"I purchased a groupon voucher. First time I tried to use it I booked a table for two over the phone. No problem they booked me in for the specified time. But when I said I had a groupon voucher I was told I could only use it on a quiet night, not the night which I had already booked for. Ok. So I rebooked for a 'quiet night '. When we arrived it was empty. We were the only people there. We ordered drinks and food. Food was mediocre. Quality rather than quantity, not what I would expect from an Indian restaurant. I would compare it to Iceland frozen curry. We didn 't complain but decided we wouldn 't bother with dessert. The Manager knew we were using a groupon voucher before we ordered however when we wanted to pay and I showed him the photo of the groupon voucher on my phone complete with barcode, Security code and groupon code he scrutinised every detail on it. He said there was no date on it and said to me that people try to use vouchers which are out of date. I then had to point out to him the valid date on it. Then he said we should have printed it out. Then he messed about trying to take a photo of it with his own phone. Then he said I had to give him my phone number in case there was a 'problem ' with the voucher. It was really very awkward. Almost as though he just didn 't want to redeem it. I have used groupon before and I know how to use the groupon voucher code and merchants have never had a problem taking the details off my phone before. I had already read several reviews about the spice centre bad customer service but I had decided to purchase the groupon voucher anyway. I really wished I hadn 't. I won 't go again and will warn everyone I know not to waste their time or money on the Spice centre."

"During a recent tour of London, our party of six (five 55+ adults and one 12YO male) decided to stop here for lunch. Since it was quite chilly that day (40 F and windy), we were wearing coats, sweaters, and nice jeans. Upon entering, the maitre d ' manager (I assume) made a comment to the effect of “Well, you certainly seem to have dressed warm today”. Maybe it was an attempt at humor, but it wasn’t exactly a friendly greeting. Seeing that the restaurant only had a party of five and a party of two seated, we asked if a table was available. Maitre d ' manager’s response was “Do you have a reservation?” Obviously not, or we would have said that when we entered. He said he’d see what was available, walked away, came back a few minutes later and asked a waitress to seat us at a table that was already set for six. The food (sweet and sour chicken, sweet and sour pork, chicken noodles, Szechuan beef, egg fried rice, white rice) was absolutely delicious. The wait staff was attentive, polite and gave us time to savor our meal. Meanwhile, the maitre d ' manager never once checked on us. He did, however, take the time to seat, take the order of and personally serve two young ladies seated directly across from our table who ordered Afternoon Tea. I also observed that at no time during our meal did the restaurant have more than a dozen patrons, including our party, and many were dressed in the same manner that we were. I’ve read this is supposed to be one of London’s best Asian restaurants. That’s certainly true from a food perspective. Unfortunately, some the staff’s attitude distracts from that."

"After visiting this restaurant for approx 10 years, we visited recently for a family birthday and to say we are disappointed is a huge understatement and it will be our last visit. We ordered a variety of dim sum and noddles to share which worked out at £45 a head (incl drinks). Whilst quite pricey, We don 't mind paying that much if the food is nice but most of it was bad quality. The pork shumai was disgusting and honestly inedible, the chicken feat in black bean sauce came out red in colour like it had been curried, furthermore the seafood had the taste of ammonia. The Vietnamese spring rolls had changed since our last visit, and whilst they were fine, they were not as tasty as before. We heard the dimsum chef had recently not been working and dim sum was off the menu for a period of time and we can only assume that the chef must have left. Also we only arrived at 1pm (opens at 12) yet one third of the dishes were sold out and marked off the dim sum menu. One other complaint is that after 10 years of regularly visiting this restaurant, no current staff have ever made an effort to ask our name or even acknowledge we have been before which we never minded before when the food was tasty. We are young and non-chinese in terms of ethnicity and we saw the restaurant staff greet other customers with a lot more acknowledgement and we even saw they knew the table next to us regular order which is ironic since we are also regulars. Seemed like they never made any effort to greet us. Will avoid from here on out."
