"I haven't been able to visit lower Charminster for a couple of years or so. I was very hungry early evening on Tuesday 17th August 2021 and I went that way to order a favourite of mine, which is a chicken korma curry at the...Curry Master. I was disappointed to find it closed. This turned into a lucky day! Roxy's Bistro Bar was open. I went in and I was overjoyed to see Roxy herself on duty. Years ago I was a regular at Roxy's and virtually every time I went in Roxy was often working alone. I always enjoyed the food and a few pints of Becks. I mentioned to Roxy that my favourite pint is a Guinness. Much to my delight Roxy took note and announced on my next visit that canned Guinness with a widget inside was now on the drinks menu. It was delicious surprise from a can. Roxy has upstaged this can since then. Now another type of can is available. The Guinness is first poured into a glass and then placed on what appears to be an ultrasonic plate for a period of time. The result is as if it was poured from the traditional nitrogen gas hand pump. It's so close, it's not worth mentioning the subtle difference. I mentioned to Roxy I was starving and I would like to see the menu. Bless Roxy for remembering my preference for meat and fries. I went for Roxy's suggestion of a Today's Special of BBQ ribs with fries. The fries were unlike any I have had before, they were not out of fat frier for sure. They were delicious! The meat on the ribs was succulent and melted in my mouth with a wonderful tasting glazed sauce as a compliment. I enjoyed the fries even more when I dipped them in a pot of sauce which accompanied the me. No surprises for getting a great drink and a meal. What was really great is to find Roxy is back in her Bistro after taking a break from the restaurant to bring two lovely girls into the world. I recommended the Bistro years ago and I endorse the Bistro today. Do pop in and see for yourself. If you have a favourite and it's not on the menu mention it to Roxy and perhaps you'll find it available next time you visit? WELCOME BACK ROXY!"

"Booked a room here the day before arrival, which to be honest, due to circumstances beyond my control had to cancel early on the day before arrival. Arrived yesterday with my gf, walked into the bar, and ordered 2 drinks whilst saying I had booked a room. But which I cancelled but need the room now please if available. Bar man looked at me blankly and said your the guy who tried to cancel, I sad yes but now we do require the room. Sat down with drinks, to then have a woman (I presume the barman/managers wife) shuffle over to our table. After a long and boring conversation about who booked what and when and who cancelled and why. I said we do require the room after all, she then murmured something about having to put the radiators on then shuffled off. After shuffling back she she said “so you do want the room?” I said yes please if available, she said well can you pay now! In mid pint I do not like to be interrupted, so I said I will pay after I have finished my drink thanks…..shuffles off. Shuffles back…She then delivered the fantastic line “you don’t know whether your coming or going do you” I sipped my pint of neck oil and laughed and said “I do we’re going” and it is possible for someone to cancel and then rebook. We drunk up and left! Pros Lovely little resident dog think he was a terrier, nice lil fella! Maybe employ him behind the bar? Cons awful attitude from bar staff/management Very bates motel/hills have eyes vibe for the film buffs who may read this review. Typical small village pub/hotel locals all crowded rnd the bar with happy smiling shuffler above, then the your from not round here routine to me any my gf. Picked on the wrong guy here though! Recommendation We drank our drinks which were nice, then booked in one minute, to stay at meadow farm hotel. 1 mile away, Great smiley faces of staff greeted us on arrival, had a lovely meal and a few drinks. Room is clean, spacious, and value for money. Avoid the green dragon inn!! Much nicer places/ppl near by."

"Two visits in a week during our London visit to this well-known and reputed fish restaurant. The first visit was on the Sunday, and when we walked in and saw the place completely empty I remarked as a joke that we hadn’t needed to book!...This met with a fairly snarky remark from the lady who worked there, but she was to become borderline hostile later. My son, aged when ordering, asked her politely and civilly how big the cod was (not wanting to order more than he could eat); the lady responded by asking him, in an unfriendly and unhelpful manner, how she was supposed to answer that and that the sizes all differed; she then said “It’s the same size as the haddock” (which I had ordered) which was pretty unhelpful, given that we hadn’t seen the haddock either! It was an unnecessarily hostile response to a polite something like “It’s quite big” or “I’m sure you’ll be able to manage it” would have been far more appropriate and helpful. As it happens, the portions were huge, and the food was excellent great haddock (in matzomeal) and cod, and fabulous chips. The chocolate cake dessert went down well too. The only negative in terms of the actual meal was that the tea I ordered got forgotten about until some way into the meal, but the waitress did remember of their own volition and did apologise. When we returned on the Friday, the same lady was her same unfriendly self. Impressively, she had remembered us from a few days earlier (even though there were now of us rather than just the of us,as they had been on the first visit), and, again, the food was terrific. Whether this place takes the view that its food is so good that it doesn’t need to be especially pleasant to the diners I don’t know. Whether something gets ‘lost in translation’ with this waitress (who speaks with a foreign accent) I don’t know. But I know that when we talk now about this restaurant all we talk about is the unfriendly waitress as opposed to the top-notch food."
