"I booked the festive menu for three and said I would have something off the menu all four of us had purchased a voucher for £15 which enabled us to have £25 towards meal and drinks. The three friends each paid a deposit of £5. The meal was dreadful!!! The service was slow and we were the only ones in there! The beef had no Yorkshire pudding, the Turkey ROLL was like Bernard matthew’s, my chicken was over cooked and dry it was supposed to have a sauce but I had to ask for gravy it was so dry! And the dessert (treacle tart) was not only cold but rock hard!!! We asked to speak to someone to say how disappointed we were and basically were brushed off then she told us one voucher per bill but we were told per person! So she then had to split the bill we all ended up giving her our vouchers because we wouldn’t go again. Appalling! The two stars were for the decorations!"

"I discovered this restaurant and was pleasantly surprised by the very friendly staff and delicious food. The chef was extremely accommodating and willing to customize menu items to our preferences. They even appreciated our suggestions for new dishes. I give them five stars across the board: Price per person: £100+, Food: 5, Service: 5, Atmosphere: 5. I highly recommend trying their Fish and Chips."

"We requested a window seat, which was nice. However, we were greeted with an abrupt introduction. The waitress seemed more interested in talking to a local customer at a nearby table than taking our order, which came across as rude and arrogant. The menu was covered in dried ketchup, but the food itself was enjoyable. Unfortunately, the waitress cleared empty glasses without asking if we wanted another drink and removed two plates before everyone had finished eating. After waiting 20 minutes without being asked about dessert, we had to try and get her attention for the bill. Despite having eaten at this restaurant before without any issues, this experience was disappointing."

Service normally good but bad experience tonight. 4 people ordered food, we walked out happily and then two members of staff ran our after us saying they gave us too much food. At this point we were out of the establishment so in my opinion it should have been left as it was their mistake, but they were persistent and took the food off of one of us! I couldn’t believe my eyes! Very dissapointed with this experience especially when it’s normally good. This is the place we have found and love at university and hope things change."

"Am I the only one who feels like an absolute donut ordering food from these lot? The food is awful, they exploit drunken individuals, despite the fact we weren’t drunk, they still treated us as if we were drunk with the poor quality of food and customer service. The floor was a slipping hazard with filf and grease all over it, as it was the end of the night, there was someone sweeping up, but brushing it all into our feet with no respect, food brushed all over me and my friends, I felt like a greasy doner kebab on the floor. (The floor looked like it hadn’t been sweeped since the afternoon). In conclusion, I wouldn’t feed this food to my pet rat. They’ve seen better meals in Durham sewers. DO NOT RISK IT, even if you’re starving"

"Very clean, spacious room with comfy bed, all the facilities we’d needed. We went there for one of my friend’s 40th I mentioned that after the booking and asked if possible to get a lake view room. They put a kind birthday note aswell in the room on our arrival which was very sweet. The staff from the staff at the bar&restaurant to the reception) was exceptional, kind and polite, went above and beyond the expectations to make us feel comfortable, any minor issues was resolved very professionally and on the spot. We had an extremely pleasant stay here and I will definitely go back with my partner for a spa weekend aswell we didn’t have time for the treatment with my friend this time) all in all was a great stay"

"It is with great sadness that I write this review. We visited on the 30th August 2023, and I was looking forward to it. Firstly, the venue has been nicely redesigned, however the dining room is small and very cramped. We asked to be seated in the covered area outside and that was really nice with some nice living flame centre pieces. The staff were really helpful, and we ordered out meals. Having followed the owner from his two previous venues we expected a similar standard, however we were very disappointed. Four meals ordered. Steak pie was just ok, the vegetables were quite hard and inedible, the chunky chips where a disappointment with lots of small bits in bottom of the serving basket. The Chicken skewers were really good and no complaints there. The peppercorn sauce with the grilled chicken was gloopy, and clearly either a packet mix or the awful jar you get from Makro, no taste and very little peppercorn flavour, very poor, however the chicken was well cooked and presented. The Fillet Salmon with prawns was nowhere near a fillet salmon with four small salmon chunks and a bowl full of salad which looked like it has been tipped straight from the bag. All in all a very below average food experience. I have always rated the food from the two previous establishments the owner managed, I am so sad to see this poor standard. There was a small wedding party with a guest in a wheelchair and there was no ramp to enable the chair to exit the eating area, so one of our guests helped the other three people life the chair over the step, not sure where this stands with the Equality and Disability Act or indeed the liability on the establishments insurance should an accident or inquiry have occurred. However we only to happy to help the gentleman maintain his dignity to exit the dining area without any fuss. Sorry Chris, but we will not be coming back anytime soon, I know you are better than this, and you can provide a very high standard of food, sadly this was not what we are used too. please accept this review in the spirit in which it is given and I hope you can look to seek improvements, where necessary, as I believe you deserve success."

