"5 Stars??? Yes I do feel generous sometimes, unlike the teachers in high school who never wanted to shell out that extra half a mark for a spelling mistake. Let 's get back to Manhattan Grill and analyse (food reviewing is very serious business I tell ya! how and why they deserve full marks. I am more of a West London girl and I like the Victorian and Georgian buildings but the walk to Manhattan Grill, especially the pretty bridge you have to cross from Canary Wharf to reach your destination (Manhattan Grill is extremely romantic (that is the best word I could use, I promise . The external ambience of any restaurant does add to its charm. Oh did I mention that this steak house is a part of Mariott, these guys are ace when it comes to such things! I made a reservation before going and I was extremely delighted to see that the manager remembered my name without having to look at one of those black diaries. The service was a bit slow initially (it took them a while to get us water which we requested for but the overall service made up for that little jolt. I was generous to take a friend of mine along with me (nothing is worse than eating alone, I promise to try this place (did I mention that I won a voucher from this lovely site? Woohoo Zomato! and we decided to go for cocktails instead of wine, think we both had enough of wine over the weekend. While I was trying to carefully pick a cocktail from the menu and looking rather confused, the manager suggested that we had to the bar where an extremely experienced bar genius will talk us through all of them. We made our way to a very old fashioned (in a nice way looking bar called the G&T bar and as the name suggests they specialise in Gin. The bar genius, Sam made us try some lovely Gin from around the world Saffron infused Gin, Spice route Gin and a very London Gin. All of them had their own distinctive tastes I am not a neat spirit kind of girl but even I loved all of them especially the silk route or spice route gin (yeah yeah make those lame curry jokes, go on because I could taste the cinnamon, cardamom and other gorgeous spices. He made me a cocktail with that gin and added some more exciting things to it which included rosemary, chocolate and orange liquor BLISS. Before entering the restaurant I was starving but all this Gin excitement made me forget my hunger but by the time my cocktail was ready the waiter came and said : 'Madam your Steak is ready ' Perfect Timing! I went for the rib eye steak with creamy mash and red wine sauce keep it simple! My steak was perfectly cooked medium well (just the way I like and it was MASSIVE! A person with my appetite can never finish one of those, and needless to say I didn 't either! After being rather satisfied with my steak and cocktail, we ordered for a Manhattan Raspberry Cheesecake It was again simple but delicious. Perfect sweetness, I don 't like my cheesecakes to be extremely sugary and a generous crust nom nom nom. And... I am running out of stars! Verdict : Stunning location, Great service, Knowledgeable bar genius with a great moustache, Beautiful, well done meat and yummy desserts That m 'dear is a perfect dinner! I shall rest my case here. "When I heard of the pop up restaurant called The Fat Bear, I immediately thought it was named after me, and so booked a table. It is located in the Rising Sun pub a very short walk away from St Paul's Cathedral. This was only my second experience with a pop up (I believe so anyway to be honest the only part of my body that remembers the food I have consumed is my stomach after the Three Compasses in Hoxton last year (where I watched Game of Thrones. See that review, but beware of GoT spoilers... and so I was expecting the food to be brought to us while we were in the pub. This restaurant, however, was leasing the upper floor of the Rising Sun pub, which was a good thing as it had a much nicer atmosphere than its host. While the downstairs part was a rather dingy pub, the upstairs had a nice early 20th century feel to it, with fireplaces and mahogany tables. We were welcomed and seated by a very friendly waiter who also turned out to be the barman (and the chef, and the cleaner.. just kidding he was front of house . He had a beard, was a little plump and WELSH! Basically like me, except talented and of value to society! We were bound to get along... What amazed me in particular about his service was that this man knew EVERYTHING about the restaurant. From being able to fully explain the ingredients of each menu item, to selecting an optimal red wine to accompany our meal to making a virgin cocktail for my friend who was doing Dry January, to even the music that was playing! (We recognised a few covers from the setlist my friend recognised that cool song with the whistling that's always on the ads done in a folky way. I of course only picked up on the Game of Thrones theme being covered by a swing band... I like Thrones by the way... His service was attentive, thorough and of the kind of quality that made me feel like someone important like a recruitment consultant... As for the food, well I perused the menu trying to find a low fat option. I'm trying to lose weight you see... I want to change my name to Abstemious Jones.... so naturally I ordered a Sloppy Joe burger with Buffalo wings as a starter and the Fat Bear Sundae as a dessert. Meanwhile my far more sensible amigo, who already weighs half of what I do, ordered the catfish with his virgin cocktail. The wings arrived swiftly and they were delicious! The winning part was definitely the blue cheese sauce, which was a mild, but tasty antidote to the spicy (but not too spicy wings. My friend ordered the chicken livers and I had a try those were even better (they had some sort of chutney sauce inside . My Sloppy Joe Burger was the most disappointing part of my meal. Despite the delicious combination of sauce, salad and pickled red onion, the patty itself was comparatively bland. I should have ordered the catfish or the short ribs, as the catfish was spicy and delicious (I'm not usually a seafood fan and the ribs were boneless, meaty and came with two absolutely divine BBQ sauces. The best part of my main was the paprika spiced fries. I was stuffed, but there is always room for dessert! While my less disgracefully gluttonous friends shared the milk and cookies (where you add flavoured milk to cookie cups I went for the holistic Fat Bear Sundae, which is pretty much the whole dessert menu thrown into a sundae, with salted caramel, bourbon caramel (I think , oreo cookies, honeycomb, chocolate pieces and a cream cheese topping instead of your usual chantilly cream. It was one of the best sundaes I've ever had, and Chris (the expert waiter told me that usually it would include some Baked Alaska as well, but they were out. I couldn't believe it. It was already the dairy equivalent of the mixed grill and even so it was incomplete! I rolled down the stairs and waddled my way home, full of delicious food and very satisfied with a fantastic pop up. Pros: great service, good range of food, amazing sauces, lovely atmosphere, Chuck Norris waiter Cons: Sloppy Joe was average. Recommend to others: Hell yeah book a table while you can! It's only around for a year. I'll be back for livers, ribs and Oreo cheesecake!"

