"Despite having made an online reservation for a special birthday celebration for a friend—a table for three at 2 PM on Thursday, June 7—and receiving a confirmation for booking number 14, we arrived at ASK Islington for our lunch only to discover that it was permanently closed. We felt cheated, embarrassed, and disappointed. "A busy night because of a music gig nearby and I expect it caused extra pressure in the kitchen. Our starters arrived at very different times, but with an apology. My partners pasta was divine, as was the garlic bread and beetroot and goat cheese balls with chilli dip. Sadly my main was on a stone cold plate with cold broccoli and a little pot of cold sauce. The ‘roast’ baby potatoes were simply boiled new potatoes which had been flattened on a pan to blacken and burn them. Worst still they definitely tasted of fish, I expect that the same grill/implements were used for both. However the actual chicken Milinase was tender, crisp on the outside and very tasty. We had an issue with dessert. We followed the instructions and used the QR code to book the 2 desserts. To save time I paid the bill and added the tip. Unfortunately this closed our tables account and the kitchen had no record of the order. The app does not give you any chance to get a receipt and I was unable to easily prove we had paid. Except my Apple pay said that £102 had been deducted from my account. Eventually, while we were getting the issue sorted another waiter arrived with the missing desserts. I think the QR code idea is fabulous but it was a bit glitchy tonight."

"The service at this restaurant is fantastic, the food is amazing, and the atmosphere is lovely. It is not overly expensive and the portions are a good size. I would highly recommend trying the Warm Cookie Salted Caramel Gelato and the Spaghetti Bolognese. The overall experience deserves a 5 out of 5 for food, service, and atmosphere. The average price per person for dinner is between £20-30."

"First time I've had or even heard of ASK Italian but glad I found out. I did want a cheeky Nandos but the queue was ridiculous and ASK had a few tables and no queue... Sat and seen to pretty quickly and given a free shot of lemonade while we pondered over the menu and asked if every course was okay and attentive to our drinks when they were empty. We had a really lovely woman who served us. Starter: calamari delicious, light, fluffy coating on the outside with just the right amount of sauce to dip in to. Arancini balls (wife's) where very tasty too. Main: calzone absolutely packed with hot delicious meats and sauce. Not like a lot of places where you get 25% filling and 75% dough. Dessert: baked chocolate gnocchi I don't have much of a sweet tooth but this was absolutely without a doubt, one of my favourite desserts I've ever had!! The pastry was hot/warm/fresh, dipped into chocolate and then with a bite you find this smooth warm chocolate inside... I would go back for this alone! But while I'm there I'd definitely have it all again. Cant fault the food or the service one bit. Gotta give it 4* purely because it's a family place and there's young humans about who can be a bit loud and distracting. Also found the seating functional and not comfy for a sit down meal."

"We go quite regularly as it is a convenient place for us three couples to meet and the food is quite good usually. This time though we had a couple of complaints to make, the starter described as on brioche, which three of our party had, was, it appeared, tomatoes on toast. I ordered the butternut squash risotto which really was pretty disgusting, a dish of slop totally unrecognisable in look or taste as rice. It was graciously and with apologies replaced with my choice of the chicken and mushroom risotto. delicious! But we shouldn't have to complain it really isn't nice"

"Good location in the heart of Lichfield with outside seating and views of the cathedral. All staff offered first class service which was always polite, pleasant and efficient. I particularly would like to thank the young man who in advance chilled us a bottle of red which is so difficult to get in this country. The food was a delight for all three courses. We shall definitely add this to our list of favourites and have no hesitation in recommending a visit."

"Our 20 yr old student son was visiting Ipswich as part of an upcoming placement. He had to stay in a hotel for two nights on his own and eat out for dinner as nothing available in the hotel. He went to ASK at around 6.30pm and asked for a table … he was told they ‘already had too many’ despite all the empty tables and him being on his own. Very offhand and rude and made him feel very uncomfortable. On phoning afterwards we were told they were short staffed and having a difficult day. Nice of them to take it out on a young man on his own. Shameful behaviour! The reality is he was one person, it was early doors, and all he wanted was a warm meal after a long day. He wouldn’t have been taking a table up all night and making demands on the staff. If you happen to find yourself in a similar situation save yourself the trouble and just go to Prezzo. Or just go to Prezzo in any event."

"We were attended to in good time and shown to our table in the garden there were 2 of us and we were seated in the garden (which we asked for) but the table for 2 is right in the middle of a paved area with the other tables around the edge not very private. We ordered a bottle of wine it came in boiling hot wine cooler and the bottle of wine (white wine) was warm. When I pointed this out to the waitress she said it couldn't be helped as the wine coolers were kept on top of where the coffee machine was. I said I sympathised but that we didn't ask for a bottle of warm white wine. I asked if she would please bring some ice to put in the cooler which she did but is was still warm and never really got cold all the time we were there. The food was ok but not as good as the previous time we were there, it was served lukewarm."