"If you are a gin lover and like smoked meats you need come here! Having prebooked a table we were taken up stairs and provided a menu. Luckily we were sat right under the specials board from that I instantly chose the fried haggis and then a ox cheek dish to follow. I also decided to sample a fire side cocktail which packed a punch of tequila. The fried haggis was sublime with it poached egg and was the perfect amount for a starter. Cream spinach was ordered to accompany my ox cheeks which turned out to be so tender! However it was so rich with the red wine sauce and mash that i struggled to finish. To complete the meal I opened the gin menu which was extensive. My friend had one that changed colour where I got a sake based one. Each one was carefully presented with delicate fruits .. Overall a very lovely place and a must to attend to in St Ives"

"was already several timers before pandemic always very good. tonight, although the service was shocking lasted half an hour for our drink came, but only 1 came to ask after the other, but it was the wrong drink 3 server later correct drink came order tapas it tasted, but was cold. we wanted to go to the theater, so no time for dessert when it took so long. on the top it is dog friendly, so again with the dog the bar person took the drinks of our bill that will replace the situation. but now I write the review, as unfortunately when I consider my bank, which I was overloaded by £5 and which is not due after leaving a tip. "Stayed here for a few days for a get-away with my wife, we enjoyed how close the location was to York and how affordable it was for a long weekend-esque break away, £150 for three nights for a couple offer perfect opportunity to experience as much of York as you wish, or explore the surrounding areas. The staff there are lovely people, treating you more like a friend than anything else, very welcoming and free with their smiles. We only had breakfast on one of the days, it was £10 each person, the English breakfast was a good size, came out in good time, with cereal, tea and fruit juices on the side if you wanted them. The rooms had a homely feel to me due to the decor so I may be biased here, but from the one room I saw, it was a great size for two people, little kettle for tea and coffee, a large queensize bed and ensuit, with plenty of storage space this room is perfect for storing your clothes and treasures and having a comfortable night, the only downside is the main road out front which can get noisy in peak times.. however the times you will be sleeping here it is much quieter so it's mostly irrelevant. I slept well and so did my wife. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for a cheap, enjoyable stay away, with plenty of experiences to offer"

"30/07/2022 This place goes by at least 3 different names, ‘Say Queso’ on Google, ‘Papi Taco’ on the take-out apps and ‘Desperados’ in person. Overall the food was extremely disappointing and the pictures on the apps incredibly misleading. Firstly, the tacos. Admittedly, they do not specifically say hard or soft shell, but what came was essentially bland slop in a wrap. They did not give us any of the sauces that we paid for, either on the tacos or separately. So there was no saving grace there. Secondly, the Nachos. We have no idea what kind of sauce was on this but it was very strange. I won’t say it was bad as that seems to be more of a matter of opinion. However, it was simply soaked in this sauce, with a bit of cheddar sprinkled over it and nothing else. Thirdly, the quesadillas. We went with plain cheese and it was still terrible. How do you mess up cheese wrap heat? I will say, it was delivered very quickly and the curly fries were decent. Overall, I’d recommend avoiding this place."

"We've frequented The Courthouse many times over the last 10 years. Having used them for many occasions just for drinks only, or meals with drinks and were not disappointed. We've always collected our choices, even though delivery options are fully available. So, Valentine's became our...next point-of-call. No disappointment in the menu choices. Ordering on-line was, as before, nice and easy (An account is not needed for this). Skip forwards to being called on the day, to be informed that the local road was being worked upon (highways resurfacing) but advised of the 1 minute distanced car park for convenience. I was already aware of this issue, but what service for the business to call, let you now about and offer traffic advice. All choices ordered, were ready on-the-dot. Fully cooked. Containerised separately. Marked up clearly. Service with a smile. It all helped make the Valentines day. Thanks to the Chef the Staff."
