"When we arrived at The Village Hotel Aberdeen we were put in a lovely room with a super king size bed, lovely decor and it was lovely and clean. We stayed the first night in this room, the bed was extremely comfortable and a very good size. The problem was I have mobility difficulties and there was a bath in the bathroom. I went to reception to see if they could do anything, the staff were very friendly and helpful and changed our room to an accessible room. I really wish we hadn't changed room! The accessible room was awful! The bed was a small double and the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept on, I woke every hour through the night with back pain, as did my partner. The room decor was dingy and the carpet was stained, there were marks on the sheets and the TV was much smaller than the TV in the original room. Why does the accessible room not have the same standards as a normal room? I was appauled. They really should improve the standard of the accessible room, it is unfair that people that need to use these rooms have to compromise on comfort and luxury. On a positive note, the staff were wonderful, helpful and friendly, the breakfast and evening meal were very delicious, although quite expensive. The breakfast is a buffet style with lots of choice. The evening meals have a good size portion and are very yummy. There is limited room service available between 5pm and 9:30pm. The bar was well stocked, although some of the drinks on tap were not available because the pumps were broken. The bar prices are quite expensive... ÂŁ10.60 for a pint of larger and a Jack Daniels with diet Coke. My overall opinion is that if you are staying in a standard king size room then I would recommend, but if you are staying in an accessible room avoid unless you want a bad back!"

Banyan On The Thames

"Banyan on the Thames is a nomenclatural inexactitude because the banyan tree is an inhabitant of the Indian subcontinent, rather than being passed off as a floating ficus on the Thames. Belonging as it does to the fig family, the original banyan drops spectacular aerial roots from its branches to the ground beneath its immense verdant canopy, producing a most unique treat for the eyes. The name of this tree has been appropriated by the Raphael on the Left Bank hotel in London for its restaurant. Maybe it aptly symbolises the roots of the restaurant being in the subcontinent. What strikes one about the place on first sight is someone's apparent obsession with the Medusa, signifying the Versace brand, which appears on every table top and virtually all over. The second striking feature is the artificial grass laid out both indoors and outside in the so called “garden” where there is a profusion of fake flowers, creepers and shrubs. It looks tacky and creepy and screams fake. The atmosphere in the so called garden, was not helped by the music played at decibels that are designed to hurt the ear drums. Food was fair to middling in quality, taste and presentation. The standard of service was reasonable. On the other hand, the location is magical. You can spend quite a while looking out through the large glass windows as the world goes by. The Thames flows quietly, more water under Battersea bridge, while you are people watching. And if you are feeling energetic, one has the opportunity of course to refresh oneself by striding along the Thames in the company of others who may be ambling, jogging and strolling. In conclusion, it’s really nothing to write home about"
