"on a very rare sunny Sunday afternoon I drove to portabello restaurant in oxford for a late lunch. like a bit background for those of them that are not too familiar with oxford, portabello restaurant is known in summertown (nord oxford,) which is a nicer part of oxford. when the sun is outside, it is the perfect place for a walk – there are many small shops, pubs, finer restaurants, the best Italian restaurant (mamma mia) and a weincafé – what else do you need!?"

"Very disappointing experience, I visited on Sunday 22/10/2023 with my wife it was the first time I had been for a while and I was looking forward to it because my wife was raving about the risotto she had whilst there with friends, alas she was even more disappointed as this time round the risotto wasn 't the same and she only ate one spoonful . I started with the Mozzarella Fritti, which was fine and then went for the Penne Arrabbiata (with added Fillet Strips) but to be honest, whilst the sauce was okay the pasta and fillet strips were over cooked. My wife did complain about her risotto explaining how poor it was compared to that which was served on her last visit and this was deducted from the bill, but I had to ask our sever if any of the management team where interested in our experience before a manager came near us. All in a very poor experience in terms of food quality and service. "We were staying upstairs and decided to give the cafe and cellar bar a try. Loved the cellar bar! Amazing! The cafe was lovely but we were a little disappointed at the breakfast menu, all we fancied was a bacon or sausage sandwich. We were surprised there was no typical fried breakfast items on the menu. Overall very nice, we had the Welsh rarebit which was lovely but lacked any salad or garnish on the side. It wouldn’t put us off coming again but maybe not for breakfast."

"very quiet in the evening we were there. we had a few burgers; the Spanish was excellent bark, but the Greek lamb was really overcrowded, the lamb should never be safe. despite the lack of customers who waitress has not really been busy with us, they prefer to disappear into the kitchen, so we are not disturbed to give their feedback. the sides with the burgers were good – fat chips, salat and coleslaw. we drank a good bottle oz shiraz."

"We had been informed about this place by a family member who had visited. We have passed it on many occasions but unfortunately it was closed so whilst on holiday this week we made the effort to go there. I have to day my initial reaction was not to go in as there was no one in at the time. However my partner said otherwise and in We went. Well I am so glad we did...the place so reminded me of some places we had been in Poland. Its very small but so cosy. We had a lovely warm welcome on arrival. We were served very promptly and allowed time to select our food. I choose yhf double cheeseburger and my partner had a poke me bowl plus we had some halomui fries.....we did not have to wait to long for our food. When it arrived it looked so delicious and well presented. It has to be one of the best burgers I gave ever had, the halomui fries were outstanding and my partners poke me bowl was delicious. We most definitely will be going back when we are back in November and not just for one visit...there is enough choice on the menu to keep going back. So if you find yourself in Bishop Auckland them make this a place of destination....you will be amazed."

"Came in this morning after we were too late for a .. rhymes with ‘heather swoon’ breakfast. Definitely the best mistake I have ever made being late for that particular breakfast. We didn’t know where to go, but a stones throw away, (excuse the pun) we came into this wonderful quaint little cafe. The two girls that were working were so efficient and welcoming as soon as we came in. Very COVID safe and clean too. Ordered the Eggs Royale, and was definitely not disappointed. The hollandaise sauce was delicious, with plenty of it and the salmon was fresh and plentiful. The cappuccinos we ordered, as a regular size were also so creamy and a lovely coffee indeed, very big too! Honestly cannot think of anything negative about my visit, and will definitely be coming to this little cafe instead of the bigger chains. Thank you for making my day, hope to be back soon."

Just to clarify, our reservation was for The Square, not Sapore di Italia, which is actually the name of their weekday menu from 12 to 5. Although the reservation I made through Opentable wasn’t recorded, the phone number on the confirmation led me to The Square, and the staff happily managed to accommodate us."

"Had a young man called Will serve us today. Lovely charming chap. Recommended bang coq and it was amazing. "So lets start with the bad points. if you suffer from a nut allergy this is not the place for you. out of the menu their must be about 3 things on the menu that does not contain nuts. The desserts well only real options is ice cream and i am not a kid any more. not really impressed coming to a restaurant to be presented with option of soup, burger and ice cream. something you expect for a kids meal but the reality it that's the only nut free options i found. Apart from this the restaurant is fab, quick service, food presented nice and atmosphere amazing. just wish they cater more items on the menu that was not coated in nuts. I did let our waitress know and she was aware but nothing that could be done"

"Started out a lovely day! Ordered starters and let the kids have a play. Kids food come and the nuggets tasted of pepper! Then a few hours later we ordered our mains. 3 specials a burger and a pasta dish. 2 specials, the burger and a pasta dish come out. The pasta dish was a children 's portion (which was recifified immediately (amazing) but the last special didn 't arrive and no mention of it. We asked about 20 minutes later (when we seen a waitress/waiter) to which we were told oh yes I will check. Come back about 10 minutes later (as the whole table had finished their meals) to advise they had no specials left! So meanwhile everyone had finished their meals, I had no meal and got told what do you want me to do about it by the manager! The manager was absolutely disgraceful, her attitude was unbelievable and she should not have a business if she cannot take accountability for their actions! I then ordered a steak medium (as the manager said I can do this for free) and it come stone cold and more rare than medium. So we took this back to be told by the chef, i sent this out 10 minutes ago so not my problem! So I had no meal what so ever as I went passed hungry by then! We put a review on before we left (after we asked for the bill) to be confronted by the manager, the owner and the chef screaming in our faces about the review! We had young kids with us and had been there since 2pm and we had been nothing but understanding to waits etc but to be confronted with such anger was a disgrace! We was told to leave and not pay but just to get out, which we did as our children had gotten upset but the situation! Looking at previous reviews on how others have had a bad time at the restaurant and how management had handled the situation, was our experience! Will not been returning at all. Disgraceful!"

"I can't recommend this little restaurant highly enough! It has the most delicious burger I've ever had! The staff are incredible—super friendly. They even treated us to some wobble rings, and since they weren't busy, they didn't charge us! Honestly, I wouldn't have even noticed if they hadn't mentioned it. Many other places would have considered that poor service and accused us of something! I can't wait to go back soon for another amazing burger!"
