"The Green Man at Linsell is a charming pub located off the beaten path that almost meets expectations. The pub's decor is lovely and you'll receive a warm welcome from the attentive front-of-house team. It's a step up from your typical pub, with white tablecloths and napkins that elevate the Sunday lunch experience. Getting there may require navigating through narrow single-track roads with the help of a somewhat confusing satnav, but there is ample parking available once you arrive. The drink selection is standard pub fare, though the wine list appears reasonable. For our meal, we both opted for the beef Sunday roast. While everything was cooked well, the dishes lacked seasoning and punch to truly elevate the flavors. One dish that stood out was a broccoli cheese concoction that seemed odd and wasn't to our taste. For dessert, we tried the crumble and brownie bake. The crumble, advertised as apple and blackberry or blackcurrant, felt lacking in the black element, resulting in what appeared to be a purple apple crumble. Despite these drawbacks, we cleaned our plates and left feeling satisfied and ready for a post-meal walk with our dog. The bill came to £30 per person, drinks included, making it a reasonably priced Sunday lunch option. Overall, The Green Man at Linsell is worth a visit for a leisurely lunch in a pleasant setting."

"When Mud first opened I became a semi regular because the food was beautifully cooked and presented, and the coffee reliably great. Then I guess shortly before Covid I had a couple of bad experiences so decided they'd lost their mojo and stopped going. Couple of months ago I decided to give them another chance and it was just like the old days: beautiful Turkish eggs absolutely zinging with flavour; top notch coffee. And then I went today. Only four people in the place but I sat at my table for nearly fifteen minutes without anyone even asking if I wanted anything. So I ordered at the till. My flat white looked like soapy water and tasted almost as bad. My wild mushrooms took an age to arrive, and when they did they were there's no other way to say this revolting. There was no almost zero distinction in flavour between any of the ingredients (which is pretty hard to achieve given those ingredients include eggs, bread, mushrooms, pesto, sausage and onion jam). Worse, that all pervading flavour was basically the same as the name of the cafe: it tasted of mud. I actually had a bad taste in my mouth after eating it (well, half of it). Is this a hygiene issue? Not cleaning the pans enough? Ingredients? Cooking method? No idea. But it's sad how the same place can deliver a truly great breakfast one day and less than two months later give me one of the worst I've ever had. Somebody needs to ramp up the quality control in a very big way."
