"Arrived for dinner for my husbands 40th Birthday 2 weeks ago now after booking a month ahead for our celebration.Received an email earlier in the week reminding us of our reservation.Arrived suited and booted and excited to find the place in darkness!!No call, no sign, a pile of post on their mat!! We were furious, why couldn't we have at least gotten a call or an email to cancel our booking.Later found out the owner has decided to close permanently shame he gave no thought to actually doing the decent thing and telling people. We hadn't had a child free night out since before covid, had paid a babysitter and for taxis.....shame there was no Michelin Star service or thought to customers. Others people were also arriving disappointed!!"

I wish that there were more stars to give to this wonderful restaurant. Absolutely gorgeous food and lovely staff. I cannot recommend this place enough.

Food didn’t meet my expectations but for its price, I would say it’s of good value and worth trying if you are around. Not recommending drive more than 1 hour for this. I would give 4 stars if service can be improved.

The food and wine was amazing. However, I was served with a chipped plate for one of my 4 courses which I mentioned to our lady server who told us the chef was waiting on a new order of plates! We began chatting to another lunching couple and had to forgo having our coffee to finalise our meal as the restaurant formerly closes at 4pm and this was now 4.20pm when we asked for coffee.I suggested to our lady server that in future it may be a good idea to remind customers that perhaps as it was nearly closing time they may like to order their coffee with the desert. Terrible customer service. I booked a table for a wedding anniversary back in February for beginning of May. A few days ago my husband mentioned that someone had tweeted saying restaurant Tristan was closed for 6 weeks and their website also said this. I was very confused as my reservation had been confirmed.I then called, emailed and even went to the restaurant in person and couldn’t speak to anyone. The night before our anniversary and reservation I finally receive an email from the reservation company telling me my reservation had been cancelled with no explanation or any personal message. I’m outraged at such terrible customer service and will not be dining at y Tristan in the future.

Wasn’t blown away.I don’t have a lot of restaurant experience a tiny bit when I was at uni) but when I looked around the restaurant, almost every table was waiting for their next course, with the plates from the previous course still there. The wait staff were huddled around the counter and I remember always being told ‘never’ to stand around and chat in all of the part-time jobs I’ve ever had.The best bit was the freshly toasted walnut in one of the first courses… I told the girl downstairs that it was way better than any walnut we could buy pre-packaged from a supermarket! My partner and I ended up giving up waiting, and asked for the bill £240.77) and left as politely as we possibly could.

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"

"Service: 11/10 Starter: Calamari Duck Parfait - 10/10 Main Course 1: 50-Day Aged Fillet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce (cooked *Blue*) - 100/10 Main Course 2: Fish and Chips - 9/10 Dessert: Hot Brownie - Over 9000! I want to extend my thanks to the front-of-house team for their warm welcome. Although we arrived a bit late, they were incredibly accommodating. Special thanks to Irvana (I hope I spelled that correctly) for providing excellent service! My steak experience took me on a nostalgic journey—like Anton Ego savoring his ratatouille in Gusto’s restaurant. It reminded me of a family meal in Holland during my childhood, where I had my first real steak. This may have even surpassed that memory! I was initially hesitant about dining at Miller and Carter since it's a chain restaurant, but if you're feeling the same way, let me assure you: don't be. While it may not be the cheapest option, it definitely deserves a smart-casual dress code that anyone who understands proper dining etiquette should respect. Curious, I browsed through other reviews, and I found it hard to believe anyone could leave a 1-star review without sounding like a “Karen.” It’s important to take reviews with a grain of salt—this is truly a fantastic restaurant! In summary, if you're a fan of steak, this place will take great care of you and provide excellent recommendations for how to enjoy your meal just the way you like it. Perfect!"
