"This restaurant is popular with wealthy people in the area because it has been around for a long time. It hails from the era of traditional Chinese restaurants and sort of kept up to date by having a slightly modern decor. However this lack of change but with new materials has given it a nostalgic following. The food is good, but oily and sugary like Chinese food used to be before people became more health conscious. Sadly years ago I would have given this 5 stars, but it has fallen behind. Most of all it now has 3 stars because some of the junior staff can be apathetic, disinterested and most of all a bit vicious which is not conducive to the prices they charge. Having come here for so long, I take no pleasure in writing this review. This place will continue due to it's very long period of built up patronage, but eventually, at this rate, even if it takes many years, it will be used up. It was the bordering on offensiveness of a couple of staff that prompted me to write this and has sadly made this place loose my very long standing goodwill."

"The food at this restaurant is good, but I will not be returning due to blatant racial discrimination. I am a black man who has always frequented this restaurant with East Asian friends. However, on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, my Chinese British friend and I experienced discrimination from the staff. Despite standing in plain view near the front of the restaurant for nearly 5 minutes, none of the staff acknowledged us or offered us a table. When two Chinese girls entered after us, the waiter immediately greeted them and assumed they were with us, ignoring me until he realized my friend was not with them. He then seated us at a substandard table near the open door, clearly showing preference for Chinese customers over us. This discriminatory behavior is unacceptable, and I will not be patronizing this restaurant again."

"First of all I would give a 0 stars if I could. I feel like I have just eat part of a cat . Totally inedible absolutely rank disgusting and filth I really wish I had read the reviews before ordering from here. This is possibly not just the worst Chinese I have ever attempted to eat but actually the worst meal I have ever Eaton. Absolutely shocking of a place it needs shutting down. Tried to call them and I’m explaining how poor the food was and all they could say was your food is out for delivery yeeeee’ erm no love the food is in my kitchen bin. Absolutely filthy I strongly avoid and recommend no body eat here I wouldn’t even feed this food to a homeless person it would just be bang out of order to do so. Oh and I ordered vegetable spring rolls please tell me why it had meat inside????? SHUT IT DOWN"

"We were seated by the window which was lovely and seen to within minutes but my only remark would be it was very rushed so you never had time to enjoy every course before the next one was out infront of you. Therefore our main course was wasted, although we were offered a take out box. So we would have enjoyed it more if it was not so rushed."

"We had a meal from your restaurant the other night, and I'm sorry but it was awful. The chicken in my curry was prepared in some kind of weird way, I can't even be sure it was chicken! We also had noodles and rice which tasted burnt. Sorry but this not the first time this has happened. Your restaurant used to be our favourite family restaurant for sit down meals and takeaways. We won't be using you again, unless you change your kitchen staff. Sorry."

"Every time I have been here there is always something wrong, food great and senior staff members seem perfect, when sitting in and eating ordered a drink and a main dish, only drink arrived and didn’t order the main for us, we were in a bit of a rush so had to leave. Then when I ordered online for collection, someone had taken the ticket off and just left it next to the register which was rather annoying as I had to wait a while due to a busy Saturday. Food is excellent, 10/10 recommend, just a bit of a pain to go out for a meal and have to chase someone for your food. They were very kind about delaying my collection and gave me a larger drink."

"Staff were very attentive and checked on us regularly throughout the meal asking if we needed more drinks etc. the food is amazing, we ordered a variety of dishes to share between the 4 of us so that we could sample as much as possible. The squid portion was generous and tasted delicious and the bang bang shrimp were also really good. We had the bulgogi beef skewers and aubergine skewers both were tasty but the beef ones were very flavoursome and my favourite dish of all. The desserts are also really tasty passion fruit cheesecake was deconstructed and has a hidden layer of passion fruit sauce underneath to add extra zing. The only fault would be the cookie dough would have benefitted from more ice cream as it was a little sickly after a while."

"Had a lovely meal with the family today at Mr Basrai's. Many choices. Tasty food. Friendly and helpful servers. Great value too. Would certainly recommend. The Mrs and I went back to Mr Basrais for a meal yesterday, first time after it reopened after lockdown and it was lovely! Staff friendly and caring as before. Food delicious as always. Received 50% off as well on food and soft drinks due to the #eatouttohelpout scheme. Loved it! Will visit again towards the end of this month."

"This restaurant in Colchester is definitely the best we have tried. We had an amazing meal there last night. This was our first visit since the refurbishment and we were impressed with the new dishes on the menu. The staff and atmosphere were fantastic. There are plenty of vegetarian options available and we highly recommend trying them. The service, food, and atmosphere all receive a top score of 5. Some recommended dishes include Tempura Asparagus, Roast Duck, and North Hill Noodles. Vegetarian dishes are clearly labeled on the menu. "Our experience at Papa's Wok was very positive. We appreciated the variety of meat and vegetarian options available. The veg spring rolls we ordered were tasty and we received an extra one, which was a nice surprise. The gobi manchurian and stirring vegetables were both well-seasoned and enjoyable. We also tried the sweet and chili and garlic rice, both of which came in a box. The chili and garlic rice was tasty but not as spicy as expected. However, the plant noodles were disappointing as they lacked flavor and were quite bland. The portion sizes of the big box were generous and we were impressed by the amount of food. Overall, we had a great dining experience at Papa's Wok and would definitely order from them again."

"Very over priced and not happy with description of the order. We ordered on Just eat and wanted to review on there but couldnt for some reason. £12.50 for a big box of chow mein which was the size of a small lunch box that would be £7.50 max any where else. If you are hungary and get good value for money order some where else in Aylesbury for takeaway. Dont use these guys since they are just poor value for money"
