"The food at this restaurant is good and the prices are reasonable. I got a panini and chips for 6 pounds, which was alright. I also ordered food for my friends and everyone enjoyed their meals. The salt and chilli wrap was particularly tasty. The salad box was okay, but could have had more filling. Overall, we all really enjoyed our meals and found the staff to be friendly. The service was prompt and efficient. I would rate the food and service a 5, and the atmosphere a 3."

"I can’t say much about the place other than that it was a disappointing visit. I was looking for a restaurant near the river to take some colleagues for lunch, and when I arrived at 1:30 PM, I could hear babies crying from a hundred yards away! There was no indication of this beforehand, and I was really relieved that I checked it out first. This place is definitely not suitable for a work lunch."

"Poor poor poor! Arrived for breakfast at 11am had to wait for menus fortunately asked to order drinks immediately these then took 15 minutes. Finally ordered breakfast and after waiting for half an hour politely enquired how long they thought it would be for our food to arrive ….To be told a further 25 I was slightly shocked at this and enquired why we weren’t warned the food would take up to an hour? Staff unhelpful. we won’t be returning. Spent about £65 on five breakfasts and drinks and would much rather go somewhere we would actually enjoy! A real Shame if the waitresses seemed interested in taking your order and being efficient could probably make a killing in tips and turn more tables Probably down to poor training Lovely view but would give it a miss!"

"A really disappointing experience. When I arrived all the staff were busy, so I took a seat. I got essentially told off by a waitress for this. My mistake, I thought, so just forgot about it. I arrived at Noon at it took 20 minutes to take my drinks order and I didn’t get order any food until gone 12.45pm. Again though, they had warned that the kitchen was a little behind (they said 10 minutes) and a large group arrived just after me so no big deal. Then, as one of our group went to the toilet a waitress grabbed the empty chair (without asking) to give to another group. We very politely informed them that there was in fact someone sitting there. “You should have put a bag there, then” came the reply. Very unpleasant totally unreasonable. "We popped in during the heatwave to ask about booking a table for dinner later, and it was beautifully air conditioned so we stayed for a few drinks before eating rather than going anywhere else, and I’m glad we did. Staff were very friendly and made me a gorgeous Margarita even though it wasn’t on the menu. Food service was also excellent, they have a great team of happy staff which adds to the pleasant atmosphere. Food was lovely, great quality and we will definitely return!"

"On a wet and windy Saturday morning four of us were in need of hearty breakfast. We weren't disappointed. Virtually every eatery in Portree was closed for some reason. As we trudged around town through the wind and rain, the unmistakable smell of fried bacon filled our nostrils. We followed our noses and were led to The Caledonian Cafe. Not long after sitting at a table, we were warmly greeted by one of the staff. She took our order large quantities of fried food, tea and Irn Bru. The drinks soon arrived, followed by our fried breakfasts. Now, I do like a fried breakfast, and this one was exceptional. All of the food arrived without any grease on the plate. The fried egg was perfect slightly frilly and crispy around the edges with a lovely runny yolk. I'd never had a tattie scone or a Lorne sausage before both were delicious. We left the cafe more than satisfied with full bellies and smiles on our faces.... despite the driving rain!"

"This place is fantastic. The staff were all friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. The distillery tour is great, and you get to taste whisky, vodka, and gin at the end. The shop has a great selection of spirits and is very well-kept. The bistro on site is a bit pricey for what you get - I found my beef sandwich to be a bit lacking for £13.50. However, the whisky tour was the highlight for me, with plenty of on-site parking and a beautiful setting. Kudos to the staff and owners for creating such a great experience. Well done!"

"Our first visit today. Lovely welcome on arrival, drinks arrived quickly and it was very relaxed. We both ordered pasta dishes arrabiata neapolitana. Really delicious food! The decor is clean and fresh with a second room to the rear. It was just us two eating in although a couple of people came in for takeaway. The cafe does not have a drinks licence but you are welcome to take your own and they do not charge corkage. However they are only open during the day so perhaps this is not an issue. We will definitely visit again."

"Have been here many times most is good experiences, have seen it slip down hill the last few times! My second to last visit the owner was sat on his phone at a table no greeting when we walked in no nothing! I then asked for a high chair for him to turn and look at us and shrugged his shoulders and said got none it broke then walked away! Put it down to maybe a bad day for him! Visit today yet again cafe empty him sat on his phone at a table walked in no greeting other than him staring at us! No other staff members there, for my sister to ask for something and him say no not got it then hurried her to for something else. Placed our plates on the table and walked off! Our order was wrong when we went to tell him he was outside smoking half way up the road! Considering no other staff members were in there just me and my sister! Who leaves their cafe unattended with customers!! For him to come back about 15 minutes later I told him the order was wrong he laughed in our face and said you only telling me now!! Told him yes because you’d been up the road smoking for 15 minutes while having customers in your cafe!!! He was the rudest most unwelcoming person I’ve ever met!! So moody and customer service skills! Safe to say we won’t ever be returning and it seems no one else does anymore as the cafe is always empty when it use to be full!! Says a lot."

"I used to enjoy breakfast at the old man's place, and I understand how things can change with new ownership. I’m happy to report that since the new owners took over, the breakfast sandwiches are still excellent. During my visits around Northfield, especially when Tyler was closed, I've discovered that this is the best spot to go for breakfast. Typically, I order sandwiches for five people, and the orders are always accurate and well-prepared. The staff is friendly and attentive to my requests, and the food is great. Looking forward to coming back next weekend!"
