"I’ve been a fan of Aubaine for about 8 years, but I was a bit disappointed today. The menu was not inspiring. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad. The chicken was only lightly seasoned but very tender. I thought that would be ok because the Caesar sauce is made with salty anchovies and the “bite” would balance the bland chicken… except it wasn’t ! The sauce was also bland and apparently deconstructed as there were two small fillets of i assume anchovy under the chicken breast. But they were not salty anchovies, they were soused (in vinegar). So the dish really didn’t work. It was perfectly edible, but it wasn’t a Caesar salad, nor was it anything else. My guest is vegan and normally I would have kept her company, but there was only one vegan dish the same one I had two weeks before: stuffed aubergine. It was ok, but not amazing as aubergine is rather rich. In January we had a really delicious soup. That, I would have enjoyed again, but sadly there were no soups on offer today. The ambiance is very pleasant in the restaurant and our waiter was really excellent, so we had an enjoyable time, but I’ve had much better meals at Aubaine."
