Wonderful service, excellent food and very reasonably priced compared to other places closer to the city centre. Well worth a visit and we will be returning again soon!"