"On arriving at Ask on 30th December, the staff had no record of my online booking even though I followed up with a phone call ahead of the day to confirm a high chair was required. My friends and I found the staff unsympathetic to our predicament and made us feel like the error was our fault rather than OpenTable or Ask. Even an apology at the time would have softened our disappointment but instead the staff seemed rude and unfriendly. There was no space to accommodate us for lunch even though I had made a booking so we were forced to leave in the hope that we could find somewhere to eat. Thankfully Prezzo in Marlborough managed to find us a table and we were really impressed by the friendly and accommodating staff. A sharp contrast to our experience with the staff at Ask. We had travelled some distance to meet in Marlborough for a birthday lunch and sadly we left Ask frustrated at the lack of friendly reception at the restaurant. Due to this unacceptable experience, I will not be using Open Table again for any bookings and we will not be returning to Ask in Marlborough."

"Massive cry to Marie We went for a quick tea with our toddler and had the best eating experience since parents to be! Marie took care of us and paid special attention to our daughter to make sure she was entertaining and had the best food. Our daughter usually wants to walk around and is not often interested in her food, but Marie's top service and the delicious food for adults and children ensured that we all ate together and we all ate hot food at the same time. "This restaurant is a revelation. There is a separate vegan menu with a good range of choice. I had Spaghetti with Lentil Ragu, which was so, so good. The underlying tomato sauce base was rich and delicious and then to this had been added a generous quantity of brown lentils and other vegetables which had been cooked to perfection. I learned later that Theo Randall works with Ask to develop their dishes so this helps explain the outstanding quality of what I had just eaten. For dessert it was a Chocolate Torte with a scoop of Raspberry Sorbet. Again the quality was outstanding. I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough. It was a joy to eat there. If Happy Cow allowed it I would give it 5*."

"I did not try to ask for a few years because on my last visit they did not have vegan options and their ingredients tabular calculation was not particularly accurate. but then I saw someone on facebook mention that not only vegan options, but a completely separate vegan menu! and it is true! I visited today and had a delicious vegan starter, vegan main and vegan desert! and I also did not stay with an option fixed, there were three I could choose from and on the back of the vegan menu was a vegan beverage menu! well made question! I will be back regularly and I will bring friends."

"Visited lunch time without a booking and the rest was extremely busy. The manager was really helpful and accommodating and found me and my two young sons a table quickly. The food came out fast and hot and was really fresh and tasty. The waitress really engaged with us and made us feel comfortable. The manager came over to check on us a few times and made sure the children were happy. It was lovely to see all the staff happy at work and the place was buzzing with a great atmosphere of people enjoying their lunch. This branch is obviously run very well and we will definitely be returning to visit again soon"

"we visited a lunchtime and eating and service were excellent. just a week later I can only forgive three stars, and that feels generous. this time, however, do not fully customer. I have always sympathy for waiting for employees in any restaurant, as if they shame that they have been reworked and under paid. but why should the main ingredient be so variable in each operation? this time it was dirty: slow and freaked out. Nobody smiled. the tables have set and tied up while we waited for the dessert menu to catch the eye of the waitress without success. after what seemed like an old one we gave up, paid for the net and went elsewhere. the food was ok tho’ pasta and spargel boiled, not only al dente. no chance to ask it as no one was interested. other court ok, but not as good as previous week. but in my experience it is the service that does or breaks. this time it was broken."

"I have just about visited every casual dining Italian food chain present in London this outlet near Warren Str station boasts spacious basement area, very polite and well trained waitressing staff and a free shot of house lemonade on arrival. We ordered crispy calamari for starters, with garlic mayo, very tasty, Italian olives always a good choice. For mains we took a mixed meat pizza and chicken/mushroom, took a while to prepare. When they arrived they were oval shaped, on a thick-ish crust. Chicken pizza was very bland, could do with some chili oil on the table. Otherwise, very respectable place and good value, and again very nice service!"

"3 of us came at approx 8pm on a friday night, and the restaurant was pretty quiet. The first thing we noticed was how cold it was, the air con was turned up to max which is a bit excessive on a coolish evening. Drinks like most restaurants are fairly pricey, we thought £4.10 for a glass of wine was a bit ridiculous so all had soft drinks instead. The risotto verde was tasty enough but was a small portion for the price. The seafood linguini was basically tomato sauce on pasta with a few shrunken shell fish on top, (in the shells . Not great value for money really but tasted ok. Cant comment on the shell fish as there wasnt enough of it to comment on, all shell and no fish ; The pizza my friend ordered was slightly overcooked so a bit dry, we all wanted to eat together so she didnt ask for a new one as it would have meant her eating after us. We were brought drinks then left 20 minutes before being asked our food order, we tried to get the attention of the service staff a few times but no one noticed. Same happened when waiting to ask for the bill.. no one to ask for it. The staff seemed friendlhy enough but most definitely not Italian haha (which of course isnt a must to work there but it seems that these type of restaurants make the effort to hire italian staff in city centre branches like liverpool, manchester and london but less so in other places. We didnt particualrily enjoy our visit there, it wasnt relaxing or feel warm and inviting. Quite basic interior and tables. We probably wont go again unfortunately."

"it took 90 minutes to get 2 courses the first cure was really terrible and the chips were on places black . also it was warm, not hot, obviously after having been left to boil. We mentioned that to the waitress and she said she was going to tell the kitchen. the main course lasted 35 minutes to come after and it was very bad. the waitress said that she would make a change request to the bill, and when we asked her, she said that we don't have to pay because she appreciates how terrible it was and how disappointed we were."
