"We popped in for a coffee one afternoon and it's clear why people pre book. The selection was huge, with people having larger lunches, snacks and (for us) cake and cuppa. The place was immaculate, the service perfect, so good we returned earlier the next day without the sleepy teens for a cooked breakfast! Combined with a wander around the garden centre and farm shop, picked up some nice foodie souvenirs and garden ornaments to remember our holiday. Lovely place for a rainy day too. Cake selection was amazing!"

"great view from the magnificent caffe in front of the place. the menu offers a great choice on lunchtime, snacks, among them delicious homemade cakes and hearty choices. also a good selection of refreshments and a beautiful place only for a coffee. not swimming, but others were and it looked incredibly inviting on the sunny day I stopped. the pool is cold water, but for those who want to rent wetsuite is £5. the entry is 3 pounds or 2 pounds concession. Inflatable days on a Sunday at the moment is then free. Not sure that the deep of the pool for those who learn to swim, but there is a very flat paddliong pool next to the large pool."

"My family and I came to this restaurant for a birthday meal with 6 adults and 6 kids. The service was great and the food was delicious. We were happy with everything until one of us overheard staff in the bathroom saying they thought we would be annoying, but actually found us to be nice. However, there was some mess, caused by 2 kids under the age of 1, who each had a paid-for kids meal. This restaurant is our go-to spot for family birthdays, and we usually have no complaints. But today, we felt that the staff's comments were rude when they thought we had left, even though we had been nothing but polite. Our children were well-behaved and remained seated unless using the kids' toy machine or going to the bathroom. They did not run around the restaurant or cause any disruptions."

"I can't speak highly enough of our experience....We went out for an early-evening birthday meal on the day before Valentine's, and we had the place to ourselves. It felt cosy despite its size; so we had a perfect table overlooking the main beach, and despite a severe gale blowing there was not the slightest draught. The waitress was exemplary in her friendliness, unobtrusive attention, and willingness to help; the food arrived promptly and was immaculately presented. The two starters were excellent... better than the equivalent at some other highly rated restaurants in Aberystwyth. The mains were more than ample in quantity, obviously very freshly cooked and tasty. The house red wine (Merlot) was okay. Even the toilets were excellent! It is very unjust that this restaurant seems less patronised than others...maybe because of its obscure location tucked away behind the amusement arcades? The newish decor might not be to everyone's taste, but is inoffensive. A great asset to the town (please, not to be lost) and credit to the staff!"

"We were visiting family in the area and they had booked a table for a Sunday evening. Soon as we walked through the doors the staff were very helpful and attentive and the atmosphere very welcoming. Our eldest son is autistic so eating out can...be a challenge but it seemed that he even found the atmosphere very relaxing and settled quickly. The food was excellently cooked and we enjoyed the mains and desserts that we ordered. The only downside is that service was a little slow but the quality of food more than made up for this and definatley was worth waiting for. We will definatley visit again after having such a pleasant evening."

"My husband I have been here for breakfast on 2 occasions have had the Maple Pancakes which are delicious- definitely the best pancakes we have eaten in a long time. Unfortunately my hot chocolate didn’t taste nice, I was unable to drink it, hence the 4 stars not 5. But we highly recommend the pancakes."

"A brilliant pub! The service from booking onwards was great. We were kept informed with emails and calls for booking dinner and to confirm any extras we may have needed. Used the bunkhouse which was perfect for our 8 strong group; inexpensive, clean and with all the basic facilities we needed for our group. Andy and Jono were great in the bar; service was great and they couldn’t do enough for our big group. Food was served quickly despite being busy and was delicious pub food and the perfect accompaniment to the beer we had earned after the Yorkshire Three Peaks. We’ll be starting and finishing here in the future rather than the usual Horton commencement. A Yorkshire gem."

"Excellent friendly pub with great food dog friendly! We stopped a couple of nights in our Motorhome in the car park were made very welcome! A bit of a tight turn up into the car park, but possible with our 7m van! There is water supply electric if needed! Will definitely come back!"

