"I’ve driven past this restaurant for years but this was my first visit. From the outside it looks good and there’s a very welcoming fire and seating area as you enter. Plenty of parking right outside the door too. I thought the food was good, nothing exceptional but good. The restaurant itself was very busy which is a good sign too, even if you’d except that at this time of year. Staff were first rate in their pleasantness, but I wondered if they were a little over-stretched? A man I assume to be the owner had an angry swearing moment at a young staff member which wasn’t a great look, right in the middle to the restaurant. We were also never approached for more than our first drink (and we were all wanting to drink more, so thirst for us and lost revenue for them). The decor is nice, very open. However, the carpet looks tired and a bit 70s and the roof was leaking in the rain in several places. I appreciate Covid has hit this industry hard so money may be a bit tight, but these things need work first. It wouldn’t take much to improve this to a 4 star review and while I wouldn’t make a trip specially based on this experience, I would give give it another try a few months down the road."

There were eight of us in a packed restaurant. Service, food and atmosphere were laid back and good. Really struggle to fault the night. Thanks

I have visited this restaurant multiple times and have always had nothing but an outstanding experience. The food is delicious, the staff is fantastic, and the atmosphere is lovely.

We recently dined at this restaurant for a family dinner and, as always, it was outstanding. From the moment we arrived to the quality of the food and service, everything was top-notch from start to finish.

Again another great dinner at Cibo. We very much enjoyed the starters (calamari fritti, Cozze della casa garlic bread) and the main courses (pizza margaritas and melanzane parmigana) And outstanding service as always

Main course sizes really small, particularly for the high prices you pay. Bizarrely the only cider on offer is Strongbow and no money was offered off our bill when my wife found a sharp bit of black plastic in her pizza! Shame the restaurant is so blatantly focused on its bottom line. View menu

I have visited twice the past month. Portion sizes are large, prices also reasonable for the quality of food. Fast service and great atmosphere. I have recommended this restaurant to all family and friends. Carbonara is rich and creamy with plenty of flavour. Any negative reviews I find hard to believe as both times the food has been outstanding and so has the service. Look forward to returning

The food and service at Cibo were excellent! A group of 9 of us dined there, with a few of us returning customers. Our waiter was friendly and fantastic, managing a variety of orders seamlessly. The dishes were delicious, particularly the squid ink ravioli filled with scallops and the venison special. The panna cotta was also perfect. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Chianti and a good selection of soft drinks during our relaxing and wonderful family lunch. I highly recommend Cibo!

"I am sitting in my room at the sun inn as I am writing. It's a Sunday. I checked in at 8 15. The one young employee who was in the building was professional but informed me on arrival that the kitchen had closed. Bummer but it is a Sunday. Upon asking when the bar would close he told me 10pm. I decided to go to the shops and buy some cold sausage rolls and a bottle of wine to mitigate the early closing and grabbed a quick single beer in Dalkeith in a bar that closed at 11. My intention was to pay more for somewhere I could have several drinks without driving but I tried to make the best of my origional plan. I got back to the sun inn at 930 to find not a solitary light on and figured I'll watch some TV instead. Only the TV didn't work. I dismounted it after trying to configure settings on the 2 controls. The sky box was not connected sinse it was a flat wall mount and there was only a single accecible hdmi port, out of three, that could be used. That was already oucupied by the fire stick. Now it is sitting on the dresser since it cannot be remounted with both availible devices connected. 40 minutes of fooking around and nothing has changed. The bar is closed. No night porter, no TV, no breakfast and a broken bathtub. All the reasons I paid the extra to come here instead of the cheaper airport option have be removed. The room is nice though. It's as good as an airport one minus the stains on the headboard of the bed."

"Having successfully completed a major project I took my team out as a small thank you. There were 5 of us and we arrived around 1030h for breakfast. We were greeted by the very .lovely Amy, who promptly seated us. She was polite, friendly and attentive. She took our drinks orders, then our breakfasts. We all opetd for the full Scottish at under a tenner each. The meal was fabulous, well cooked, piping hot and presented on high quality flatware with good cutlery. The sausages had a delicious crisp outer, the bacon was well done but not hard, the mushrooms were served in a wee bowl with chilli oil. The eggs were perfect, accompanied by a slice of chunky bread, haggis and black pudding. Beans finished it off brilliantly. The teapot was quirky and delightful. Alison, the owner was not only beautiful but very charming with it. She was involved in the serving of our meals and chatted to us as she served us, making us feel more than welcome. Five breakfasts with assorted lattes, cappuccinos and teas was under £70 so very reasonably priced too. I left a well deserved tip and Alison kindly let me know that the full tip always went to the serving staff, so very ethical too. My colleagues were all as suitably impressed as I was. I cannot recommend this place highly enough and the only shame is that my time in Bonnyrigg is over, and I dearly wished I'd found The Beetroot sooner."
