"When we arrived, we tried to make a reservation but couldn't get through by phone. Fortunately, there was no problem getting a table as it was surprisingly quiet for a Friday night. We ordered four venison dishes and two duck dishes, which soon arrived. Unfortunately, all of the venison meals were cold, including the mashed potatoes. We spoke to our waitress about this, and she assured us she would take care of it. The dishes came back, and as we dug in again, we found they were still lukewarm. The venison itself was tougher than I remembered from my previous visit. I mentioned this to our waitress, and in response, we received some complimentary French fries, which the kids loved and were hot—unlike the mashed potatoes. To her credit, the waitress apologized again and mentioned that to make up for the cold venison and mash, she had arranged free desserts for all of us, which was a nice touch. The desserts were delightful; the ice cream profiteroles were a hit with both the kids and the adults. The meal would have easily earned five stars if the main courses had been hot. It’s disappointing because I truly enjoy the location and the home-cooked quality of the food. I hope my experience was just a fluke, but with the current challenges facing restaurants, it's essential to be consistently at your best. Everyone is feeling the pinch these days, and a negative experience could prevent us from returning."

"We went here on 3 September. If my review was only about the food, I 'd give five stars, as it was excellent value for money at £25 for five small courses on the 'total trust ' menu. It 's certainly worth that price and more. My only criticism concerning the food was the lack of variety. I know the whole point is to put 'total trust ' in the chef, but three fish courses was a little excessive. This didn 't bother me as I love fish, but my mum, who I was dining with, was a little disappointed. The service had a lot of glitches. We really couldn 't understand the man who was serving us, but that 's nobody 's fault, of course, and we would never be critical just for that, but there were other problems. I got given the wrong wine to start, but it was perfectly pleasant, so I didn 't say anything, thinking that it was just a one off error. We then ordered bread and butter when he came over to the table it never came for 20 minutes, during which time other people had ordered the same thing with other waiters after us and got it. He clearly hadn 't put the order in and we had to chase it up. I was asked if I wanted 'cheese or dessert for my final course ' and I picked cheese he had to come over and tell me that it wasn 't available on the menu and that he made a mistake, which is fine, but it was then made clear that I would have gotten both and that the cheese was just an additional course, which wasn 't made clear originally. I also ordered a double espresso to finish my meal, but when it came it was a single. I mentioned this to another woman passing who rectified the situation. My mum thought she overhead the waiter saying 'he said a single, not a double ', but I can verify this, however I can say that I definitely didn 't say that. The man who made all the mistakes said that the espresso was on the house, but, somewhat predictably at this point, it was added to our bill. We enjoyed the aspect of guessing what ingredients were in each dish and being told by the waiter how much of it we got right or wrong. The waiter said we got everything right on one of the courses but then also said the table next to us got everything right on the same course, despite having two different answers. It seems a shame to come up with an interactive and novel concept only to have one waiter who appeared not bothered enough to actually look at our answers properly. We might go back as the other waiting staff seemed excellent and the food was very good, but we 'll not be in any rush..."

"Don't normally write reviews, but given the price of this place I feel compelled to. Booked for Sunday lunch as have had many great times here in the past, and don't mind paying a high price if the whole experience reflects this. Unfortunately, today's experience failed to meet with previous experience. Firstly, the table we were allocated should not be offered to anyone as it is extremely close to the adjoining table, meaning you have to disturb fellow diners in order to squeeze (literally) into your seat. Whilst the pork dish was fairly decent, the lamb arrived cooked vary rare. This was not advertised as such, otherwise I would have asked for it to be cooked to my liking when order was taken. Having said that, I immediately informed the server that I would like the lamb to be cooked more, which she obliged, and returned with the lamb slightly more cooked. Both meals were covered in a gravy which was very overpowering in taste (salty, thin and not very nice). This would have been better served in a separate pouring dish, which we discussed with the server on payment. He server admitted that the gravy is quite strong, mqybe she could have said this when we ordered, so we could have had the option for it to be served separately. Roast potatoes were overcooked, and were very difficult to cut they were so hard. The bill was incorrect in that the cheese board (which was delicious) was not included. We did inform them of this and a correct bill was delivered. In hindsight, we should have informed staff that our table was not fit for purpose but I hope they kindly take this under consideration now for future diners. All in all, I feel this was an overpriced dining experience for what we got. Sadly, I wont be rushing back anytime soon."
