"For Christmas 2022, unbeknown to each other, my wife and I bought each other the same present vouchers for an overnight stay at The Waterside Inn and Le Menu Exceptionnel. It’s such a special place and we both love it here. We booked our first visit during the summer last year and have just enjoyed our next visit. Both visits, it must be said, were amazing, as always, and the complimentary room upgrade was a lovely surprise. The staff are attentive but not intrusive and the food as you would expect is sublime. We especially enjoyed the duck consommé under a puff pastry crust (my wife had hers without the foie gras). The only observation I would make is if you buy a voucher for a gift ensure there has been no price increase between the time you purchase it and the time you use it. Only the monetary value of the voucher at the time of purchase is honoured. The vouchers come in a lovely presentation wallet and you just assume you are getting what it says on it. When we settled our bill I queried a £60 additional charge and after a somewhat embarrassing 10 minutes or so (as no one seemed to know why this had been added) we was informed the menu had increased by £30 to £265 pp. Unfortunately I didn’t see this in the t&c’s but do feel it is not the best policy to enforce upon guests, at least without prior explanation."

"Lazix is a lovely little bistro only a stones throw away from the main high street in Canterbury. Our friends and family have been welcomed over and over again by the lovely owners and staff who take great pride in the service they provide. The cakes are delicious, the coffee even better! If you are celebrating and you fancy a little tipple, you can also get some very nice wine or a cocktail or two! Will continue to come back time and time again. Something for everyone."

"Lovely interior, although if you struggle with stairs you should request a ground floor table. Slightly aggressive air con, but the staff did adjust it for us. Fabulous selection of fish and sea food, steaks, and one or two vegetarian options. I couldn't see anything vegan. Food was tasty and clearly prepared with love. I had a risotto that was nice and creamy. Service was good but occasionally slow. It was pretty popular for a mid week evening, so booking is advised. Vegetarian options: A couple of choices of both starters and mains. "from the fabulous welcome to the refined food was a great experience. only minus point was the lack of salate when my wife ordered salmon. our waitress was made aware that the information was fed back, but the salmon was cooked nicely. we will thank for the search for us all will definitely return"

"Visited this place in 2018 and had a great lunch, never been able to get back in since as its always busy. Managed to book a table for Sunday and noticed how quiet it was. The food was average, add the price of the dishes and that average becomes poor. We had Lobster £50, halibut £38 and linguine £22. All fair prices if cooked to a high standard, however all three dishes were a little lack luster and not what we were hoping for. It may explain the reason it was quite ? The service was excellent, very attenuative and polite. They just need to get the food quality back up there !"

"This restaurant was an incredible surprise! We were on our way to our hotel and decided to stop by without checking any reviews. As we entered, we noticed a sign asking for patience due to being short-staffed, which made me a bit skeptical. However, the delicious smells wafting from outside hinted that we were in for something special. In the end, the staff was fantastic and attentive, and the food was outstanding—we ordered the seafood platter for two. They also offer gluten-free bread that actually tastes like real bread! But the real highlight was their salmon chowder, which I had never tried before; now I can’t imagine enjoying chowder any other way. I highly recommend you visit and experience it for yourself!"

"Popped in with friends who recommended the all you can eat buffet, I wish we had not of bothered. The decor has not changed since it was opened in the 80's. The food was disgusting. Vegetable Spring Roll was dripping with grease. The chicken wings were coated in granulated sugar???? The ribs were plain with a bit of sweet and sour sauce dribbled on them. The main courses were too sweet. The seasonal vegetables were bland. The beef Chow Mein was weird, I think the beef was boiled??? Nothing about the food was to my liking. All you can eat buffet £19.50,not worth the money"

"First time back at a Browns for a long time and to be very honest it wasn’t bad at all! Kind staff, very friendly and with good attention to derail. The food was of a good standard and the lady taking our order was kind and welcoming too. The price of lunch these days is about the same so you couldn’t fault it and the venue definitely feels more comfortable than anywhere else in the near vicinity. Highly recommended! "The Applecross Inn provided a welcome break after our brave/foolhardy adventure traversing the Applecross Pass in a motorhome. It's right on the seafront, and on a good day, it would have been an absolutely stunning setting. The day we were there, it was horizontal rain and blowing a gale, so we hurried inside. The inside is cosy and traditional, and we were given a warm welcome by the friendly bar tender. We'd only popped in for a drink, so I can't comment on the food, apart from saying that it smelt as though there may be a lot of seafood on the menu. The gin selection was impressive, and I happily chose a Gordon Castle, which you don't see in many places. And bonus fee wi fi! Having not had signal for hours, this was very welcome as we could upload photos, check online maps and such. I'd have worked my way through a few more of their gin selection, but we had places to get to, so off we went."