"Dukes is a spacious restaurant that we stumbled upon during our long weekend in Sidmouth. We made a reservation for Sunday lunch (they also offer roasts), but opted for a couple of bowls of salt, chilli, and ginger squid instead. The squid, mostly whole baby squid, were delicious with the ginger and soy dipping sauce. It would have been nice to have a wedge of lemon and a sweet chilli dip as well. For our main courses, we had the traditional battered cod and chips and a fish pie. Both dishes were tasty, but I wish the fish pie had more variety of fish, as it only included salmon and white fish; some prawns and monkfish would have been a nice addition, especially considering the price of £19. We also enjoyed a non-alcoholic IPA and a cola, bringing our total bill to a somewhat expensive £66. The service was good, and we appreciated that automatic service charging is not customary in Sidmouth. We left a £7 cash tip for our efficient server. Sidmouth is a dog-friendly village, so be prepared to dine alongside well-behaved canine companions."

"Not worth the risk if they use predatory and manipulative parking companies. We have been loyal and long term customers but after my dad input his car reg incorrectly (as he is not very tech savvy) we have been chased by ParkingEye's predatory fine practices and left with a hefty fine even after submitting photos and bank statements proving we were customers at the exact same time as the parking fine. In their defense they did offer to help however we had already started an appeal due to the predatory language and threat of ridiculous price increases. As such they were unable to cancel the fine after an appeal was submitted. I Really like the area as my family come from the Salts mill town, with my 90 year old grandad who grew up down the road we often take for a meal. We often visit with lots of family and friends but this has left us with a bad experience. Not worth the risk, many other tap houses/restaurants in the area that are probably worth supporting instead. Sad when a company can’t help customers due to an automated and predatory parking fine."

"Typical seaside cafe bistro offering a good variety of vegan options located in the heart of the main tourist attraction. Food is not high end gourmet but highly appreciated at the end of your hike along the coastline. We paid £24 for 2 x fishless fingers baps (that came with crisps and salad), 1 x bowl of chips, 1 x mushy peas, 1 x curry sauce, 2 x 500ml cold drinks."

"Between October 2019 and January 2020, I found myself working in Hammersmith at a job that I hated. The workload was completely unmanageable so every day in the office was frantic. I worked flat-out but at the end of each day, I hadn’t got any nearer to getting on top of my workload than I was at the start of the day. This was a miserable chapter in my life to be sure but one of the few good things about this period was that I discovered Bäkehaus, a German bakery and coffee shop. My place of work was located just behind King Street so I used to escape my desk at lunchtime to go to Bäkehaus for something to eat. This restaurant became my little sanctuary during this time, a place of calm and cosiness which was the perfect antidote to my horrible office. As the name suggests, Bäkehaus bake their own fresh bread every day. In addition to bread, there are pastries, cakes, filled baguettes, salads, fresh oven-baked pizza and hot dogs available to buy. The food here is fantastic. I usually opted for a baguette and my favourite was the chicken and avocado, which was crammed with thick slices of both and garnished with salad leaves. The baguette bread is just as it should be: crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The salads are really good, too. They usually consist of the same contents as the baguettes, except they’re served in a box without the bread. I used to like the chicken and avocado salad, too (what can I say, I’m a creature of habit! , and thought the little pot of balsamic vinaigrette included in the box was a really nice touch; it’s lovely to drizzle on your salad or to dunk a freshly-baked bread roll into. My only grumble about the lunch options was that they didn’t have many sides to go with a baguette or a salad. They only sell one flavour of crisps but even these weren’t always available and the only other option was a yoghurt and granola pot, served with either chopped strawberry or mango. The yoghurt was delicious but not something I wanted to eat every day so it would have been nice if there were some other options available, for example soup of fresh fruit. I only tried the pizza once but this was a hit, too. Served piping hot out of the oven, you get a very large slice for a reasonable price. I had the pepperoni topping and was really impressed with it: picture a crispy crust and strings of gooey mozzarella as you take a bite. There are lots of other toppings to try as well if you don’t fancy pepperoni. I didn’t try any of the hot dogs because I was trying to eat healthily (and they are also quite pricey but I definitely want to go back to try one because they looked delicious. They serve a really good cup of coffee that is presented to you in a modern china cup and saucer (better than the paper cups you get in some other establishments and the hot chocolate is rich and velvety and a lovely treat on a cold winter’s day. A perfect companion to one of Bäkehaus’ hot drinks is a slice of one of their freshly baked cakes. Actually, slab might be a better noun to use rather than slice because the cakes are enormous and you get a really big piece for your money. I tried the apple pie which is really good; the pastry is subtly sweet and there a big chunks of apple inside. As I mentioned above, the atmosphere in Bäkehaus is lovely, especially in the run up to Christmas, which is when I visited most often. The staff greeted me with a smile and were always helpful and polite. The restaurant is lit with warm yellow lighting and was decorated with lots of white fairy lights for the festive season. When looking from the inside out on to the cold blue light of King Street, it felt really cosy inside. Added to this, Christmas classics like “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Let It Snow” played on the stereo, which gave it an almost magical feel and many times I didn’t want to leave. Bäkehaus is a real gem offering something a little bit different in terms of food and atmosphere compared to the other usual suspects that appear on King Street. I quit my awful job at the end of January and am much happier in my new role. I’m so grateful I discovered Bäkehaus because it was a sanctuary for me during this time and I’ll always have fond memories of it."

