"Evening was great, starting with seated area around the bar, Table was 40mins late but we let that go as where we was. Food was amazing and service was good too. We were let down once we were ready to leave with a £10 each music charge which we wasn’t made aware of . For this reason we would not return."

I did know that they have vegetarian options from the menu we saw the day before, but wasn’t sure if they had anything vegan. It turns out that they did not have any specifically vegan items on the menu. However, the waitress and kitchen was very accommodating and made modifications to the full veggie breakfast for me. It was your typical full breakfast made vegan that was simple and cooked well with fresh produce. I really appreciate how helpful and accommodating the staff were, especially in answering my questions in assuring me it was vegan. Really made me feel at ease. My friends enjoyed their Buttermilk Chicken and Waffle too which was a good portion too. We all loved the juice and smoothies we ordered as well! We also had a look at their cocktail menu which intrigued us. Excellent customer service, good vibes with the bright and fun décor that is still classy, good food at reasonable prices, I do see myself coming back here for dinner/to try their cocktails if I find myself in Edinburgh again."

"Tomahawk was incredible! Undoubtedly the best steak I have ever eaten! Seating is strange ambience was definitely lacking. We ordered a side it was clearly forgotten about, we reminded staff twice we were still waiting on it, decided to start eating what we already received as we didn’t want it to go cold it arrived when we were 3/4 finished. Disappointing in that respect, as it was not busy at this time."

"The wait for the food was over 1.5 hours. When it arrived, it was tasteless. The sirloin wasn’t seasoned and the venison was over-cooked. The red cabbage was very vinegary. We were offered complimentary drinks clearly to bump up the service charge. A couple next to us refused to pay their bill citing the exact same reasons. What a horrific way to spend £185.00!"

"I really enjoy dining at The Refinery. I have visited a couple of times now and have always been pleased with the setting, ambience, and staff. However, on my most recent visit, I was disappointed with the price of the main meal and the portion size. I ordered the pan-fried salmon, which was supposed to come with cauliflower for a healthy option. Unfortunately, the dish only came with a few small pieces of cauliflower, and I felt that it was not worth the £13.95 price tag. I would have preferred a larger portion for the price. I find that the mains are a bit overpriced for the portion size, and I would recommend ordering side dishes to feel satisfied. Despite this, everything else about my dining experience was wonderful."

"We arrived at the restaurant for our booked special occasion, only to find out that they had no record of our reservation. This resulted in a disappointing experience as we had to wait while they tried to find a suitable table for us. "We used to frequent this pub on a regular basis, but then there were several new managers in quick succession and the quality of the food and the service went downhill, so we stopped going. However, we found out that this pub had a new manager so we decided to try it again and booked for Sunday lunch. Well what a difference! On arrival we were warmly greeted by the new manager Ian and we could not have been made to feel more welcome. The pub certainly felt a lot cleaner and more welcoming. The menu was similar to when we were last here but the drinks menu had changed slightly there were no prices for buying the wine by a bottle, but just ask at the bar if you want the price of a bottle. The choice of roast dinners were the same as on our previous visit and we both ordered the chicken supreme. The food was excellent with a range of roasted and steamed vegetables along with a large Yorkshire pudding and proper roast potatoes. We were personally able to thank the chef Stuart for cooking us a ‘proper’ Sunday lunch. All of the waiting staff were polite and attentive and we felt that nothing was too much trouble when we asked for something. Well done Ian for starting to turn this place around and many thanks to the chef Stuart and his support team in the kitchen. This pub is so much better than when we last visited and we feel that it can only improve further under Ian’s leadership. During the week there is a curry night, a pie night and a fish and chips deal on a Friday, so there is something for everyone. If you have previously been and were disappointed now is the time to return and give it another try…."

"Dinner here was supposed to be one of the highlights of a week away over Christmas. Sadly did not live up to the expectation. The main reason being that as soon as we five were seated, we were given a list of menu options of what was no longer available. In 40 years I have never faced a list of missing options in any restaurant, perhaps the odd 1 or 2 options. Disappointment was compounded by the wholly inappropriate excuse that there was insufficient food because it was Christmas!! What remained of the evening was OK, food was OK and the service was good. All in all, it was a let down. Recommend that the management up their game with regards to menu planning and food ordering in the future."

"We love the Punchbowl..brought friends and it didn’t disappoint!One observation is, however...we would like to have eaten outside as it was a lovely day.But the wooden tables had benches and we are all in our sixties and find it uncomfortable with no back rests.The small tables and chairs were adequate for snacks but not meals for 4.So, better outside seating would be great!"

"Called here for lunch , the pub is a lovely pub traditional with a nice feel and decor . service was good and pleasant staff . I had pie which came with a substantial amount of veg included in the price I get fed up of food coming with nothing and you have to order sides to make into a meal the pie was lovely pastry excellent my other half had a salad pro Covid diet lol it was substantial and beautifully presented I would definitely recommend if you are passing call , I will be going back and I look forward to going ."

All she had to do was apologise and i would have felt slightly better about the whole experience. Not returning again"

"The place and view were beautiful! The food was not good, unfortunately. An hour later, we received a starter that was uncooked and had raw meat. We sent it back, but the rest of the food came out lukewarm. The chicken wings were undercooked. The main dishes arrived at the same time as the appetizers, and they were not hot either. The portions were not satisfying and lacked flavor. The pizza was cold, and when we complained, the manager offered the meal for free. The service from the waiter and manager was good, but the kitchen staff may need improvement. I would return for drinks, but not for a meal. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant."
