"My wife ordered and loved her falafel burger with chips. I ordered the Tofish and Chips. I was impressed by the batter on the fake fish but that was only because of the look and texture. The inside was really just plain tofu, and the whole thing did not taste like anything. No marinade on the tofu, no seasoning, nothing. Also, the tartar sauce didn't taste like tartar sauce. No bite or edge to it. The best part of my meal was the peas, which were delightful. The biggest issue with this place, and the reason I'd never return or recommend it, is the owner's incessant commentary, including calling my wife madam a couple dozen times in about forty-five minutes. I know that's just him being polite but because he interrupted our meal so many times, it just became grating. Finally, when I stood up to leave, the owner asked me what the rush was, then said to my wife, Don't worry, madam, I'll take you home Are you serious? That is simply not cool. So, even if I loved the food, I would warn everyone against this overbearing, disrespectful owner. I'd especially suggest avoiding this place if you are a single woman, like the previous reviewer. "We were seated by a friendly waitress who took our drink and starter order. She spoke about Italy as she was from Sicily. However, she left halfway through our meal and we were forgotten about. After realizing we had not been served our main courses after 30 minutes, we flagged down a waiter who was unapologetic. Our main courses arrived 10 minutes later, indicating they were not put through properly. We sat with empty drinks and no server checked on us. The bill included a 12.5% service charge, which seemed cheeky given the lack of service. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and we will not be returning anytime soon."

"Much as I love Italian food, I hadn 't known about the 'tigella '. It 's a small, round 'bun ', perfect for sandwiches and burgers and all sorts............. They are smallish, true and staff remind customers of that. I 'd imagine that a hungry person might order two and that 'd be great value for a main course. The ravioli with spinach was perfect, really delicate and full of flavour. Cocktails well, we 'd had a tough hour or two looking at art an excellent espresso martini, and a 'Hugo ' no, we had no idea either, so it was an experiment...........lovely, fresh and zingy. I think the habit of having black white, silent films on a huge screen is a bit cliched, and adds nothing to the provenance of the place. Maybe showing a [muted] Italian film La Dolce Vita? Staff are great. We 'll be back."

"We were meeting in Liverpool for a family weekend and booked here for Friday night. Traffic delayed 2 of our party but it wasn’t a big issue. Once we ordered food it arrived in good time and everything was delicious. 2 couples each shared a pizza and pasta and they split the pizza onto 2 plates. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought the birthday boy a delicious dessert with a candle in without us asking. It was busy but we were upstairs where I definitely didn’t feel crowded. Would definitely recommend and we would certainly return if we were in the city again."

"I would like to clarify straight off the bat that the five star review is for the chip shop portion of the shop only. There’s a lot of chat online about how this place does the best pizzas in Edinburgh. Well that’s up for debate. Granted, the pizzas are better than your standard chip shop pizza but I would be hesitant to claim these are the best pizzas in Edinburgh. I would have no problem however, claiming that this is one of the best places for fish and chips in Edinburgh. I would serve these chips at my wedding. Exactly what you’re looking for when you’re looking for a typical chippy and none of this posh chips hipster nonsense. Their battered sausage is nothing short of perfection. I’m vegetarian but I had to make an exception for the battered sausag- ok I’m not really but you get the point. The battered haddock is also superb. One of my top 3 chippies in Edinburgh."

"I have been dining at this restaurant for over thirty years, which is hard to believe. However, it consistently provides good food and service every time. Giuliano is still present, walking the floor just like always."

"Went for an evening meal with a couple of friends. Staff friendly, food lovely, restaurant is clean. Only reason for 4 stars is staff just automatically kept the change from my bill as a tip. It was £16 which is a lot to assume. We had to ask for the change back and they had no idea how much it was, which also seemed strange. Other than that, nice local restaurant and I will return. On a separate note, the Sunday dinner is delicious. Portions are huge and you get loads of meat! We get a Sunday dinner delivered quite regularly."

"My partner, son, and I come to this restaurant regularly and we always enjoy the great value for money food and tasty drinks. They serve high-quality coffee, not instant stuff, and the staff are fantastic. They always make us feel welcome and seem to know our order before we even say anything. They also give a lot of attention to my 2-year-old son, with high-fives, treats, and jokes that he loves. The portions are large and the prices are cheap. The food and drinks come quickly after ordering and everything is really good. We couldn't ask for anything more."

"We have never visited Benedictos in person but ordered a takeaway last night via JustEat. The food arrived really quickly but that was the only positive unfortunately. We ordered a mozzarella garlic bread and whilst the middle was nice, the edges were completely burnt and...inedible. We also ordered lasagna for the main dish and again, one of these portions was incredibly burnt. It was also swimming in a very salty tomato-based sauce. The onion rings and fries as sides were ok. We were really disappointed with our food not cheap either at £35. We wouldn’t recommend Benedictos and won’t be ordering for delivery or visiting the restaurant."

"we found this place in a Monday evening when most other restaurants were closed. this place was packed. eating is incredible! my pizza was by far the best pizza I've ever eaten. big claim (I had a couple.) that was legendary. service was fast, attentive friendly. they had color sheets for the children, even held a chain that my youngest had lost for us, so that we could gather them the next day. about all, incredible places, from Italians with a fab atmosphere amazing eating. if there was a capacity, this would be a 5 evaluation then I would. I hope they get the opportunity to enjoy this place as well as we."

"I am a real fan of Obica but normally visit the one at St Paul’s, as I found myself on the other side of town I visited the one on Polcan Street. This venue continued my excellent experiences with Obica, a very nice venue with big windows and friendly and welcoming staff. I have worked my way through the Obica menu so I know what I like but the standard was maintained and I had a very enjoyable meal, I did make a slight change and had the cauliflower and chard gratin which was like a hug in a bowl, particularly on a winters day. I would recommend anyone to try Obica in any of the London branches for a really treat, particularly the pizzas!"

"we went in and the owner received my children with "hi kinder what is it orange or apple juice"? the children who were broadly and excited asked for their juice and I wondered if this could be “in the house” because I was not consulted. we ordered our pizzas and the youngs wanted oliven on their margarita pizza so that we, although why not pizza extras usually not more than £ 1-2 per pizza. we got the bill, and were charged £5 per juice (which is nothing more than an apple line, not fresh juice) and £5 per pizza for the “extra olives”. £20 up sale for 2 children in the age of 5 7 up on the standard pizza prices of £10/pizza! the meals of my child cost £20 per head. "last night I picked up 2 pizzas for dinner and must say for the price is simply the best pizza in the west. I have never tried the rest of her eating, but every time I had pizza, it was on the place. the beats are delicious, the pizzas are big enough and their mozzarella is something else! her service is always very fast and the staff is very friendly. it is the only place I know in glasgow that makes a real Italian pizza and it is not overpriced. I'll try the food soon."