"A beautiful place. Warm welcome, but the staff seemed busy and we waited an inconvenient amount of time to settle the bill. The afternoon tea was nice, although I did not request open sandwiches that were awkward to eat and I ended up giving some to my husband because he was still hungry. Compared to similar experiences, I'm sorry, it's not my favorite."

"Best food in Edinburgh. The Orchard is quite simply my favourite restaurant in Edinburgh and I would urge everyone to try it. The food is exceptional from modern roast dinners, to souffle, to venison in chocolate and cherry gravy. All with a modern take and all very, very good. The staff are really helpful and the ambience is great, very chilled. There's a good range of types of spirits, beer etc. The place itself is bright and sunny, but for me the real winner is the food. In a city with so many excellent restaurants, the Orchard stands out as one of the best. I'm reluctant to let others know because it will get over-run once it's more widely discovered but it deserves to be. No one I...read more"

"Pleasantly decorated Bistro, popular at lunchtime, afternoon (best cappachino in Argyll, great scones and cream), and we attended the Valentines Dinner. The place was packed, had a superb atmosphere, with so many locals who chatted after their delicious dinner was over. We had a very interesting Game Terrine, Beetroot Soup, both had Roast Pork, Italian Style, Exotic Fruit salad to finish, then petit fours made by a local expert, dash of Expresso, and a free dram of decent whisky. My comments are valid as we live along the front so use it fairly often at different times. Being transported there and back was a welcome bonus as we then enjoyed a bottle of wine, (or more). Looking forward to summer when the Bistro will be open on a more regular basis. Great to have 2 good eating places in Bonnie Strachur."

"Do not come here! Absolutely shocking service and staff attitude in this establishment. My partner and I ordered our food, 40 minutes went by and tables seated after us were receiving their orders before we had so much as a starter. It became very clear they had not passed our ticket to the kitchen. When I asked one of their teenage waiters what was the hold up was, there was absolutely no concern for issue. It then took a further 15 minutes for a manager to resolve the problem. Today we tried again as the restaurant has a nice outdoor seating area, however, upon our entry to the bar area no one came to seat us or even acknowledge we were standing there. We left and will never return."

"Not many cafes or restaurants open in Thurso on a Monday so we opted for Y’Not because we have been there a few times in the past. The restaurant and toilets were very clean. There was only one lad serving, clearing tables, taking orders, dealing with queries and making drinks. There was another staff member around but I’m not too sure what his role was. I was there with my husband and our two year old and nine month old granddaughters. We were presented with 4 adult menus. No idea why we would need 4. I asked for a child menu which quickly arrived. We ordered drinks but the coffees aren’t exactly full. I also ordered a bottle of water which arrived with no glass. I asked for a glass and was presented with a whisky tumbler! We ordered a child’s macaroni, a steak ciabatta and a Highland burger. We then waited approximately 50 minutes for it to arrive even though only one table had food during that time. When the food did arrive the steak ciabatta didn’t have fried onions or corn on the cob as stated on the menu. There was a generous helping of onion relish though. The meal could have been hotter but it was really, really tasty and the steak was cooked the way I liked it and the ciabatta was packed with steak. It would have been better with thicker chips and not stringy fries. The Highland burger was also tasty but it was only warm. The kids macaroni tasted like ready made sauce and had no cheese on top. It was almost cold. We asked for a second cappuccino but it didn’t arrive. Overall, we will come back. The food is good, just not hot enough and it takes far too long to arrive at the table. The front of house staff needs assistance. He’s definitely over worked at busy times. This could be a great restaurant if the niggles are sorted."
