Salieri Restaurant

Salieri Restaurant

376 The Strand Covent Garden London, WC2R 0LQ, WC2E 7HA, United Kingdom

Pasta • Steak • French • Italian

"This was apparently a very old family run restaurant that was incredibly popular in its day. It’s in a fabulous location on the Strand, directly opposite the Savoy. Unfortunately, it now looks like it has been taken over and is being run by a relatively young team, who basically haven’t got a clue. They’re clearly riding on the coat-tails of what it used to be, but are just not cutting it. I’m pretty certain that I’m not the first person to come to this conclusion, as nearly every restaurant in the Covent Garden area is packed out for pre-theatre meals, but Salieri was suspiciously empty, with only three other tables occupied when we went in. The menu was hugely disappointing and not what I expected of a decent Italian restaurant. To give the staff their due, they try really hard (possibly too hard) to be polite and helpful, but what they’re offering is too feeble to match their enthusiasm. When my food arrived it turned out to be the most bland, tasteless, under-seasoned version of a pasta dish I have ever known. You would get more flavour out of a 99p microwave “ping dinner” from a supermarket. In the time we were sat there, lots of passers by were obviously looking for somewhere to eat and stopped to consult the menu. Every couple or group looked at each other and shrugged indifferently and walked on. Not one single person came in. I found myself wishing I’d also looked at the menu before walking in, but didn’t as I was led to believe it was the wonderful family run restaurant it used to be. Given that the staff are welcoming and enthusiastic, this place needs to sack the chef and replace him/her with someone who knows how to cook basic pasta dishes and can bring a creative update to the horrendous menu. Until that happens, I’m afraid I wouldn’t touch it again with the proverbial barge pole."

Gourmet Burger Kitchen

Gourmet Burger Kitchen

7 Lendal, York, YO18AQ, YO1 8AQ, United Kingdom

Wine • Kebab • Mexican • Burgers

"Gourmet Burger Kitchen (or GBK to those in the know is a relatively new addition to York’s eateries, having sprung up on Lendal about a year ago. As such it’s still very smart and shiny inside, with lots of glass and nice-looking wood poshing' up the interior enough to signify that this is NOT a fast food restaurant. No bright plastics used here! (I must confess to a nasty habit of forgetfully calling it ‘Gourmet Burger King’!)GBK specialises in top quality burgers and what a choice! There are about ten different choices of beef burger, four chicken, five vegetarian and five extra-special specials (buffalo or wild boar burger anyone? Everything is extremely tasty, but having worked my way through a fair bit of the menu I have settled on the rather “old school” favourite of the cheeseburger! Burgers are all under a tenner, but you do have to get fries and sides separately. An average meal with wine would be but you can reduce that enormously by laying your hands on a for voucher (available on the internet at the moment).Would definitely recommend GBK for a quick bite at the start of your evening, as the quality of burger will not be found elsewhere in York. However, it’s not a great venue for a leisurely meal with friends, as they don’t seem to expect you to want to take your time over things. My friend and I enjoyed burgers and bottle of wine while diners around us came and went; we ended up sitting in a deserted restaurant being hoovered around and cash very noisily being counted up … and it was only"

George's Fish and Souvlaki Bar

George's Fish and Souvlaki Bar

164 Georges Lane London, E18 1AY, United Kingdom

Fish • Beer • Greek • Seafood

"Today I went to @georgesfishbar In #southwoodford which isn’t just your usual fish and chip bar, they also serve the yummiest Greek Cypriot food too George’s was established in 2006 has since won so many different awards for their food- which you can view on their website. On arrival I was greeted by the owner himself George who made me feel so welcome. The shop was very busy with queues out of the door but After trying their food I could sure see why ! Tonight I had their chicken Gyros, Chips, Halloumi, Greek Salad, Cod, my parents had a chicken souvlakia each. All of the food was just so delicious !! The gyros was the best I’ve ever had. The meat was ever so fresh and tender and the actual gyros in pitta was bursting with so much flavour. The chips were the best I’ve ever had too and my parents also agreed. They had a gorgeous sweet taste to them and were cooked to pure perfection and trust me it’s definitely possible to mess chips up. The chips were also lovely thick just how I love them to be. The chicken souvlakia was also gorgeous the chicken was very tender there was plenty of it as was there plenty of salad. The fish was also delicious extremely meaty and more fish than batter which is what I love as usually most fish bars tend to give you mainly batter and hardly any fish!! All of @georgesfishbar food is 10/10 from me and extremely high quality as well as huge portions. You can definitely see how much love and effort goes into their food that all of the ingredients used are of the highest quality. The fish bar itself is also spotlessly clean and covid safe. I definitely recommend everyone to try @georgesfishbar whether it’s for just fish and chips or Greek Cypriot food or both. You won’t be disappointed ! @georgesfishbar is currently undergoing Renovation but will be open fully very soon when restaurants are allowed to reopen for seating inside. For now @georgesfishbar deliver obviously do take away.