"This was a birthday treat for my daughter. I booked the table for the Saturday 16th A table for 3 for 19:15 pm. We had table 18 and the Resturant was extremely busy and this added to the atmosphere. The starter came in a respectable time and they were Garlic Mushrooms, Goats cheese and my very over cooked scallops. I told the waiter and he passed it on to the chef. It was a very busy restaurant so i accepted the over cooked scallops. Then came the main course of. 2x well done Sirloin Steaks with chips followed by my order of a filet steak ordered as rare and it came medium to well not even pink and at £32.00 just for the steak it needed to be right. The waiter asked how the food was and I was waiting to attract his attention to show him the result having cut it to see how it was presented/cooked and he agreed that it wasn’t as ordered and replaced it. My daughter and her partner carried on eating their food what was cooked as they asked. When the replacement filet steak came it was rare but was old and tasted awful with a very dry tang. So not edible so this spoiled the evening and with a bottle of wine the bill was £192.00. No comment from the restaurant manager and as he will have my contact information I will be expecting a response."

"The appetisers and steak were spot on. Unfortunately they ran out of the size of Chateaubriand we had wanted but the KC sirloin and the fillet were cooked and seasoned perfectly. We started with Loch Fyne oysters (amazing! which came with a scorchingly delicious scotch bonnet chilli, scallops with pork belly (incredible!! and steak tartare. The steak tartare had a lot of capers which was a bit overpowering but putting that aside, overall very good. Only real disappointment was the sides. Triple cooked chips were greasy and not crispy. Triple cooked chips can be superb but these were disappointing. Savoy cabbage with pancetta was alright but could have been so much more delicious. A bit of a creamy mess is the best way I can describe it. Finally, the grilled asparagus was soggy and the (hollandaise? sauce was not very good. The sauces for the steak were also a little bland. We tried the blue cheese and peppercorn sauces. Having said all that we would defo go back. Maybe give the sides another try but the steak alone was worth the visit and we would call ahead to make sure we had a chateaubriand waiting for us next time. Oh, and the ambiance was top notch! Felt like we were at a chic big city restaurant. Very sophisticated. Can’t wait for the bar area to open up again. We could only drink at the table which was not the end of the world."

"The food at this restaurant was delicious, some of the best steaks we have had in years. The calamari starter was also extremely good. The service was excellent, as well. When you go to a good restaurant, you want to be enticed and sold on the experience, and this place definitely delivered."

"We took friends to the museum and before doing anything else we popped into the cafe for lunch. We ordered jacket potatoes for two and toasted cheese sandwich for two. We were told there was only one and a half potatoes left we ordered at 12.44). So we ordered these. The half arrived on a side plate just on its own, with tuna the other arrived accompanied by a very tired salad which was extra) The potatoes were at least twice heated in the micro wave so I think)!and had a yellow! grey colour Thetoasted sandwiches had cheese which had not melted. Come on Cafe. The Mueum is so amazing and the cafe needs to buck up.."

"charming place for a pint on the afternoon. Amazingly large exterior sitting area and beautiful balcony on the top floor. However, if they plan a meal, they will be very disappointed. prices for the small portions of food and for the quality of food inappropriately high. we had to start the portobello mushrooms and it came with two small squares of toast. not enough. when we ordered more broth, they simply brought bread with seeds. about the main courses consist of the chargrilled lamb balsamic koftas in only 4 small spits. they must order at least two pages to feel satisfied. the maischekartoffel came too dry and my main the lobster devon crab fishcakes were...read more"

"We had a great meal at the restaurant, sadly it was somewhat spoilt by another guest who had brought a dog to the restaurant. When another guest complained about the dogs constant barking he was told by the dog owner to leave and he wasn’t welcome back to the restaurant because she is a regular and she didn’t want him there. I think in a restaurant with small outside space where sound can echo barking pets should not be allowed as this can ruin other guests meals and could lead to them not returning."

"We was very lucky to get a last minute table at this restaurant as we were on holiday nearby. The service was delightful and friendly. The seafood was so fresh and it was from a local fisherman. We had freshly baked bread from the chef with garlic Aioli. The oysters was juicy and the diver scallops in garlic and parsley butter were massive and cooked perfectly. For our mains we had baked crevettes, mussels, and scallops in a garlic and parsley butter with a extra lobster tail and a half baked lobster with cheese and lobster sauce. When the food arrived I was very surprised at the size of the lobster, it was almost bigger than my plate. The half lobster was very meaty and sweet and cooked spot on. You can tell the chef takes great pride in his restaurant and makes the time to go around and chat with every customer. We had a lovely evening."

"we were thrilled by rockfish in torquay and it was not disappointed! they get their choice of daily catch, take the beautiful appetizers, and finish the night with a literal skyberry on the top. from our order were the right exhibits of the scallop starter (we loved it so much, we ordered a second portion! 10/10 perfection), the lobster tail with rocks and the image perfect lemon dessert. bonus points: dog friendly!"