"Booked this place for 8 people to celebrate a Graduation. Off to a bad start, no-one greeting guests at arrival and was left standing for at least 5 minutes before a waitress who seemed to have an attitude finally showed us to our table. Service was ok to start with taking drinks and main meal orders reasonably promptly. However when the drinks arrive there was an extra drink that no-one had ordered. The main courses then arrived in dribs and drabs with at least 10minutes(possibly longer) between the first dish arriving and the last one, by which time the fist dishes had cooled noticeably. Food was ok but nothing special. Make sure you check the menu and prices before you go as the costs can quickly escalate. Also we had one guest who likes to enjoy their food and takes their time eating it. This didn 't stop the staff clearing the rest of the table leave this one individual still eating, felt completely inappropriate and a clear sign to get a move on. Ordered desert which again was ok but nothing special. Then the fun of trying to get the bill and pay for it. Our original waitress seemed to have disappeared and finally managed to attract a member of staffs attention from the opposite side of the room. Asked for the bill and eventually someone came over with the bill then walked away. I assumed that they were away getting the payment reader but no. Had to finally flag down the Manager and asked to pay. He did return with the card reader at least. Spoke to the Manager on the way out and expressed our huge disappointment and clearly stated that this would be our FIRST AND LAST TIME . He offered an apology but by that time just wanted to get out of the place. No I would not recommend this place!"

"Well what a culinary treat we had in store this week as for my wife 's birthday we decided to do the big 'Simon Rogan double header ' of Mr Coopers for lunch on Tuesday, followed by the French on Wednesday. There 's no way you could compare these 2 restaurants as the experiences are like chalk and cheese, but throughout both visits the service was exceptional, the food fantastic and the overall agreement that we in Manchester are lucky to have these 2 relatively new kids on the block. Mr Coopers food is Modern British, with the emphasis being based on good seasonal and local ingredients where possible, all served up in a setting that was grand but relaxed, classy yet informal and a menu with so much variety that it will keep us coming back time and time again. I went for the 3 course set lunch menu £19.00 while my wife went off map by choosing from the a la carte selection although we do tend to share a lot between each others plates which was also reasonably priced. Between us we ate the starters of homemade corn bread with chicken livers and the crispy pork belly followed by mains of spiced monkfish with spinach and mash and a rib steak with truffle pudding that was simply divine. Now I love my food but I know my limitations so won 't be trying to come up with some sort of faux food critic description of each dish. All I 'll say is that the food was damn good! In fact I 'll say it was so good that you should bookmark Mr Coopers now and make it your next port of call if you haven 't been. We finished all this off with a slice of seasonal pumpkin pie and a couple of espressos. With the mains my wife had a cocktail of take me back to the summertime which was very refreshing and I had a pint of the Tatton Blonde which I 'm led to believe is the only place in the world to have it on tap Which brings me on to the beers. Now you 'll see that I 've given Mr Coopers 4 out of 5 and while I thought it was excellent, I can 't bring myself to award it 5 stars while the elephant in the room is still here. The beer selection is absolutely dreadful and fully seems to be blind to the fact that we 're in the middle of a craft beer revolution in the UK at the moment. Where is the Thornbridge, Red Willow and Marble? all fairly local breweries which would tie in really well with the concept of Mr Coopers, but instead the selection is reminiscent of a night down Deansgate Locks shudder... lager, lager, in fact make that **** lager and having a lunchtime Desperados with my perfectly cooked monkfish wasn 't exactly high on the agenda for me. But I 'm sure that they 're aware of this... and maybe the Midland is tied into a contract to stock these beers for a little longer... maybe...hopefully... Overall you 're talking £60 including service for all this at lunch time I would say money well spent. We 'll be back very soon now just sort out those beers!"

"We headed up to Portrush and booked into the Atlantic Hotel. The check in time was 4 pm and although we arrived a little earlier our room was ready. The receptionist was friendly and gave us information about dinner etc but we didn't eat at the hotel in the evening. The hotel was busy. Plenty of families and European and American visitors in Portrush on that weekend. We headed to the Harbour bar for a pint if the best Guinness in the North of Ireland. It was buzzing.. the surf school was out .. the sailing club was out and people were just everywhere enjoying a wee drink and talking. It was just brilliant. There is a fantastic complex of restaurants at the Harbout complex. Something for everyone.. and they don't take bookings its first come first served.. there can be a wait but they don't waste any time and we enjoyed our wSit of 30 mins in the Gin bar of the Harbour bar . There was a young guy playing music and everyone was in such a good relaxing mood. We went up to the kiwi bar on the Main Street for a walk after our food which was amazing. First time in a long time I have had such a good sirloin steak , well priced and cooked to perfection. We returned to the Gin bar later as there was music to late and again we were not disappointed. We had a great notes sleep at the Atlantic and a really good hearty breakfast menu in the morning. Plenty of fruit and cereal.. cooked breakfast was plentiful and warm and the staff were efficient and friendly and cleared the tables and left you plenty of space on the table to eat as much as you wanted. Some people took a yogurt or a croissant for later and this didn't seem any issue. We had a lovely night away.. and headed on round to see the Dark Hedges from Game of Thrones and came home along the coast road. A most relaxing night away and we would definitely do it again and stay longer next time. Good value for money break"
