"From the booking to the welcome when we arrived, Colin, his wife staff were friendly, warm welcoming. The first surprise was the wide ranging menu we anticipated a few carefully created dishes based on the day's catch. Instead the large number of...options for starters mains meant they had to be relying on frozen, preprepared dishes. The second was that the crab, lobster Colin's melody of fish signature fish weren't actually outstanding. The lobster wasn't succulent, moist flavousome, it was....adequate. The same was true of the crab gratin. The lobster sauce served with Colin's melody was delicious, but the fish was slightly overcooked. At 102 for wine, two starters two mains it wasn't outrageously expensive, but we didn't come away feeling delighted with the evening, or that we got value for money. We were heavily influenced on our choice of restaurant by feedback here, so clearly many diners enjoy the experience. Perhaps our experience was atypical?"

so disappointing. seafood of course all frozen not fresh, at a time when fresh fish and shellfish are readily available.

Another excellent meal cooked to perfection by the inimitable Colin. We always eat here whenever we are in the area and it never fails to satisfy. Colin’s signature dish of a melody of lobster, salmon and sea bass in a glorious lobster sauce is one...of the best fish dishes we’ve ever had. Give him a call and book a table but don’t leave it to late!

We booked an early table pre Thursford Christmas Show dinner and what a lovely place!! I knew we were going to get on with Colin when I spoke to him on the phone straight talking and says it as it is kind of guy!...Food was fantastic, service excellent and all staff fully aware we were on a time frame for the show so served us quickly and gently reminded us to keep an eye on the time. We are definitely coming here again!

excellent food, very tasteful, well cooked and presented. the facility in the restaurant looks a little dated. small it range that does not overcrow or means noisy. I had started my main course when a party of 4 came. as a john travolta, he's probably looking for his old man. he had been seen in different places. it declared the cameramen against the restaurant and the owner to lock the front door when all the diners had arrived. We couldn't speak more highly about the establishment, the food, the owners and the staff. It is like walking into a rural French country restaurant. The staff are lovely, goodhumoured and efficient and the food is really lovely: proper traditional Frenchstyle cooking. It has taken...us until middle age to have cause to be in Norfolk, and so we can't predict if and when we'll ever be back, but if we ever are, it's the first place we'll go to eat.

Stopped here for 2 nights while we were visiting the area and enjoyed the restaurant on the first night. The food was so good, Colin's homemade bread and homemade garlic mayonnaise set the standard and it wasn't let down the scollops were cooked to perfection,...followed by out fish mains, Colins special and a Monk fish. We made room for puddings of crumble and pannacotta. The food was fantastic and Colin and his staff are so welcoming and helpful.

Four of us ate superb meals at this very warm and friendly restaurant last night. All the meals were so delicious from the home baked bread to the excellent deserts. I am dairy intolerant but this wasn’t a problem for Colin who came out from...the kitchen and talked to me about what I wanted without me feeling I was being a nuisance. Next time we are back in Norfolk on holiday this restaurant will be the first I book. If you enjoy freshly prepared and cooked ingredients I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. what a fantastic evening we had at the old forge. colin the owner and chef is a real character and has time to get out of our table and have a chat and feel really welcome he will be friendly and efficient. in front of the house staff. eating that was the real star of the show was nothing less fantastic. I had a dozen snails to start, an element rarely seen on each menu. they were really well covered with a juicy garlic butter. my main was bouillabaise, which was so full of different fishing and muddling it was almost too much to finish. superb! the others in our party had also impressive appetizers and main thing and we al;l finished with a selection of homemade desserts. oh and I forgot to...

although the service staff were really friendly, chatty and made us welcome, the main reason for us rating was so a low score. our two stars are for service personnel. we got a small bowl of olives and a few homemade. brot am tisch. the brot was dry and fell apart as soon as you picked it up. we had to start scallops and prawns (the Spanish art). prawns were nice and well cooked. scallops were slim and spiced. for the first we had a half lobster that was clearly frozen was very close to its use after the date. it was dry and tasteless and had an extremely poor fishy smell. our other head was moans in lobster sauce, which was overboiled and a soak that tasted nothing. I guess it came from a p...
