"Today we payed our first visit to Brawn and what a fabulous lunch we enjoyed to. Set in the heart of Columbia Road , East London is where you’ll find this trendy casual dining restaurant. The menu has a mediterranean theme that is designed for sharing although the sizes of the mains gives you the opportunity to have a starter , main and dessert if you so desire. We entered to receive a nice friendly welcome and as we looked around the restaurant was full with a good buzzy atmosphere. We were then escorted to our table which was in fact through the other side where you would also find the open kitchen. Once seated we were greeted by Victoria our waitress for the afternoon and who did a fabulous job in looking after us. We started with a cocktail while taking a look at the menu. After chatting to Victoria about the menu and her recommendations we placed our order. We started with a selection of snacks including Bread Butter , Salame Campagnolo , Parmesan Fritters and Rabbit Rillete Toast. They were absolutely delicious and we couldn’t wait to see what would be coming next. It was now onto our starters where we would share an amazing Cuttlefish , nduja , chickpea , aioli along with a Cornish Crab , violet artichoke , celery , red chilli before finishing with Grilled Lamb Heart , friggitelli pepper , yoghurt , pistachio , mint. The flavours in each dish were perfectly balanced and a delight to eat. We then moved on to the main course where we were in for a real treat with two stunning dishes. My wife chose the Duck Leg with sprout tops , celeriac and pear. For myself I chose the Pork Loin with hispi cabbage , agen prune and mustard that was simply divine. We really were enjoying some amazing food all washed down with a fabulous Momento Mori 2020 Fistful of Flowers natural wine with flavours of pink grapefruit , peach and apricot. It was now time for a little break before moving on to Cheese and Dessert. This started with a selection of two cheeses with jelly and crackers. We followed this with the Quince Posset , biscotti and grappa as well as the heavenly Chocolate Tart with creme fraiche. We finished with a coffee to bring to an end a fantastic first visit to Brawn and one that I would love to repeat soon. The food and wine was amazing and our waitress Victoria was excellent so yes I would highly recommend a visit."

"The food was disappointing and expensive and the service pretty much non existent. When we arrived the staff member who was greeting people was on the phone. She eventually looked up at us but didn 't acknowledge us or smile. We decided to go and use the bathroom and then come back. She was either still on the phone or on another call. Again, she didn 't acknowledge us. Another server came and stood there for a minute or so, and then acknowledged us and said she 'd take us through. Which she did in silence. My friend had a question about the wine when our server came to take our drinks order she just wanted to know if either of the rosé wines were similar to a blush. The server replied We only have two rosés , and that was that. No help, no saying she 'd go and find out. We were a little shocked at the prices of the food £19 for fish and chips, and £22 for a dry, overcooked chicken schnitzel. We contemplated leaving, but didn 't want to be rude. We were part way through our mains when we noticed another customer taking a photo of something on the wall. It was a specials board. Nobody had told us there were specials, which we probably would have chosen had we realised there were some. When it came to pay the bill, we chose on the card reader not to add a tip. Our server had barely uttered a word to us, had been unhelpful with the wine, and hadn 't told us about the specials. When we chose the no tip option she gave us a disgusted look and pretty much tutted!!"

"The only thing good about our meal was the pudding! I am especially disappointed as I was taking 2 friends out as a belated anniversary meal. We arrived a little later than our 7pm slot as the place was so difficult to find. We thought we had actually walked into a club the music was so loud could hardly hear yourself think and none of us are exactly oldies!! It's not clearly indicated where the restaurant is so spent another 5 mins wandering around the ground and lower floor looking for it then asked someone behind the bar, really loudly ....twice (due to the volume of the music! we were grunted at and they pointed to a lift. We went upstairs and oh my god the music was even louder!! We were shown to the table and given the menu and told that they had run out of the Steak and Beef Rib options which left Vegetarian , Chicken Schnitzel or Hake none of which we particularly liked! How on earth can a restaurant run out of these dishes by 7pm in the evening is beyond me. Considering tables are pre booked, one would think they would have some idea and order their stock accordingly! We ordered the Hake which was ok but the samphire that accompanied it was awful...full of stalks and chewy, in other words, cheap and nasty which just about summed up this place. Would never go there again and would never recommend. I even spoke to the manager and complained and was met with complete indifference not bothered in the slightest! No wonder they are putting on these deals so cheaply, as the saying goes, if it seems to good to be true then it probably is! Avoid, avoid, avoid!"
