"The most horrendous restaurant experience of my life to date. Greeted by an arrogant waiter, we were moaned at because they had got the number of diners wrong on the booking (the extra diner was my 7 year old nephew, which I had told the waitress about when I booked the table). The waiter sat us at a different table and said ‘since you have an extra person we weren’t aware of, is there any other allergies on the table?’ I had already informed the waitress when I booked that the 7 year old had a nut allergy. She said it was fine if he was okay with traces. The rude waiter said ‘we can’t serve any customers that have someone with a life threatening allergy with them, is it life threatening?’ We said he is okay with traces but he can’t eat an actual peanut and does carry an EpiPen! He said ‘it’s a really simple question, is the allergy life threatening, yes or no?!’ We then asked if it was okay if we got my nephew some fish and chips instead and the waiter said he would have to eat it outside. Whilst this is not only rude and obnoxious, it is discrimination!! Our last night in Fowey for my dad’s 60th Birthday, left with no where to eat, caused by a pretentious restaurant who clearly don’t want to pay the insurance to allow people with allergies to eat at their restaurants. As a fellow hospitality worker, not once in all my work-life have I experienced, or condone this kind of treatment. Nor in my personal dining experience have I had to leave a restaurant, prior to even ordering a drink, feeling angry and embarrassed, with my 7 year old nephew apologising to my whole family because he has a nut allergy. The group owners should be ashamed of themselves; a disgrace to the industry."
