"We had a lovely meal here for our anniversary, we booked but it was not too busy, wed , early eve) so possibly didn't need to. This is a Gastro pub, the portions are not massive but all beautifully presented and hot. We both had 3 courses, 1 beer and a bottle of wine, under £90 total. All were very tasty and certainly enough for me. They do a lighter menu for daytime. The service was good and we didn't have to wait too long between courses. I did point out lightheartedly) to the Italian ?? waiter that he brought us soup spoons for the dessert instead of dessert spoons but it tasted same so not a massive problem. We will definately be back."

On Valentine's Day evening for a meal, just to find it closed and in total darkness

It was closed and had been closed for a few weeks to judge the post on the mat. A good way to travel there, not impressed openly.

Excellent food, good menu and reasonable- will recommend. Staff were friendly. A friend stayed for 2 nights and was very satisfied. Thank you- another one high on my list.

When we parked outside, we were informed that the pub was closed for renovation until a certain time in March! So we had to eat somewhere else. Bizarr when we booked online!

Booked the table for Sunday lunch, not necessary as place was very quiet, unfortunately though service left a lot to be desired, we seemed to wait ages. When order came, however the food was good. Eat here regularly and generally everything is ok, perhaps a hiccup on a Sunday. Won’t stop me returning.

The food was absolutely spectacular. I personally chose the steak and ale pie and it was mouth wateringly good! I would definitely choose it again... There was extensive choice on the menu and i'll definitely return as there are other dishes I would love to try! Staff couldn't be more polite, friendly and helpful I would definitely recommend! Thank you

We were first shown to a table that wasn't suitable for six people due to the leg room. When I asked for us to be moved I was told there were a lot of bookings not sure if that meant we couldn't be moved. I explained WE were a booking and were then moved to a table set for six in the conservatory. Apart from this hiccup, everything went smoothly. Service good and staff very personable, no fault with the food. Nice that the conservatory is relatively music free.

Not the place to go if your vegetarian, I would expect more choice . There was some confusion over my order and we ended up eating our main course separately . I ordered a Sunday lunch without the meat as there was no vegetarian option but after 3 attempts of trying to order this I ended up with vegetables and a few new potatoes , after my other half had finished his main Course . The quality of the food was excellent and I was given a discount for the confusion so not all bad , but in other establishments I have enjoyed some very tasty meat free roast dinners unfortunately this wasn’t one .

We ate here on Sunday 28th July and chose off the Sunday Lunch menu. We had visited the Birley Arms about 4 weeks previously and I would say that experience was a lot better with better service plus the Sunday Lunch menu was more extensive and included Lamb Loin which was excellent. On our recent visit we found that the choice of the Sunday Lunch menu was limited, on our previous visit the waitress had advised that we could choice 2 or 3 courses off the Sunday and Al A Carte menus, the waiter didn't discuss the menu options with us this time. All that said the food was excellent and we will certainly be vising again very soon.
